CinemaBlend's Law Sharma enters the danger zone courtesy of Sky Combat Ace. We got to take control of an Extra 330 for a simulated dogfight, felt G-forces as we did aerial maneuvers, and even got to do a low-level bombing run, just like Tom Cruise and co. do in the movie.

00:02 Everyone here is the best there is.
00:06 Who the hell are they going to get to teach us?
00:08 Good morning, aviators.
00:14 This is your captain speaking.
00:15 Good morning, aviators.
00:24 My name is Law with Cinema Blend,
00:26 and we are finally done waiting.
00:28 "Top Gun Maverick" is coming out on home entertainment
00:31 and digital, and now is the time to celebrate.
00:33 So we're going to get in one of these planes,
00:35 and they're going to let me fly the thing, which does not
00:37 sound safe, but it will be.
00:39 Wish me luck.
00:40 I hope my mustache doesn't fall off.
00:41 Talk to me, goose.
00:42 We're going to be flying the world's most advanced
00:47 aerobatic stunt planes, the exact planes
00:49 that the cast of "Top Gun Maverick"
00:50 actually flew to practice for their roles in the movie.
00:54 So no joke, these airplanes are actually more
00:56 maneuverable than fighter jets.
00:57 The profile they're doing today,
00:58 you can't do anywhere else in the world
01:00 outside of the US military.
01:02 Here we go.
01:03 In 3, 2, 1.
01:08 On "Top Gun Maverick," they had a rigorous training program.
01:11 And credit to Tom Cruise and all the actors
01:13 that put in hard work to make it very believable.
01:16 7, Bravo 5, clear for takeoff.
01:17 Approach and approve.
01:18 Ace to flight.
01:19 All right.
01:20 You ready to go, boss?
01:20 Let's do it.
01:21 Wow.
01:26 Look at that.
01:27 That's so cool.
01:29 All right, buddy.
01:29 You ready to go upside down?
01:32 Let's go.
01:35 Wow.
01:36 The X-Jet 330 is capable of plus or minus 10 Gs.
01:39 They will definitely feel more G-force
01:40 than they could feel on a roller coaster or anything
01:42 they've ever done before.
01:43 All right, get ready.
01:44 3, 2, 1, and pull.
01:47 All right, 3, 2, 1, pull.
01:49 Woo!
01:50 Woo!
01:53 Thanks to Tom, all the actors are becoming
01:55 accustomed to the G-forces by all the training
01:58 that they're doing.
01:59 It is aggressive.
02:00 You can't act out the distortion in the face.
02:02 They're pulling 7 and 1/2 H-es.
02:05 That's 1,600 pounds of force.
02:08 I'm so proud of them and what they've done.
02:11 And it is heavy duty.
02:14 All right.
02:15 I'm OK.
02:15 So where are all the rings that we have to fly through?
02:24 This is a "Sonica" movie.
02:26 Andross is waiting for us somewhere.
02:28 Yeah, exactly.
02:31 One way ticket to the danger zone.
02:32 Let's go, Kenny Loggins.
02:35 All right, check out on the right.
02:37 Whoa.
02:38 Holy moly.
02:42 I have to say, as a pilot, I'm super impressed with Tom Cruise.
02:45 I mean, a lot of people, it's pretty well known
02:46 that he does his own stunts.
02:47 But he even goes further than that.
02:49 I mean, learning to fly these types of planes,
02:51 and he flies helicopters as well.
02:53 And I've seen some of the maneuvers that he's done.
02:55 That's not for a casual tourist.
02:57 So he's obviously put a lot of training and time in.
02:59 He's a busy guy.
03:00 But he didn't waste any time actually learning
03:02 to do a lot of stuff himself.
03:03 You just can't create this kind of experience
03:06 unless you shoot it live.
03:08 In order for us to accomplish this,
03:10 we have the greatest fighter pilots
03:12 in the world working with us.
03:15 For the aerial dogfighting, of course,
03:16 that's inherently a competitive experience.
03:19 So if you want to win, you're going to have to be aggressive.
03:22 Going to be off our left.
03:23 I'm going to want you to bank towards him like this.
03:25 And then pull.
03:26 Turn in.
03:27 Left to left.
03:27 Fights on, fights on.
03:28 Round one.
03:29 Here we go.
03:29 Left to right.
03:30 All right, so he's going to pass off our left wing.
03:33 OK.
03:33 You see him out there?
03:34 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:35 Now just wait.
03:36 Here we go.
03:37 Three, two, one.
03:38 Turn and pull.
03:39 Good.
03:40 Pull.
