Perth chef Chris Anca's 'social enterprise' kitchen supporting disadvantaged people through food

A business in Perth's south is flourishing by providing employment to the disadvantaged and raising money for aid organisations in conflict zones including Ukraine and Gaza. It's part of a push for businesses to focus on doing good and delivering outcomes for the community, rather than shareholders.

00:26 This group are learning to cook Palestinian food.
00:28 As a social enterprise, the revenue created through Chris's food manufacturing business
00:35 is donated to many different social causes.
00:38 If every business in the world would choose to do business a little bit differently, collectively
00:44 we would have a huge impact.
00:46 Chris's kitchen also sells baked goods to hundreds of cafes and restaurants around the
00:50 state.
00:51 But the staff have to meet one main criteria.
00:54 They must be facing disadvantage.
00:57 It's a spirit of belonging that they haven't experienced and it's a spirit of acceptance
01:03 and support and a feeling of self-worth and being valued for what they bring to the job.
01:12 Chetna was employed three years ago after a challenging move to Perth from India.
01:17 When I started working here, from that time until now, I am financially very strong.
01:25 So before that I don't have finances, I don't have savings.
01:28 Other employees include people living with disability and new migrants.
01:33 Make me like teach my life more confidence, more financial and everything.
01:41 Growing up in Romania, Chris says she understands oppression and that influenced who she's become.
01:47 Food brings people together anyway and when you put a purpose to the food, it brings people
01:52 together on a completely new level.
01:55 According to this chef, she's just offering other Australians a chance at a fair go.
