00:00 Hi, I'm Iona May and these are your latest Newcastle headlines.
00:04 Tempers continue to rise over the Department for Transport's failure to hand over the
00:08 £40m it has pledged for the refurbishment of the Tyne Bridge. The government has now
00:12 claimed that local authority officials did not submit all the required documentation
00:17 needed until last month. Yet, Newcastle City Council insists that the DFT has had their
00:22 final business case since July 2023.
00:25 Next, according to the GMB Union, 19 Newcastle pubs are at risk of closure as Stonegate owners
00:31 look to refinance debt. The pubs at risk include the Old Georgian, Flares, Pop World and Slug
00:37 and Lettuce.
00:39 Finally, Mary Glindon has confirmed that she has been chosen as the party's candidate
00:44 for the Newcastle East and Wall's End seat. Her existing North Tyneside constituency will
00:49 cease to exist under a new boundary change that comes into force at the next election.
