00:00 From 44th Street in Camelback, this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:05 And it all starts right now.
00:08 How's it sound?
00:12 I think it's like you hear the...
00:14 We're changing stuff in the studio today, guys.
00:16 Yeah, a lot of changing.
00:17 Changing it up for Monday.
00:18 That's right, it's Monday.
00:20 I know.
00:21 And it's, what's today, the 22nd already.
00:24 Yes.
00:25 So are we in the middle or are we over the middle of January?
00:27 We're over the middle, right?
00:28 Yeah, I think so.
00:29 Because there's 31 days in January, so 15 and a half would have been the middle.
00:33 There it is.
00:34 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:35 I'm Brad Perry.
00:36 And I'm Lexi Romano.
00:37 All right, today on the show, for the first time in decades, a white baby rhino was born
00:42 right here in Arizona at the Wildlife World Zoo Aquarium in Safari Park.
00:46 Wow.
00:47 Stop.
00:48 Wow.
00:49 Oh my goodness, so cute.
00:51 And we're going to meet him later in the show.
00:54 But look at that.
00:56 Wow.
00:57 They're incredibly big animals.
00:59 I think this is an animal that you don't think about on a regular basis, but they're very,
01:06 very big.
01:07 Have you ever been up close to one?
01:08 I haven't.
01:09 Oh, so when I worked in San Diego, we got to go back because they have a special VIP,
01:12 so when we do shows back there, you got to get close to them.
01:16 And even though they're in the gate, they're very big.
01:18 Yeah.
01:19 They're very big.
01:20 It's one of those things that you don't think about on a regular basis, and then when you
01:23 see these animals in real life, and they're just so imposing and so just giant.
01:29 And yeah, even just seeing this video right here, when you saw the lady standing next
01:33 to them, they make her look so little.
01:35 Yeah, big poop too.
01:36 I'll bet.
01:37 Big poop.
01:38 I think Arlo has big poop, but probably nothing compared to that.
01:43 All right, also, if you are a social media shopper, you know the kind that constantly
01:47 makes purchases on Facebook, TikTok shops, well, there are a few things you should be
01:52 out for, and we are telling you all about them.
01:54 I like that.
01:55 Plus, if you're a big snacker, we're going to get you some delicious snack ideas to try
02:00 this year to make sure you don't go over your diet.
02:03 Because I started another fast burn today.
02:06 Oh, you did?
02:07 So yes, I'm doing another fast burn diet with Sunfair.
02:10 I got to bring my weight down to 230.
02:12 All right.
02:13 But the doctor says I have to bring it down to 220.
02:16 Isn't that really thin for a big guy like me?
02:19 I don't know.
02:20 You're going to turn sideways and disappear.
02:21 Exactly.
02:22 We have to check about different weights and stuff.
02:24 I know.
02:25 We should double check that.
02:26 Yeah, but one thing we do have to check on, and we were talking about it, of course, is
02:29 shopping on social media.
02:30 Shopping on social media.
02:31 Okay, so yeah, for you, what's the verdict?
02:33 Do you do it?
02:34 Are you not a fan?
02:35 You know what?
02:36 I don't do it, but what I do is I will see something, and then I'll go to that website
02:41 of it.
02:42 And buy it there from the website.
02:43 Yeah, better than clicking the "Buy Now" on there.
02:46 Right.
02:47 So what about you?
02:48 I am not a fan of ... It just makes me feel a little sketched out, because I feel like,
02:54 "How do I know?"
02:56 And my husband recently purchased something on Facebook and got scammed, unfortunately.
03:01 Spent $35 on a baby nose sucker.
03:05 Never came.
03:06 Didn't get it.
03:07 Poor Arlo has been sniffly all week.
03:09 We have nothing to help.
03:11 And I know that when you do purchase some stuff on the TikTok or social media person's site,
03:16 they get credit for it and everything.
03:17 Yeah, like the affiliate links.
03:19 Right.
03:20 But Amazon, is that considered social media?
03:22 I don't know.
03:24 I think if you go from someone's social media to that Amazon page from their site, they
03:30 do get the credit for it.
03:31 I guess that would be considered shopping.
03:33 But there is a whole specific thing for TikTok, the TikTok Shop, that's a whole different
03:38 game.
03:39 I've never purchased anything from there.
03:40 I don't think I've ... Etsy or anything, I don't think I've ever ... I mean, I see stuff
03:43 and I'm like, "Oh, I should give it a try."
03:44 I'm so good about Etsy.
03:45 Yeah.
03:46 I'm so good about it.
03:47 I feel bad.
03:48 There's so many people who do the Etsy thing and I'm always like, "Oh yeah, right.
03:49 Totally forgot about that."
03:50 Legit ones, but not.
03:51 And then of course, the picture doesn't look like when you get it.
03:53 I know.
03:54 That's such a bummer.
03:55 Why is it always like that?
03:56 Have you seen, though, the trends where it's the people who, they post the picture of what
04:00 they thought they were getting and then what they actually get and it's so not even ... doesn't
04:04 even resemble?
04:05 Those are great.
04:06 Those are funny.
04:07 I love it.
04:08 Well, what's also fun and funny, and that is of course, trending, brought to you by
04:11 Gerber Injury Law, where we trial the internet, the social and media websites, our own backyard
04:15 to give you something to talk about around the water cooler or while you're shopping
04:18 online.
04:19 On TikTok.
04:20 Well, this is a really, really fun trending.
04:22 I love that we have this in here.
04:23 So, Reba McEntire is set to sing the national anthem for the Super Bowl this year.
04:27 This is so awesome.
04:28 So, country music superstar Reba McEntire is set to play a major role in this year's
04:32 Super Bowl.
04:33 The music legend has been slated to sing the national anthem prior to the big game.
04:36 She is a three-time Grammy winner and has made more than 30 studio albums that include
04:40 a variety of hits such as "Fancy," "Consider Me Gone," and "Does He Love You?"
04:45 I mean, come on.
04:46 She's a legend.
04:47 I love Reba McEntire.
