00:00 I'm Josh Hutcherson and this is the Wired Autocomplete Interview.
00:03 [music]
00:06 Did I do something? Probably.
00:08 [music]
00:11 What is Josh Hutcherson known for?
00:14 I'm known for making movies and now I'm a meme.
00:17 I'm happy about that but I'm excited to get back to being known for movies as well.
00:21 How did Josh Hutcherson become an actor?
00:23 I was a young boy, a ripe young age of nine years old.
00:28 I got out a phone book, which many of you might not be familiar with.
00:31 I called an agency in Cincinnati and said that I wanted to be an actor
00:35 and they were like, "Let's talk to your parents."
00:37 And I was like, "Well, they're at work."
00:38 Then my parents were like, "This kid will not stop."
00:41 And they got behind me and then we drove to California,
00:44 stayed in a motel and started making movies.
00:47 Josh Hutcherson, new movie.
00:50 Yeah, I have The Beekeeper, which is coming out now, January 12th.
00:54 This guy, Derek, that I play in Beekeeper is completely unhinged.
00:58 He's a crypto bro, multi-billionaire, privileged dickhead, if I may say.
01:04 So just kind of getting to play something that out there and wild was a lot of fun.
01:08 Where has Josh Hutcherson been?
01:12 I've been taking it easy.
01:14 I've recharged my batteries, fallen in love again with being on set and working hard.
01:18 And you're not gonna have to ask this one.
01:19 What Josh Hutcherson character are you?
01:23 I'm not Derek Danforth from The Beekeeper.
01:26 I'm not PETA because I don't have blonde hair anymore.
01:30 I might be closest to Mike from Five Nights at Freddy's in a way.
01:35 He's from a smaller town, salt of the earth kind of guy.
01:39 I connect with that kid.
01:40 Josh Hutcherson, hometown.
01:44 I am from Union, Kentucky.
01:46 It's a lovely place.
01:47 When I drink bourbon, that's when the Kentucky really comes out.
01:50 The accent starts to slip and then all of a sudden it's like, "Rubber, rubber."
01:54 And then it just all goes downhill.
01:56 Josh Hutcherson, mullet.
01:58 I would love to rock a mullet.
02:00 My guy who cuts my hair, he's always like, "Do you want to do the mullet thing?"
02:03 And I'm always like, "Yeah, but I'm scared."
02:05 Is this a sign?
02:06 I mean, this is a sign, but like, maybe I should go for it.
02:09 Josh Hutcherson, siblings.
02:11 Yes, I have my little brother, Connor.
02:14 He's the best.
02:14 We're super close.
02:15 Our parents always made it very important that like the family had to be together.
02:20 Like maximum, like two weeks apart, three weeks apart kind of thing.
02:23 And whatever film that I was making, we would have it in my contract as like an 11-year-old
02:27 that they would get extra plane tickets for my dad and brother to be able to come out
02:31 and see us.
02:31 We've maintained a very, very good relationship over the years.
02:34 Is Josh Hutcherson a Libra?
02:37 Got it tattooed in case I forget.
02:39 I was 16 when I got this tattoo.
02:41 I'm actually a double Libra.
02:42 Libra main one and Libra rising.
02:46 So I'm very in search of the balance.
02:48 So they say I'm happy with it.
02:51 Is Josh Hutcherson fluent in Spanish?
02:54 A ver.
02:55 Creo que fluent para mi es un poco demasiado, pero a la vez yo creo que yo puedo más o
03:00 menos básicamente explicar lo que quiero y básicamente entiendo todo.
03:04 So basically.
03:06 Chao.
03:07 Why Josh Hutcherson became a meme?
03:11 I know my girlfriend, like, I guess she posted something on Instagram and then the comments
03:16 just became people like with this meme and this meme and looked into it and she's like,
03:21 "Maybe there's some meme of you from 2014 whistle video."
03:26 And I was like, "I don't know what this is."
03:28 And then I found out and it's like a thing.
03:31 Why was Josh Hutcherson dancing?
03:34 Because I was dancing.
03:35 Why aren't you dancing?
03:36 Why was anybody ever dancing?
03:37 Because dancing is great.
03:38 Josh Hutcherson, Ultraman.
03:41 I dubbed this really cool show for Netflix called Ultraman.
03:44 It's like a Japanese anime type show and they came to me to do a season of this like a few
03:49 years ago, but it's a really cool show.
03:51 And then they actually had me come back and do another season of it and hopefully more
03:54 because they had the original in Japanese.
03:56 They've done a translation and you're trying to match basically the syllables in the translation,
04:01 but it doesn't always fit.
04:02 So it's like a fun creative challenge of like, how can I rewrite this line to fit with the
04:07 syllables and match what the character is trying to say?
04:10 How old was Josh Hutcherson in Bridge to, I'm going to guess it's going to say Terabithia.
04:17 Terabithia.
04:18 I think I was 12.
04:21 I guess I have a little bit of a knack for finding like beloved books and then bringing
04:24 them to life because Bridge to Terabithia was like a required reading book in many schools.
