00:00 Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're counting down our picks for the most exciting and helpful
00:07 pieces of technology that are expected to be released in 2024.
00:18 Let's be honest, it's been a while since the iPad received a major innovation.
00:21 Well, that could all be changing soon, as Apple aims to integrate OLED screens into
00:26 their iconic handhelds.
00:28 OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode, and it results in a gorgeous picture with
00:33 deep blacks, vivid colours, fantastic contrast and crystal clear imagery.
00:38 So why the better picture?
00:39 Well, it's because each pixel can be shut off.
00:42 When there's no current flowing, the pixel appears completely black.
00:47 This extremely high contrast between light and dark makes for a lovely image, and we
00:52 found beats the picture quality on sets that use backlight.
00:55 If you value a good picture, then OLED is an absolute must.
00:59 That said, these screens are quite expensive, so expect these iPads to come with a hefty
01:04 price tag.
01:05 Rumour has it, these iPads have already entered production, and they should be released sometime
01:10 in the second quarter.
01:15 As unveiled at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show, LG is making a robot that is basically
01:20 just a smaller version of that thing in "Rocky IV".
01:23 With two legs that allow it to walk around, the robot will help manage the home and assist
01:27 in its owner's needs.
01:29 Its functions are numerous, like reporting on the air quality, identifying if any windows
01:33 or lights were left on, and controlling smart appliances.
01:43 Not impressed?
01:44 The artificial intelligence inside the robot can also read your facial expressions and
01:49 vocal inflections to gauge your mood and will play suitable music.
01:53 It's a companion that will make your life just a little bit easier, and honestly, who
02:00 wouldn't want that?
02:06 The future of construction is intriguing.
02:08 Before long, we may have entire worksites completely barren of human beings, populated
02:13 by vehicles operating entirely by themselves.
02:17 Maybe it's a long way off, but it's the vision that HD Hyundai wished to convey at
02:22 CES 2024.
02:24 They unveiled a simulator that controlled a wheel loader 3,000 kilometres away, signifying
02:29 a future in which workers don't have to be on site.
02:32 Even more impressive is the driverless excavator that runs on electricity.
02:36 It's proof that we are one step closer to autonomous worksites.
02:43 People have been clamouring for the first truly great virtual reality headset.
02:47 Many have been released in recent years, but they have mostly proven to be niche products
02:51 that haven't truly taken off in the wider cultural sphere.
02:55 Meta hopes to change that with Ventura, an accessible headset with a very attractive
02:59 price point.
03:00 According to Vice President for VR, Mark Rabkin, the aim is to "pack the biggest punch we
03:05 can at the most attractive price point in the VR consumer market".
03:09 The device will reportedly cost just $200, and is slated for release sometime in 2024.
03:17 Set to launch at CES 2024, the Gyro Glove is meant for those who suffer from hand tremors,
03:23 which is often a symptom of Parkinson's disease.
03:35 An honoree of CES' Innovation Awards, the glove uses special technology that stabilises
03:40 the tremors and gives hand function back to its wearer.
03:47 It's a fantastic device, but it comes with the exorbitant price tag of nearly $6,000.
03:55 However, Gyro Gear is currently in talks with insurance providers, so hopefully the device
04:00 becomes more affordable in the coming years.
04:22 After the massive disappointment that was the Wii U, Nintendo came back stronger than
04:26 ever with the Switch.
04:35 The device earned widespread acclaim, and is currently the third best-selling console
04:38 of all time, with over 130 million units sold.
04:42 It's no surprise then, that Nintendo hopes to capitalise on this success, and we won't
04:46 have to wait much longer for the follow-up.
04:48 Rumours began spreading in July 2023 that a new console was on the way, as development
04:54 kits were reportedly being sent to developers.
04:57 This new console will be much more powerful than the original Switch, allowing for playback
05:01 at 4K 60fps.
05:03 The release date is still unconfirmed, but many insiders believe it could be late 2024.
05:12 Mercedes-Benz is pushing the automotive world forward with, what else, artificial intelligence.
05:18 The popular car company has developed a brand new operating system called MBUX, which according
05:23 to Chief Technology Officer Markus Schaefer, will provide the hyper-personalised Mercedes-Benz
05:28 user experience.
05:45 These cars already have an in-car voice assistant, but this AI upgrade aims to make the experience
05:50 more fluid and intuitive.
05:53 Or in the company's own words, more "human-like".
06:06 This includes natural dialogue, smoother interactions, and even various personality traits and speaking
06:12 styles.
06:13 Cars are often personified, but this is taking that concept to the next level.
06:28 Televisions have come a long way.
06:29 Black and white, those bulky things in the 80s, plasma, LED, 3D, 4K, OLED.
06:35 There has certainly been no shortage of innovation throughout the years.
06:38 Well, there's yet another jump coming.
06:40 At CES 2024, both Samsung and LG unveiled transparent TVs, with Samsung using micro-LEDs
06:48 and LG going with OLED.
07:03 Both TVs will be transparent, meaning things like weather reports will be floating in mid-air.
07:08 Should you want to watch a movie, the TVs will switch modes and become a more conventional
07:13 screen without the see-through capabilities.
07:16 The transparency allows you to get creative with your display, like placing it in front
07:20 of a window without obstructing your view.
07:40 The 2020s saw the popularisation of foldable phones, but we're already passing that and
07:46 moving onto rollable phones.
07:48 Many brands are currently working on this tech, with the front-runner being Motorola,
07:52 which unveiled a working prototype at Mobile World Congress in 2023.
07:57 These devices are truly eye-catching, and they contain a unique way of making the screen
08:01 larger without physically expanding the size of the phone.
08:05 The Chinese companies Vivo and Transient plan to release their first rollable phones in
08:09 late 2024, signalling a tectonic shift in the smartphone industry.
08:15 Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honourable mentions.
08:18 Capella, an app that can allegedly translate a baby's cries.
08:32 Tesla
08:58 Model 3 refresh.
09:00 The Model 3 has been revamped with some attractive upgrades.
09:09 The Elder Care robot is getting an AI upgrade that allows it to paint and hold conversations.
09:39 Apple Vision Pro.
09:46 Set to launch on February 2nd, the Apple Vision Pro is a mixed-reality headset that will integrate
09:51 digital media and virtual displays with the real world.
09:54 The Vision's apps can be controlled through a variety of means, including eye-tracking
09:59 and the aforementioned hand gestures.
10:14 This will be the first major Apple invention in nearly ten years, with 2015's Apple Watch
10:19 being its last original product launch.
10:22 But if you want to get your hands, or head on it, it won't come cheap.
10:26 For when the Apple Vision Pro will launch, it will cost $3,500.
10:31 So that's our list.