04:48 I grew up listening to her, and I think she's going to crush it.
04:51 I think she's going to sound awesome.
04:52 And I hate to say, her big comeback has been the voice.
04:55 Like, she's on the voice.
04:56 True, yeah.
04:57 And she's taken over that and a lot of people have said that.
04:59 But you know what?
05:00 I will argue that she never left.
05:02 She didn't have a comeback because Girlfriend never left.
05:04 I mean, she's always been doing stuff.
05:06 She's done tours.
05:08 She had her own television show.
05:09 She's a mogul.
05:12 I argue she never left.
05:14 And she comes here for the big Muhammad Ali fight night event every year.
05:18 Oh, really?
05:19 So she's right at the billboard.
05:20 Oh, that's awesome.
05:21 Very cool.
05:22 All right, very quickly, if you're hungry and you're looking for a great meal, how about Costco?
05:26 Where this TikToker ate only Costco's $1.50 hot dog meals for a week.
05:31 Yes, Joey, also known as SirYacht on his TikTok, ate nothing but Costco $1.50 hot dog combo
05:37 for a week.
05:39 This sounds like my daughter because she loves these hot dogs.
05:41 So he did it for one week just recently and he ate 29 hot dog combos, which come out to a total of $43.50.
05:49 Wow.
05:50 Yeah.
05:51 He said, "I never really got sick of it."
05:53 He also said he had a goal of creating buzz on TikTok without breaking the bank.
05:57 Costco charges $1.50 for the combo since 1985.
06:01 And it's a hot dog and a Coke.
06:03 Or Pepsi.
06:04 Sorry, Pepsi.
06:05 Yeah, don't mix those two up.
06:06 No.
06:07 Well, sounds nice and tasty.
06:10 Yeah, I don't know about healthy, but sounds good.
06:13 All right, well, hey, after the break, Brad is talking to an expert on how to make your meal prep healthy and easy.
06:18 So stick around for that.
06:19 Maybe not Costco hot dogs, but something else.
06:21 No, no, not Costco hot dogs.
06:23 [music]
06:31 One favorite New Year's resolution is to eat healthier, but how do you keep up when you're on the go?
06:44 Well, I talked with super chef and recipe developer Julie Hartigan, who is dishing up some healthy recipes for meals and snacks.
06:53 [music]
06:55 Good morning, Chef Julie.
06:56 How are you?
06:57 Hey, I'm great.
06:58 How are you doing today?
06:59 I'm doing really good, you know, because we are talking to something that's so important.
07:03 That's, of course, meal prepping and snacks, you know, that we should consider for us while we're, you know, going on our health journeys, right?
07:10 Exactly.
07:11 Yep, yep.
07:12 So, all right, what are some of the ones that are important that we should be looking at preparing meals and doing snacks?
07:17 Honestly, the biggest thing is to have a plan and to pack your pantry with the right snacks.
07:22 I'm talking, like, a mix of healthy and convenient and family-friendly.
07:26 And don't forget, it's big game watching season, so you're going to want to have some, like, smart options on hand for that that are still fun, too.
07:33 Yeah, I like what you said.
07:34 It is the season.
07:35 So, let's talk about, of course, on the go packing major flavor and nutrition while we're, you know, getting out about getting the kids to school, of course, soccer, football, whatever is going on.
07:46 Exactly, all the things, right?
07:48 So, whether you're on the go or looking for a healthy midday snack, Chicken of the Sea is the one for me with their new wild-caught tuna and salmon packets.
07:56 They're convenient and flavorful and packed with nutrients to live a healthier life.
08:00 Each packet is 100 calories or less and delivers high-quality, responsibly sourced protein with certified tuna and salmon.
08:08 And there are so many fun, delicious ways you can enjoy these packets.
08:11 Like, I love making these little customizable walking salads where you can put different fun toppings on, or you can make this little twist on a charcuterie board or a bento box with all your favorite fruits and veggies.
08:22 Of course, with a seafood twist.
08:24 And Chicken of the Sea packets are available in classic and lightly seasoned varieties, so there's something for everybody.
08:29 Well, I love this because, you know, you open up the whole can and you don't use it all because you just want to use a little bit.
08:34 These little packets are perfect.
08:36 So, that is awesome.
08:38 Okay, breakfast is, of course, one of the most important meals, they say.
08:42 So, what breakfast hacks do you have for us?
08:45 Well, you know, as a mom and for all the moms out there who want to save some money at the supermarket, which is so important to me, my favorite grocery hack is Malto Meal cereal.
08:54 Malto Meal is available in 36 different flavors, like fruity dino bites and cinnamon toasters.
09:00 Malto Meal has delicious cereal for the whole family at a price that can't be beat.
09:04 And they've got this great resealable bag that helps keep the cereal fresh longer, and it makes it easy for kids to pour their own bowls, too.
09:11 It's available at retailers nationwide or maltomeal.com, but I love keeping some cereal in the pantry just for a fun, fast snack or an easy meal.
09:19 I like that.
09:20 All right.
09:21 Yummy, yummy, yummy.
09:22 All right.
09:23 You just said about the pantry.
09:24 Now, this is the thing.
09:25 People, of course, watch their time.
09:27 So, what's one of your things to make sure we keep the, of course, pantry stock and saving time in doing it?
09:34 Right.
09:35 Well, you need something that's easy, nutritious, and satisfying, and my favorite thing for that are Blue Diamond almonds.
09:41 You know, almonds are a really great heart-healthy snack as a source of daily fiber and healthy fats, which can improve cholesterol levels.
09:48 And with one serving packing six grams of protein and over 20 different flavors, Blue Diamond almonds are a great go-to snack for satisfying both hunger and your cravings.
09:59 And I've got two of my favorite flavors with me here today.
10:02 The Smokehouse is just one of their, like, all-time classics for that yummy, like, smoky barbecue kind of a flavor.
10:08 And Wasabi Soy Sauce, if you haven't tried those, you really have to.
10:12 They've got that yummy, spicy wasabi kick with a little sweet and salty finish.
