General strike rally for public sector workers in Magherafelt

Several hundred striking public sector workers staged a protest rally in Magherafelt town centre to demand better pay and conditions

00:00 In the last 13 years, 38% of people, their pay has been eroded by 38%.

00:10 The question is exactly where are we now?

00:13 Particularly in the health service and in education, that have now seen their pay eroded by over 20%.

00:20 But it was in the last two years in particular that we have seen the biggest erosion of those pay.

00:28 This is about a pay demand in particular.

00:33 The Northern Ireland Assembly is not going to resume at any time soon.

00:38 So the pressure of this strike is now to put the pressure on the Secretary of State, Heaton Harris, to come and resolve.

00:47 And it's not just getting pay for the last two years and next year, but also the shortfall that has taken place in pay over the last 10 years.
