The Miami Hurricanes have added former FSU running back Rodney Hill as a preferred walkon.
Transcript
00:00 The Miami Hurricanes just made an interesting pickup through the transfer portal.
00:04 Rodney Hill, who's a former Florida State Seminoles running back, is taking his talents
00:09 down to the 305.
00:10 Now I'm not going to act like this is a game-changing or program-changing player.
00:16 He does come at a position that's pretty loaded on paper, but first important thing to note
00:21 is according to Kane's Insight, Rodney Hill will not be taking up one of those precious
00:28 85 scholarships that we talk about.
00:30 This looks to be a preferred walk-on.
00:32 He's coming in as a PWO.
00:35 Rodney Hill did put up some numbers as an all-purpose back the last two seasons with
00:40 the Florida State Seminoles.
00:41 He had actually already announced earlier in the cycle that he was transferring from
00:47 Florida State to FAMU, was planning on staying in the city of Tallahassee, but he decided
00:53 to come down to Miami.
00:54 Now this was billed throughout today, Saturday, as there may be a surprise coming.
01:00 Now that was built that way because Hill is really not someone we've talked a whole lot
01:06 about, not someone we've had conversations about, and it's going to be interesting to
01:09 see what kind of a role he's going to play at the University of Miami because again,
01:14 Miami has a lot of bodies in the running back room.
01:17 Mark Fletcher returning, Henry Parrish, A.J.
01:20 Allen, Chris Johnson, who didn't play much this past season, is probably going to be
01:24 in line for more playing time in 2024.
01:27 You have Jordan Lyle and Chris Wheatley Humphrey who are coming in as true freshmen.
01:31 And then I also haven't forgotten about Trevante Citizen.
01:34 Now Trevante Citizen hasn't played at this point due to that serious knee injury that
01:38 he suffered back in 2022.
01:41 Hopefully he's in line to get some more playing time.
01:44 So what kind of a role will Rodney Hill play?
01:47 I think that the amount of playing time he gets, obviously factors will be how much does
01:52 he stand out in practice and how healthy does the rest of the running back room stay?
01:56 Because something we have learned the last couple of years at Miami is even when you
02:01 think you have a super deep and stacked running back room, injuries are bound to happen, especially
02:07 at that position.
02:09 And Miami believes that Rodney Hill can be reliable as an all-purpose back.
02:14 And he's also got good hands out of the backfield.
02:16 Caught five passes for 83 yards with the Seminoles in 2023.
02:21 He had 50 carries for 190 yards and scored a touchdown this past year.
02:26 Averaged 3.8 yards per carry in his second year.
02:29 Back in his first year in 2022, he averaged five yards per carry.
02:32 Had 144 yards and a touchdown his first season at Florida State.
02:37 And Gabby Arrutia from Inside the U noted, and yeah, this is worth pointing out, he's
02:41 certainly going to have the Florida State game circled on his calendar when Miami takes
02:46 on the Seminoles coming up.
02:47 We don't have the exact date for that one yet, but at some point in the 2024 season,
02:52 that's going to be a big one for Rodney Hill.
02:54 So you guys let me know what you think.
02:55 Is he going to play a role on the team this year?
02:58 Not taking up a scholarship, a depth piece, and an experienced one.
03:02 Hill, by the way, coming out of high school, he's from the state of Georgia, from Bullock
03:07 Academy in Statesboro, Georgia.
03:09 He was a three-star recruit coming out of high school, obviously offered by Florida
03:14 State.
03:15 He also had an offer from Texas A&M.
03:17 So now he finds his way to the Miami Hurricanes.
03:19 So we'll keep you guys up to date with everything that happens.
03:22 Rodney Hill, welcome to the U.
03:26 I'm losing my voice.
03:29 This is my second episode of the day, so I don't have a whole lot of voice.