10:16 I keep them in my handbag, in the car, on my desk at work, and I promise you put those out at a big game party and everybody's going to love them.
10:24 And they're the best little snacks to have, I'll tell you.
10:27 I got them in my pantry, so I can't go wrong.
10:30 Any other quick suggestions for us that you have on snacking?
10:34 Absolutely.
10:35 You know, we're all trying to eat more veggies, right?
10:36 And the problem is when you buy them at the supermarket and just throw them in the fridge and the bags they come in, when you're hungry, you're not going to bother cutting them up.
10:43 So I always advise people, take a few minutes, rinse them, chop them up, and put them in a platter, almost like you're throwing yourself a party, so you've got something easy to pull out.
10:52 And then make your own dips, too.
10:54 You can swap in Greek yogurt for the mayonnaise and the sour cream to lighten things up.
10:58 And now you've got yourself a whole little party platter to pull out any time hunger hits and you're staying healthy, too.
11:03 There it is.
11:04 Look at that, Chef Julie.
11:05 You've got us a little snacking ready for the big games, anything we've got going on.
11:10 Where can we find more information?
11:12 So for more, you can go to tipsontv.com.
11:15 Perfect.
11:16 Chef Julie, thanks for joining us this morning.
11:18 Thanks so much for having me.
11:19 [MUSIC PLAYING]
11:22 All right, coming up, shopping on social media has become more popular, and we are helping you stay safe while you do it.
11:29 The Mix returns after this.
11:31 [MUSIC PLAYING]
11:35 [MUSIC PLAYING]
11:38 How can you tell the must-haves from the junk when it comes to shopping on social media?
11:50 Well, Jacob Phan from Fantastic Media is here to give us some helpful tips.
11:54 Jacob, welcome.
11:55 Hi, thank you for having me.
11:56 Absolutely.
11:57 Thanks for being here.
11:58 So this is such a popular thing, right?
12:00 Something that we were saying earlier wasn't even really around 5, 10 years ago.
12:05 But shopping on social media has become the new trend.
12:08 So for those at home who maybe haven't quite done it yet, explain what it's like when you shop on social media.
12:14 I mean, it's unbelievable how time flies, right?
12:17 Back in the day, people were going in the store and things like that.
12:20 Now you can just go on your phone, go on Instagram, or go on TikTok, or even Facebook Marketplace,
12:25 and see a shirt or something that they like and buy it straight from there.
12:29 Which leads to issues, as we kind of talked about, where scamming and things like that.
12:34 So it's all about how do you not get scammed, or how do you find the product that you like,
12:38 depending on the size, the feel.
12:40 Because when you're in person, you can feel that.
12:42 You can test it out and stuff like that.
12:44 Online, it's really hard to do that.
12:46 So that leads to issues, for sure.
12:47 Absolutely.
12:48 And yes, so buying clothes online can always be scary.
12:51 Correct.
12:52 Shoes, things like that, because you're like, oh man, I can't touch it.
12:54 I can't try it on.
12:55 Yep.
12:56 But it does become kind of a bit of a gamble when you're buying online.
13:00 And especially for me, Brad and I were talking earlier, and I said, you know, recently my husband got scammed
13:05 where he bought something on Facebook, waited for it, and it just kind of never showed up.
13:09 Yeah.
13:10 So what are the percentages when people are dealing with things like that?
13:12 How often do you find that there are scams?
13:14 It happens a lot nowadays, especially even on Facebook and Instagram.
13:18 But there are ways to battle that.
13:21 And one of the biggest ways is looking at reviews or a verified reseller.
13:24 So one of the biggest things on Facebook and Instagram is you can check out if their reviews are going good and things like that,
13:30 but as well if they're verified.
13:31 And that's a big thing that you can test it out with.
13:34 And a lot of times, too, with these resellers, they add, if it doesn't fit or anything like that, you can ship it back.
13:39 Ones that don't, you can get scammed for sure, because like I said, a lot of times that happens.
13:43 Okay.
13:44 So really look for those reviews.
13:45 That's a good way to do it.
13:46 Look for the verified sticker or whatever.
13:48 And I would look at, too, like how long when you go off of Facebook, how long has their website existed?
13:54 Look at those things like that, all their payments and stuff like that.
13:57 But reviews are the biggest thing that I would look for, for sure.
14:00 Absolutely.
14:01 So I know for me, when I am following someone on TikTok or Instagram or whatever it might be,
14:05 I do see a lot of people giving their reviews like, "Oh, hey, let me do a haul for you.
14:11 I just bought all this great stuff."
14:12 So when it comes to that, how do we know if someone's being paid and they're just saying this because that company is paying them?
14:20 Yeah.
14:21 So obviously, when they're doing that on Instagram, Facebook, any of the social platforms, it says "sponsored."
14:25 Right?
14:26 So that is a sponsorship, and these social media platforms make you do that.
14:30 But at the end of the day, that's actually a really big thing, because if you go on websites nowadays, right, for clothes or anything,
14:36 back in the day, even when I used to shop, it was always like there would be a white, you know, just be the clothes.
14:41 There would nothing be lifestyle.
14:42 Now it's all about lifestyle.
14:43 Right.
14:44 You see the shirt when someone's walking, and that's a huge thing on social.
14:47 It's all about relatability and the lifestyle.
14:49 That's what people want to buy from, not just the product, but how you wear it and where you wear it.
14:54 So that's what social media does great with these influencer collaborations, is that usually that influencer, and that's the one thing I'll say,
15:00 most of these influencers are actually a buyer already.
15:04 So they actually already are a person that shops at that brand, and a lot of these businesses target those existing customers
15:10 that have a big influence in that area.
15:12 So that's a huge thing for sure.
15:14 Okay, that's great.
15:15 Okay, so now break down for me when it comes to the difference between buying something like on TikTok Shop versus like Amazon.
15:23 We were saying earlier, you know, okay, so I see something on their Amazon storefront, and I go and I buy that.
15:29 Does that really count as purchasing something on social media, or is it a little bit different compared to like the TikTok Shop specifically?
15:36 Yeah, that's a great question.
