00:00 John Wertheim here. Some early day dispatches from the 2024 Australian Open. Pretty quiet so far,
00:06 which is actually a disguised blessing. It means the seeds and the stars are remaining in the draw
00:11 and they'll be around for the latter rounds. Mostly that includes Novak Djokovic going for
00:15 his 11th title at the Australian Open. He's lost sets in his first two matches but has survived
00:21 in advance. Not much other upsets on the men's side. Yannick Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz still in
00:28 the draw. So are a lot of Americans including Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton. Both of them among
00:33 the top 16 seeds on the women's side. One big upset mostly in the scoreline. Mira Andreeva,
00:38 16 year old from Russia, beat Anstro Burr, the Tunisian player who reached the Wimbledon finals
00:43 last summer and the summer before. 16 years old and Andreeva won that match. That's a minor upset.
00:48 The scoreline was the major one. 6-0-6-2. The Wimbledon champ from last year. She is out.
00:55 Marketa Vondrosova but that's not a huge upset given her up and down career. Pretty calm weather,
01:01 pretty calm court conditions and again this bodes well for good action in the latter rounds.
