00:00 Okay so everything that we're looking at today is designed around being affordable
00:05 home security solutions. Now holding a stick in my hand which seems really strange but
00:10 when you have a swampy air conditioner and you need to leave the windows cracked a bit and you're
00:15 on a sliding sliding windows you can take a piece of dowel which is a bit shorter than the window
00:21 so that it can stay propped open a little bit and you can pop that into the window track itself.
00:28 Now they're a bit hard to get out if your fingers have arthritis or you've got cut fingers like I do
00:33 so popping a little bit of duct tape on it so that you can simply lift it out when you want to open
00:38 it is a really good idea. So this is a great simple safety solution for overnight when you
00:42 want to leave some ventilation in the house. Other products available obviously that we encourage
00:49 are things like sensor lights. So these are solar sensor lights they're easy to install.
00:54 You can install them they can hang on a nail they can hang on screws so into concrete into fibro
00:59 anything like that. They're sensor lights they charge very well they do a great projection
01:08 range and they're affordable as well. Other simple solutions so security for your screen doors
01:17 so that the screen can't be cut and they can't undo the lock so it's simply installed using
01:22 some screws and we're more than happy to try and assist people if they need assistance in relation
01:27 to that. But go to your home safety go to your home hardware stores speak to the people that
01:33 work there and they will have solutions for you and they will come up with something and it doesn't
01:38 need to break the bank. Home security systems such as CCTV are amazing you know they have to have
01:45 wi-fi to run off it but then other simple solutions such as little motion detectors here which are
01:50 affordable for under $15 on the back door that you don't use all the time but if the back door is
01:55 open it goes off. And then there's a good old-fashioned big brass bell if you're not using
02:01 that door all the time don't put it on the outside you might drive the neighbors crazy with the wind
02:06 but if you put it on the inside and the door's open the bell will alert you that someone's coming
02:09 so there's nice affordable safety solutions there. Back gates or side gates ensuring that they're
02:17 locked so that people can't get through easily and lock that gate and put a nice little sensor
02:22 light up the top so if someone does come up to it then you're able to identify it. But one of the
02:28 reasons that we're out here today is that we're obviously looking at a building which is similar
02:33 to people's homes you can see here that they have what's called natural surveillance so natural
02:40 surveillance is where that the vegetation is away from from places where they can get entry to it
02:47 so that people driving past can see what's going on so if they see someone lurking around in the
02:52 middle of the night and they think that's odd they can ring the police. It also assists with CCTV so
02:57 that if you see people on the cameras they're not hidden by vegetation so removing any unnecessary
03:03 vegetation around entrance points and exit points is very vital. The other thing is too is that
03:10 simple solutions such as the color of paint so when you drive past a school you'll see that the
03:15 school fences are painted black and you drive past and you see that you can see directly into it
03:20 because the black allows you to have natural surveillance it's a trick with the mind but if
03:25 you were to paint that fence white you wouldn't be able to see through it so installing painting
03:29 your fence black if you've got a picket fence can also improve the natural surveillance of your
03:33 property. There's a lot of really simple easy solutions that you can do that we encourage you
03:40 to do obviously locking your doors is the main priority but I do understand that there is
03:45 like I said swampy air conditioners need to have a little bit of airflow floating around to be able
03:53 to work so something as simple as a piece of dowel in the window track is really effective
03:58 and then even if you've got windows that go up and down making sure that it's nice and tight in there
04:04 so that you can hold it up but there's also different types of fly screens that you can
04:11 get installed nice and easily I'm sure the home hardware stores will assist you in figuring out
04:16 that and how to do that but I do know that all the all the security and home hardware stores around
04:23 town are so completely on board they're really they have families they have properties and they
04:31 and they want to make sure that everybody's safe as well, so we're going in and speaking to those teams.