15:37 So I would say it's a little different because with Instagram and TikTok, you can kind of see that lifestyle.
15:42 Like I said, you can go based on their profile and see what other things as well.
15:46 You can see, you know, their target audience.
15:48 So that's a big thing with influencer collaborations is it's all about their target audience, right?
15:53 So if they are representing a skincare line, where's their audience, right?
15:57 How old are they?
15:58 Everything like that on Amazon, you can't see that.
16:00 So that's what's great about social is you can take deep into the research on that customer and on that influencer.
16:05 Rather than Amazon, you're just looking at the reviews as well.
16:08 Right. This seems like there are really good things about it and then some scary things about it.
16:12 Correct.
16:13 So mainly if you're going to buy on social, look at those reviews, make sure you're looking at a verified person.
16:17 Correct.
16:18 And then you're probably going to feel pretty safe.
16:19 Yep.
16:20 Okay, I love it.
16:21 All right, Jacob, well tell everybody where they can work with you if they're interested.
16:23 Yeah, if you're interested, you can reach out to Fantastic, F-A-N-N, FantasticMedia, LLC.com, or you can give us a call at 602-881-9067.
16:32 We always love to see, you know, a lot of our clients are all here in Arizona.
16:36 We're locally based.
16:37 My whole entire team is locally based, so we love working with small businesses.
16:40 Oh, that's great.
16:41 And yeah, I love the name.
16:42 It's really, really fun.
16:43 And yeah, you just gave us a bunch of great social media stuff, so I'm sure they can follow you on social media as well.
16:47 Absolutely.
16:48 Awesome.
16:49 Okay, that's so great.
16:50 Jacob, thank you again for being here.
16:51 Thank you for having me.
16:52 All right, guys, stick around because we have more of The Mix coming up after this.
16:55 [Music]
17:00 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
17:04 [Music]
17:12 We're meeting the newest baby rhino at the Wildlife World Zoo.
17:17 Oh, that's exciting.
17:18 I know.
17:19 It's going to be pretty cool.
17:20 If you're losing weight, if losing weight was one of your New Year's resolutions, we are talking with an expert about a different way to approach it this year.
17:29 Yeah, I think that's a lot of people's resolutions.
17:31 That's always like the number one, I think.
17:33 It is.
17:34 So I'm doing it, so I think other people can do it.
17:36 You look great.
17:37 Yes, absolutely.
17:38 Thank you.
17:39 I'm working hard at it.
17:40 All right, guys.
17:41 Well, we have some amazing events for you around the Valley because there's always cool stuff going on.
17:42 And first and foremost, the Chandler International Film Festival is back, running now through January 28th at Look Dine-In Cinema.
17:50 The Chandler International Film Festival is one of the fastest growing festivals in Arizona.
17:54 And there will be educational filmmaking workshops, discussion panels, celebrity appearances, and a film market expo, which is exciting because I have a good friend who is screening her film, and she's going to come in and chat with us about it.
18:08 Nice.
18:09 Is she local or is she from California?
18:10 No, she's actually from New York.
18:11 Oh, nice.
18:12 And she's coming in for the festival, and we're going to have her on the show.
18:14 Oh, that's awesome.
18:15 So I can't wait.
18:16 So make sure you tune in later this week, guys, to see her.
18:17 I like that.
18:18 All right, looking to get out to Scottsdale and do some walking.
18:20 How about the Scottsdale Art Walk?
18:22 Every Thursday now on Main Street in Scottsdale, Scottsdale Art Walk is a much larger than usual, easygoing open house for Scottsdale Art District, located primarily along the Main Street and Marshall Way in Scottsdale.
18:33 The art walk process is simple. Proceed at your own pace. Wander into the galleries that capture your fancy, stroll around, and delightful areas. Of course, fun for the whole family to go and do that.
18:44 That sounds great.
18:45 Something else that is a quintessential Arizona thing, and this is the Arizona Balloon Classic.
18:51 January 26th through the 28th at Goodyear Ballpark, the Arizona Balloon Classic fills the sky with colorful hot air balloons, and it's just an exciting, thrilling event.
19:02 Spectators can walk on the field and experience the balloon inflation and lift off.
19:07 I feel like this is something that if you are a local or someone visiting, this is a quintessential Arizona thing that you have to go see.
19:13 And we're out there every year doing the show out there.
19:16 Yeah.
19:17 But then also we'll have a booth out there. You can come meet.
19:19 Oh, cool.
19:20 We're doing some surprises at our booth this year.
19:22 Ooh.
19:23 I can't get away, but you want to stop by our booth out there.
19:26 And of course, we'll have them on this weekend and talk a little about the festival going on, which is really nice.
19:30 All right. This is really cool. I've been seeing this pop up on my social media feed, and it's the Candlelight Open Air Rock Classics on String.
19:39 And so it's pretty cool. This is actually happening January 26th at the Phoenix Zoo.
19:43 Wow.
19:44 Yeah.
19:45 This looks incredible.
19:46 It's kind of like concerts bring the magic of live, multi-sensory musical experience to all inspiring locations.
19:53 So discover the music of rock classic at the Phoenix Zoo under the gentle glow of candlelight.
19:58 Oh, that is so cool.
20:00 So they're going to have the classics like, of course, Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin.
20:04 Oh, yeah.
20:05 Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi and Eye of the Tiger by Survivor.
20:08 But isn't that look so pretty?
20:09 That looks incredible.
20:10 And I've seen them. They say they do it at churches. They do it at concert halls. But this one's at the Phoenix Zoo to check out.
20:17 That's really magical. Very cool.
20:18 Okay. So another great one, the 7th Annual Doggy Street Festival and Adopt-a-thon. This is great.
20:24 January 27th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Steel Indian School Park.
20:28 Join in at this not to be missed free family-friendly celebration of our furry best friends.
20:34 Check out fantastic pet products and services, yummy eats, vet tips, music, auction prizes and more.
20:40 Attendees are welcome to bring their friendly furry pets.
20:44 So, yeah, bring your bring your pups along and it'll be a great event.