03:40 Pull, pull, pull.
03:42 Good.
03:42 Pull the nose up.
03:43 Pull, pull.
03:46 There we go.
03:47 Good.
03:48 Go to his tail.
03:48 Ease off.
03:49 Left to left.
03:50 Left to right.
03:51 All right.
03:52 Good, good.
03:52 Just wait.
03:53 Just wait.
03:53 OK.
03:53 This may be it.
03:54 All right, line him up.
03:55 Shoot him, shoot him, shoot him.
03:58 Woo, baby.
03:59 Five minutes.
04:00 Let's go.
04:02 Nightcrawler with a win.
04:03 Cocky little freak.
04:05 All righty.
04:06 Round two coming up.
04:07 Let's do it.
04:09 Good.
04:09 Turn and pull.
04:10 Turn and pull.
04:12 Uh-oh, here we go.
04:14 They're getting behind us.
04:15 Left to left.
04:16 Left to left.
04:18 Oh.
04:19 Too slow.
04:19 We're stalling.
04:20 Let the nose down.
04:21 Good, now start to pull.
04:23 OK.
04:24 Good.
04:24 Just wait.
04:25 Nice and easy.
04:26 Pull.
04:28 All right, back left, left, left, left, left.
04:30 Pull, pull.
04:31 Thousand to the floor.
04:36 All right, no lower, no lower.
04:38 Oh, ace twos with it.
04:40 We got it?
04:41 Yeah, you got it.
04:42 Oh, good shot, buddy.
04:44 Round three, and this is it.
04:46 OK, go ahead, pull.
04:48 Good.
04:48 Not too hard.
04:49 Just hold that.
04:51 All right, he's down off your left.
04:53 OK, going left.
04:54 See him?
04:55 Bye, bro.
04:56 All right.
04:56 Trying a little bit.
04:57 Take your time, take your time.
05:00 Oh, what a move.
05:02 Dude him.
05:04 Goal.
05:07 Woo.
05:07 Nicely done.
05:09 There we go.
05:10 All right, terminate.
05:12 All right, we're going to take a victory tumble.
05:14 All right, let's do it.
05:15 Do a barrel roll.
05:16 Do it again.
05:17 Oh, baby.
05:19 You missed him.
05:22 Here we go.
05:25 Let's get ready to tumble.
05:28 Oh.
05:30 Are you crazy?
05:32 Holy moly.
05:33 Coming on your left side.
05:39 Oh, boy.
05:41 Oh.
05:42 Whoa.
05:47 Oh, man.
05:48 Is that a right hand tumble?
05:49 Yeah, right to right.
05:50 Wow, this is nice, dude.
05:52 Heck yeah.
05:53 All right, we're going to come around this mountain.
05:55 After we find the target, we're going to do a big pull,
05:58 a basic maneuver out.
05:59 Gotcha.
06:00 We've got eyes on the target, visual.
06:02 Ladies arms.
06:04 Copy.
06:06 Ace 5, go 3.
06:07 Good ball, 5.
06:11 All right, get ready.
06:12 3, 2, 1, and pull.
06:15 All right, bring the heat, crew.
06:17 Woo.
06:18 Wow.
06:22 Good bombs.
06:24 Yeah.
06:25 Pretty cool, right?
06:26 That was amazing.
06:27 Yeah.
06:28 I don't think I've ever-- I mean, I can't even compare it
06:30 to anything I've ever done.
06:31 So there's actually an air museum on the field
06:33 off the right wing.
06:34 Oh, look at all that, yeah.
06:35 Yeah, so they've got a Tomcat there.
06:37 I was going to say, yeah.
06:39 From the movie.
06:40 Thank you.
06:41 Yep, absolutely.
06:42 Mr. Cruz, is that you?
06:43 Mr. Cruz.
06:44 Tom.
06:45 Tom.
06:46 I love your movies.
06:47 I absolutely.
06:49 Tomcat 2 might be the best one yet.
06:51 Oh, man, Maverick was so good.
06:53 Can't wait to have it on Blu-ray and digital.
06:56 Excellent job, gentlemen.
06:57 We're going to RTB, back to base.
06:59 That was insane.
07:10 Like, I'm going to remember that for the rest of my life.
07:12 All right, well done.
07:13 All right, well done, dude.
07:14 Let's get it.
07:15 Making it five, let's go.
07:16 Yeah.
07:17 Hey, you could be my wingman anytime.
07:19 Nah, you could be mine.
07:20 OK, yeah, let's go get it.
07:23 Come on.
07:24 Oh, jeez.
07:29 Having any fun yet?
