00:04 >> Education is such an important part of a child's growth,
00:08 but education involves much more than just the basic academic subjects.
00:14 I think that the arts are not only a fun thing for
00:19 children and a creative thing for children,
00:22 but they're an essential thing for kids.
00:25 It's when they find out who they are and what they can do,
00:29 what they're capable of,
00:30 and I'm absolutely convinced that the one thing strengthens the other.
00:36 The arts give young people all sorts of tools to move on in life,
00:42 even in the other areas of academia.
00:44 They teach them discipline and hard work,
00:48 and patience, and collaboration,
00:50 and cooperation, and civility.
00:53 They give young people an early sense of empathy.
00:57 >> What's the name of the song about bopping?
01:00 >> Everybody's Bopping.
01:00 >> Everybody's Bopping.
01:01 >> Yes.
01:01 >> If I were just to ask you to do that,
01:03 would you be able to launch right into it now or have you forgot?
01:06 >> Right here.
01:06 >> Us?
01:07 >> Yes.
01:07 >> Yeah.

01:17 >> See if we can find a way to show what it's like when
01:21 a great teacher and an eager student in the arts make a discovery together,
01:27 and I decided the best way to put on a show is to put myself into that transaction,
01:32 to be a student again,
01:33 to be a kid again,
01:34 a big reckless experiment.
01:37 You see why I wanted to join them?
01:40 I am going to be so terrible at this.
01:42 Hi, everybody. I'm John Lithgow.
01:45 Come along and watch me go back to school, printmaking,
01:49 ceramics, vocal jazz ensemble, and dance,
01:53 and celebrate arts in education with a bunch of incredible kids.
01:58 It's called Art Happens Here.