20:47 And then after that, you can head over to the Taste of Arizona Food and Drink Festival.
20:52 Why are they giving me the food? I'm trying to. All right.
20:54 Here we go. At the Salt River Fields. Join us for the Arizona's newest intimate food and drink festival in Scottsdale, Arizona.
21:00 Mark your calendars for again January 27th from 1 to 6.
21:04 And you will taste some amazing food, drink, live music and more awaits you.
21:10 And indulge in all kinds of things from tacos, burgers, beer, wine and cocktails.
21:15 Again, 1 to 6 over at the Salt River Fields East Lawn.
21:19 Bet you could take it out. But doesn't it look so good?
21:22 Yeah, it looks delicious. Oh my gosh.
21:23 So, and of course, things we talk about you can find over on aztv.com.
21:27 Absolutely.
21:28 So, and there goes all the things that are going on.
21:31 I love it. Cool, cool, cool.
21:33 Yeah.
21:34 All right. So, we've all seen the life hacks that have taken over social media, right?
21:39 Yes. So, but do they actually work?
21:42 Well, we're going to be testing out seven of them right now.
21:45 So, roll out the table to us and let's see how this works.
21:48 So, I'm going to go ahead and stand.
21:49 This is an eclectic mix.
21:50 Yes, let's stand here for this.
21:51 Let's stand and go through this and see what we have here.
21:54 OK.
21:55 All right.
21:56 I believe you're starting over here.
21:57 I'm going to start down here with the Swifter wet pads.
22:02 So, using a Swifter with wet pads is easily and effective to clean your walls.
22:08 So, they say you can clean your walls, but the thing is--
22:10 OK, so do you want us to actually clean a wall?
22:12 Do you want me to clean a wall?
22:13 Yeah.
22:14 OK.
22:15 Do you want me to clean a wall?
22:16 So, do you know how to do this? Do you have one of these at home?
22:17 No. Well, we do, but I never really--
22:19 OK. So, I have a Swifter at home.
22:20 Oh, do you?
22:21 Yes, absolutely.
22:22 All right. Show me what you do.
22:23 So, you take this out.
22:24 OK.
22:25 Obviously, you kind of unravel it.
22:26 All right.
22:27 Put it on here, and then you put it into the little edges on the--
22:30 The back?
22:31 --corner. Yep. And so, take it over to the wall over there.
22:33 All right. Oh, you're already coming over.
22:34 And see if you can--ah, dripping.
22:35 Oh, I know. It's dripping. Sorry.
22:36 See if you can clean that wall right over there.
22:37 Which wall do you want me to clean? Behind me?
22:39 I don't know. This one right here. This one looks a little--
22:41 Oh, this one looks dirty right here.
22:42 A little dirty. Yeah.
22:43 All right. Here we go.
22:44 All right. I don't know. What do we think?
22:46 All right. Well, when we go this way, you don't look at my--
22:48 I don't know.
22:51 Oh.
22:52 Is it working?
22:54 No.
22:55 [laughter]
22:56 Didn't work.
22:57 All right. That life hack may be a little--
22:59 I want to check on that one.
23:00 --a little iffy on that one.
23:01 All right.
23:02 Okay. So, this next one, clean up kitchen messes,
23:04 like spilled sprinkles, sugar, or spices with a lint roller.
23:07 Okay.
23:08 Okay. So, here, this is what we're going to do on this.
23:10 I'll move this out of the way. Spill some there.
23:12 Spilled--y'all, the sprinkles aren't open.
23:15 They're not? Uh-oh.
23:18 Careful.
23:19 Oh.
23:20 Don't want to break a nail.
23:21 All right.
23:23 Sprinkles. Oh.
23:24 [laughter]
23:26 Those literally went everywhere.
23:28 Let me--
23:29 Those literally went everywhere.
23:30 All right. You check there, and I'll put this over here.
23:32 Nice.
23:33 All right. Here we go.
23:34 Okay. It works, kind of.
23:35 Is it working?
23:36 Yeah. It's not really rolling, though.
23:38 You guys--
23:39 [laughter]
23:40 Who let me and Brad do this?
23:42 I know. Do these.
23:43 All right.
23:44 The life hack--
23:45 Oh, yeah.
23:46 All right. Pick that there.
23:47 Oh, my gosh. All right.
23:48 Moving on.
23:49 Let's move down here.
23:50 Moving on.
23:51 Moving on.
23:52 Moving on.
23:53 How about put a slice of bread in freshly baked cookies to keep them soft?
23:58 Oh.
23:59 Oh, there it is right here.
24:00 So it's already in there.
24:01 You know what? I've heard of this one before.
24:02 Yeah.
24:03 Josh's Nana does this, and it works.
24:05 That is a real thing.
24:06 So people have done it for years? Okay.
24:08 Okay.
24:09 You want to check one?
24:10 I'll test it.
24:11 See how fresh they are.
24:12 Ooh.
24:13 Yeah. That's really gooey right there.
24:14 Okay. That's pretty good.
24:15 Mm-hmm.
24:16 All right.
24:17 All right.
24:18 Okay.
24:19 Next.
24:20 This is mine.
24:21 So I'm going to swallow that cookie.
24:24 Spray your measuring cups with nonstick cooking spray before measuring sticky ingredients like peanut butter, honey, or molasses.
24:30 Oh.
24:31 And it'll help the sticky substance slide right out.
24:34 I never thought about that.
24:35 I know.
24:36 So we have some cooking spray here.
24:41 There we go.
24:42 Nice.
24:43 And then we got some peanut butter.
24:44 That isn't open.
24:45 Oh, it is.
24:46 This one's open.
24:48 Okay.
24:49 So nice sticky peanut butter.
24:50 Let's see if it works.
24:51 Yeah.
24:52 Oh, yeah.
24:53 All right.
24:54 Good.
24:55 So far nothing.
24:56 All right.
24:57 We got two.
24:58 We have the cookies and the peanut butter.
24:59 The cookies and the cooking spray.
25:00 Yep.
25:01 Okay.
25:02 So now we come down here.