04:28 And so I think that it definitely was a great sort of bridge to like the rest of my younger
04:35 career.
04:35 Can Josh Hutcherson draw?
04:39 I can't.
04:40 I can do like the early 2000s S thing because I used to write my name that way with J-O-S-H.
04:45 Is Josh Hutcherson real?
04:50 Yeah, I'm real.
04:51 We're all real.
04:52 Is Josh Hutcherson taken?
04:56 I have a girlfriend, yes, but like I'm me and I'm here for the world.
05:02 Is Josh Hutcherson fit?
05:04 I can run a fair distance and I've been on like a new health kick lately.
05:09 But overall, I'd say I'm fit.
05:10 Did Josh Hutcherson audition for Spider-Man?
05:17 Yeah, I did.
05:18 The Andrew Garfield version.
05:19 One of my friends who had been my stunt double for a few movies, he and I went down to this
05:23 like stunt training gym called 8711 and we decided to shoot me doing some Spider-Man
05:28 stunts.
05:29 I didn't get it, but the crazy thing is like I think a month after that, I got cast in
05:33 Hunger Games.
05:34 Does Josh Hutcherson have tattoos?
05:38 One here, one here, a huge one on my back that I forget about because I never see it.
05:43 And then when I see it in a picture, I'm like, "Oh, Jesus, that's so big and colorful.
05:48 Why?"
05:49 I don't know, man.
05:50 I just went through a phase where I thought I was kind of like maybe a pirate or something.
05:54 And so I just would go and get these like Sailor Jerry massive anchors and boats and
05:59 stuff.
05:59 And regret's not the right word because they remind me of who I was.
06:04 But it also, when I sit down and have to do like an extra two hours of makeup to cover
06:09 these tattoos, it's like I don't think it's worth it.
06:12 Does Josh Hutcherson sing?
06:14 No, I do not sing.
06:16 One of my biggest, this is a regret, is that I never like learned music or singing or any
06:23 kind of lessons like that.
06:25 And they say it's like never too late to learn something.
06:27 I feel that like learning instruments and stuff I can maybe do, but singing, my voice
06:32 doesn't listen to what the note needs to be.
06:34 Does Josh Hutcherson still play baseball?
06:38 Well, there's a thing that us older people do.
06:40 It's called softball.
06:41 And it's similar, but it's way less risky.
06:44 The ball is large and soft.
06:46 And I do play some softball from time to time with a bunch of dads like in Echo Park.
06:51 And it's very chill.
06:54 But I did actually get a softball injury a few months back.
06:58 And I couldn't run for like two weeks.
07:00 And I was like, this is where I'm at.
07:03 Who does Josh Hutcherson play in Hunger Games?
07:08 Peter Mellark in the Hunger Games.
07:10 I always say it was kind of like my college experience because I didn't go to college.
07:13 It's a weird university.
07:14 It was a time of my life.
07:16 We were all over the world.
07:18 Me, Jen, Liam, Woody, Jenna all had such like a great tight group of like a little family.
07:24 It was the best, man.
07:25 I miss it.
07:25 I miss it dearly.
07:26 It was a lot of fun.
07:28 Who does Josh Hutcherson play in FNAF?
07:31 That's Five Nights at Freddy's for those who don't know.
07:33 I play Mike Schmidt and I am the night guard.
07:36 And if you're familiar with the game, you know that that is kind of the character that
07:39 you're playing.
07:39 I have no patience when it comes to video games.
07:41 So if I'm like, especially in the first iteration of the game, if I'm sitting there, I just
07:45 I need to move and do stuff and I just kept dying.
07:47 So I'm just going to live it out in the movies and let you guys keep beating the games.
07:52 Does Josh Hutcherson know the FNAF lore?
07:56 Piper Rubio, who plays my little sister in Five Nights, she is hardcore fanatic.
08:00 And last time I saw her, she gave me like a two hour breakdown of like the lore of every
08:06 game with the characters who come in and they go and this character is there because of
08:09 this and that.
08:10 It was a lot to retain and I didn't retain it.
08:13 So I'm not super familiar with the lore, which means I'm very excited to read the next script
08:17 and see where they take it.
08:19 When did Josh Hutcherson host SNL?
08:22 I've never done theater or like live performances of any sort.
08:26 So my first ever like live audience performance was hosting Saturday Night Live.
08:30 It was a lot of fun and just how hard they work and their process is absolutely mind
08:36 blowing.
08:36 One of the things that messed me up the most is they were like, whatever you do, do not
08:40 try to memorize anything.
08:41 That's like what I do.
08:42 I memorize.
08:43 And then they're like, no, because even after you do the first live run through, they're
08:47 going to change the jokes.
08:48 It's got to be on your feet, on your feet and just go for it.
08:52 I would happily do it again.
08:53 Well, those are all the boards.
08:55 Google is a weird place.
08:57 You guys have a lot of interesting minds out there.
08:59 Yeah, it's been fun.