25:03 Get more juice out of your citrus by microwaving it for 10 seconds and rolling it out back and
25:07 forth on a hard surface.
25:08 Okay.
25:09 Which one is microwaved and which one is not?
25:10 I think this one probably looks like it's microwaved.
25:11 This one?
25:12 Okay.
25:13 Does this look microwaved?
25:14 Yeah.
25:15 If it's not microwaved, then we'll come back.
25:16 Okay.
25:17 All right.
25:18 Here.
25:19 Eric's going to microwave that one for us.
25:20 All right.
25:21 Go microwave it.
25:22 This one will be the not microwaved one.
25:23 Okay.
25:24 There we go.
25:25 Okay.
25:26 Okay.
25:27 So this next one, all right, this is for like your greens and stuff like that.
25:29 So what you're supposed to do is put them in a glass jar with water, so a little bit of
25:34 water at the bottom.
25:35 Like flowers.
25:36 Like flowers, yeah.
25:37 But you put them in your fridge and you cover them with a little bit of plastic and then
25:43 they'll stay good.
25:44 So then you put it in your fridge like that.
25:47 I like it.
25:48 We can't really test this out right now, but I'm telling you, it works.
25:52 So we'll keep it.
25:53 There we go.
25:54 There you go.
25:55 All right.
25:56 Okay.
25:57 And then, oh, you did that one.
25:58 So I put it.
25:59 Oh, then this is, you want to do this one?
26:00 No, you do it.
26:01 Okay.
26:02 Because I'm going to wait for my lemon.
26:03 All right.
26:04 So this is the Sleepy Girl Mocktail.
26:05 Oh, yeah.
26:06 Okay.
26:07 So first and foremost, we advise you to consult your doctor before adding any supplements
26:09 to your diet.
26:10 But this is a great recipe to help you sleep better.
26:13 So what you're going to do is half a cup of pure tart cherry juice.
26:19 I don't have a measuring cup, but we're just going to guesstimate.
26:21 Eyeball it.
26:22 That looks good.
26:23 It's about half a cup, maybe a little more.
26:24 Yeah, there we go.
26:25 And then you're going to do a scoop of magnesium.
26:30 Don't do too much of this.
26:31 I know.
26:32 I'm telling you from personal experience.
26:34 And then you're going to top it off with a little bit of a lemon lime sparkling drink.
26:39 Oh, that looks good.
26:40 There you go.
26:41 It does look good.
26:42 Yeah, this will help you sleep.
26:43 And not getting late.
26:44 And it looks great.
26:45 It's skinny.
26:46 I'm not going to try any because if I have some, I might fall asleep.
26:47 But go to sleep.
26:48 All right.
26:49 Are we supposed to put...
26:50 All right, here we go.
26:51 All right, I got the stack.
26:52 Okay, so your lemon has been microwaved.
26:54 Yeah.
26:55 Mine has not.
26:56 Right.
26:57 So let's try this.
26:58 Okay, and we're supposed to...
26:59 Juice it.
27:00 Oh, juice it.
27:01 Yep.
27:02 So we cut it and juice it.
27:03 Thirty-five seconds?
27:04 It's only supposed to be ten seconds.
27:05 We got our wraps.
27:06 Oh, do we get...
27:07 Okay, hey.
27:08 All right, coming up, weight loss.
27:09 It's a big trend, but how should we approach it?
27:15 Well, we can approach it differently this year.
27:17 Come on back.
27:18 We'll tell you about it with an expert.
27:19 And we'll show you how much lemon juice we got from each one of these.
27:30 For millions of Americans, the phrase "New Year, New You" represents some type of commitment
27:42 to self-improvement.
27:43 Well, Brad talked with Georgetown University Hospital family physician, Dr. LaTosha Perkins,
27:48 about why people should take a more holistic approach to health, rather than only focusing
27:53 on weight loss.
27:54 Good morning, Dr. Perkins.
27:55 How are you this morning?
27:56 I'm doing great.
27:57 How are you?
28:00 I'm doing really good, because I'm on a journey, of course, losing weight, being healthy, and
28:08 that is what is so important right now, especially when we hear the "New Year, New You" goes
28:14 with weight loss.
28:15 But let's talk about the numbers on the scale.
28:18 Really don't indicate how healthy you are, does it?
28:21 No.
28:23 Weight is not the only indication of how healthy you are.
28:26 I mean, we can't ignore weight.
28:28 Sometimes it has a way of showing us some underlying medical issues, but it is not the
28:33 only indicator of how healthy you are.
28:35 Things like, can you climb a flight of stairs?
28:38 Are you sleeping through the night?
28:40 Are you drinking enough water?
28:42 Those are things that help us figure out if you're really living a healthy lifestyle or
28:46 we need to make a couple of changes.
28:48 Yeah.
28:49 One thing I know that's going around, and that's, of course, the diet drugs.
28:53 We are hearing them in the news, we're hearing different people using them and stuff, but
28:56 we got to really be careful because there's things you got to talk to your physician about
29:01 that you really need to say, "Is this for me or is this not for me?"
29:05 Right?
29:06 Absolutely.
29:07 Having a doctor that you can talk to is imperative when you think about the weight loss drugs.
29:12 They're not without their risk, and so you need a doctor to help guide and supervise
29:16 that medication and decide even if that medication is for you.
29:20 Just because it's for someone else doesn't mean that it's indicating you.
29:24 Having a doctor that you can go to and get some counseling around making healthier choices
29:29 so you can figure out a holistic way to have a multi-pronged strategy to you being healthy
29:38 and helping you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
29:41 Yeah.
29:42 We're seeing people go to work out.
29:43 They're prioritizing, of course, being healthier, but let's talk about a plan because that's
29:49 something that definitely will help you get to those goals.
29:52 Absolutely.
29:54 So step one is getting that health maintenance exam, knowing your general physical, what's
30:00 in it, if there's some blood work that needs to be done based on your family history, are
30:04 there some health screenings we need to do based on your age and gender, and understanding
30:09 also where you are mentally.
30:12 Are you positive thinking around your behavioral changes?
30:15 Are there small things that you can do to be less stressed?
30:19 That's also a part of being healthy.
30:21 So you're not alone.
30:23 You can come up with some things that you think you should focus on.
30:26 Go on into your doctor, get that health screening in the physical and come up with a holistic
30:32 way to approach the things that you should prioritize as an individual.
30:36 All right.
30:37 You said something very important there, and that is, of course, prioritizing what you
30:41 need to have done.
30:42 What are some of the top things that people do need to look at, that we all need to look
30:45 at when we're going in to talk to our physicians?
30:49 You have to know if you have high blood pressure.
30:52 Weight is a part of it.
30:53 You want to know if you have high cholesterol, what your weight circumference is.
31:00 Are you sleeping through the night?
31:02 Are you stressed?
31:04 You have feelings of depression.
31:06 Things like that can help make you make unhealthy choices.
31:10 And so you want to make sure that you are prioritizing what's right for you as an individual.
31:17 And it may not be weight, and it may not even be sleep.
31:20 It might be hydration.
31:21 And so having a doctor, knowing that you need to think of in a positive way, there are small
31:27 steps you're going to take.
31:28 And even developing a team, an accountability partner, someone who you can check in with
31:32 to make sure that you are taking the small steps and that you haven't forgotten that
31:36 we're going to live a healthier life this year.
31:39 I like that.
31:40 Dr. Perkins, can I ask you this?
31:41 Because this is my new thing for this year, and that is embrace the scale.
31:46 A lot of people run from checking their weight.
31:49 My new thing is embrace that scale.
31:51 Check my weight more, because that's going to get me to my healthy goal, right?
31:56 No.
31:59 The opposite of that.
32:01 You can get on the scale, and that's information that's important.
32:05 Thank you, scale, for me knowing my general weight.
32:09 And again, don't ignore it, because it could show something.
32:12 If there's something underlying, there's a big change, whether it's big weight loss or
32:16 big weight gain.
32:18 But I want you to focus on how am I feeling.
32:21 When I wake up in the morning, do I feel energized?
32:23 Do I like my skin?
32:26 Am I able to climb up a flight of stairs without getting huffy and puffy?
32:31 Am I okay?
32:33 So in general, just a general self-check-in is the first thing that you should be doing,
32:38 not hopping on the scale.
32:39 All right, I'm throwing the scale away.
32:40 No, I'm just kidding.
32:41 Oh, this is great information, doctor.
32:45 Where can we find more information like this?
32:48 Familydoctor.org is a great resource.
32:50 You can get some more tips on how to be healthy and also find a doctor in your area.
32:55 I love it.
32:56 Dr. Perkins, thanks for joining us this morning.
32:57 All right, welcome back to the Arizona Daily Mix.
33:12 The Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium, and Safari Park has a new baby.
33:17 Let's go meet the wonderful new baby white rhinoceros.
33:22 And Danielle, how are you this morning?
33:24 I am doing wonderful.
33:27 How are you?
33:28 I'm doing great.
33:29 All right, let's talk about this because this is pretty important here to have this done
33:33 at the zoo here of having the new baby born there, right?
33:39 Yes, we are so excited for little baby Siki.
33:43 Her name is Masiki, but we call her Siki.
33:46 And she is our newest addition here, born on November 7th.
33:51 This is such a significant birth, not just for Wildlife World, but for rhino conservation
33:55 under professional care overall.
33:58 This special little baby, not only are females rare, which she is, but her parents, all three
34:04 of our female rhinos were imported from Africa.
34:08 Their parents were unfortunately killed by poachers and we were fortunate enough to be
34:11 able to have the resources to provide them a home in hopes of a successful breeding program.
34:15 So as they got older and reached sexual maturity, we shipped in Mayoto, our male from San Diego
34:20 Zoo Safari Park, who also was once imported from Africa.
34:24 So little Siki here has an entirely new genetic line under the professional care population.
34:30 Wow, that's amazing.
34:31 And Danielle, you said something that's very important there, and that is where you are
34:35 as one of the many zoos around the country who are preserving these animals because of
34:40 poachers just wanting their tusks.
34:43 And that is why this is such a big deal of us making sure that these animals conventionally
34:48 go back into the wildlife somewhere down the line, but still they're around for life.
34:55 Yes.
34:57 So unfortunately, white rhinos and other rhino species are killed by poachers for their horn,
35:03 which is made of nothing more than keratin, which is the same protein as our hair and
35:08 our nails.
35:09 So you can see that beautiful horn there.
35:12 And it's like I said, the same thing as our hair and nails, but it's believed in some
35:16 Asian cultures that it does have aphrodisiac properties.
35:20 So unfortunately, they do face that threat.
35:23 That is their number one threat out in the wild.
35:24 They have no natural predators.
35:26 So we want to make sure that we keep this amazing species around for many years to come.
35:31 And so breeding programs like this with little Siki, with our rhinos here at Wildlife World
35:37 are so important for conservation efforts because not only are these rhinos here to
35:40 interact with the public and give people a greater appreciation for these amazing animals
35:44 to want to preserve and protect them out in the wild, but it's just hugely important for
35:50 this species for their survival.
35:52 Yeah.
35:53 All right.
35:54 So how big will they get?
35:55 Because I know there are different rhinos right there because there's different sizes.
36:00 I mean, will they get pretty, pretty big or are they still growing?
36:05 Yes.
36:07 So our rhinos here are fully grown.
36:10 They can get anywhere from about 3,700 to about 5,000 pounds.
36:14 So definitely quite an impressive animal.
36:17 And little Siki is just at about 325 to 350 right now.
36:21 So we are watching her grow and we are so fortunate to be able to watch her grow and
36:26 play and run around in a safe environment.
36:29 So definitely a lot of growing to do.
36:32 But you can see we have our full size female here behind me.
36:35 And this is Mama Zuri.
36:38 And she is an incredible mom.
36:41 Oh my God.
36:42 So Danielle, is Siki on display yet or you still have her in the back area getting used
36:47 to everyone?
36:48 Yes.
36:49 So Siki is on display.
36:52 Now we do limit that time in the yard because we do have to shift our rhinos.
36:55 Our rhino specialist team is incredible with these amazing animals.
36:59 They work with positive reinforcement so they can shift them in and out of the barn.
37:02 But they do have that climate controlled barn as well.
37:04 So if we have extreme weather, there's that to take into consideration as well as various
37:09 other factors as well.
37:10 So we want to make sure that mom and baby are as comfortable as possible.
37:14 And so what we do is we'll work with them on a daily basis with that training.
37:19 So if you don't see baby Siki, we do have a lot posted on our social media.
37:23 But she is currently out for the public to see and interact with and watch her grow.
37:27 Oh wow.
37:28 This is so great.
37:29 Danielle, thank you very much for sharing her with us.
37:32 And of course you can go out and take a look at the Wildlife World Zoo by going to their
37:36 website and seeing the times that they are out there.
37:39 And again, easy way to get out there, hit 303 and you're right there in place.
37:42 Danielle, thanks for joining us this morning.
37:47 Thank you.
37:48 All right.
37:49 Stick around.
37:50 We have more of the mix coming up after this.
37:52 According to Fidelity Investments latest New Year's financial resolution study, two
38:07 thirds of Americans are considering a financial resolution for the year ahead.
38:11 Well, last week, Brad talked with Kelly Lannan, who is the senior vice president of emerging
38:16 customers at Fidelity Investments to discuss.
38:21 Good morning, Kelly.
38:22 How are you this morning?
38:24 I am very good.
38:25 Good morning, Brad.
38:26 And Brad, happy new year.
38:28 I hope we can still say that through January.
38:31 You think that's fair?
38:32 You know what?
38:33 I think we should say it all year long.
38:35 Just happy new year.
38:36 Why not?
38:37 Why not?
38:38 Because this is what's important about this new year.
38:40 And that's, of course, our finances.
38:42 And we know with the new year kicking off, people have been studying what's going on
38:46 in America, finance and what's concerning people.
38:49 So let's talk about this.
38:51 Yes, of course.
38:53 You know, we actually just conducted a study at Fidelity, and we did find that more than
38:58 half Americans there, they are feeling overwhelmed by their personal finances.
39:02 And 31 percent say they have a stressful relationship with their money.
39:06 And, you know, some of those top financial concerns and, Brad, this might not come as
39:10 a surprise to you, are inflation and unexpected expenses.
39:14 You know, those are really the top two.
39:15 And those are followed by economic uncertainty and just not having enough money saved away
39:20 in an emergency fund.
39:21 Yeah, I'm be honest.
39:23 I'm probably one of those people because, you know, we do we make that New Year's resolution,
39:29 right?
39:30 We make a lot of different ones and we know there's some top ones out there that people
39:33 make.
39:34 And what are those this year?
39:35 Yeah, so, you know, well, the good news is bringing the top like two and three are considering
39:40 a financial resolution.
39:41 So that's the good news.
39:43 And we are really excited about this.
39:45 You know, people are ultimately deciding they need to change, whether that is their finances
39:49 or their physical health.
39:50 I mean, Brad, how many people out there have already joined a gym to kick off the new year?
39:54 But the top three financial resolutions and these actually really remain consistent year
39:58 over year as we've done this study is save more money, pay down debt and spend less.
40:03 Yeah, I like that.
40:05 That's where I'm doing right now.
40:06 But the big problem is, how do we stick to these resolutions about our money?
40:11 Yeah, and this is the question I love, because this can also be the hard part.
40:15 So, you know, two quick and easy ways to help.
40:17 So, number one, set specific and realistic goals.
40:21 You know, many people, they set themselves up for failure before they even get started
40:25 by setting these unrealistic or overly ambitious resolutions.
40:30 But by setting specific resolutions, you know, breaking them down into smaller milestones,
40:35 it's easier to reach them.
40:37 And another recommendation, you know, celebrate those milestones, have a little fun with it.
40:41 And number two, having a plan in place to reach those goals.
40:45 Any resolution without a plan is a recipe for failure, like even worse, resolution burnout,
40:51 a roadmap, a clear plan.
40:53 It can really help combat against this burnout.
40:56 And we've actually found that those who do have a plan in place that outlines the specific
41:01 milestones they are trying to reach, they are more likely to stay on track and they're
41:05 more likely to achieve their goals.
41:07 That's awesome.
41:08 And the next stop, I think some people run into, and that is, of course, unexpected things
41:12 happening to them throughout the year.
41:13 So where can they go to navigate and get help with that?
41:17 Yes, and exactly that.
41:20 We are here to help.
41:21 And another fun fact, January, it's Financial Wellness Month as well.
41:25 And so Fidelity has assembled a number of resources, including insights and tools on
41:30 popular topics such as, you know, dealing with the unexpected, saving and spending basics,
41:36 achieving the money milestones that matter most to you.
41:39 So please check out fidelity.com/financialwellness.
41:43 We brought everything all together to really help people on their journey to financial
41:47 well-being.
41:48 Kelly, that is so great and so important.
41:50 Let's also talk really quick about, of course, Americans tackling the rise in inflation,
41:55 the mounting debt, you know, and of course, they want to achieve financial wellness this
42:00 year.
42:01 That's what's so important.
42:02 That's a big word right there.
42:03 Financial wellness.
42:04 Yes, and so inflation, as you mentioned, you know, that we found is the top reason why
42:11 Americans were just not able to stick to their 2023 goals.
42:15 You know, 40%, they told us they have less money to work with due to inflation impact
42:20 on the day-to-day expenses.
42:22 But the good news, okay, 92% of those making a resolution, they are thinking differently
42:27 given the events of the last couple of years.
42:29 One third are planning to make their finances more of a priority.
42:32 And, you know, I cannot stress enough the importance of having a plan.
42:36 And it doesn't have to be anything big, you know, jot down a few notes in your phone to
42:40 just make sure you're holding yourself accountable.
42:42 In fact, 70% of Americans claim they do have a plan in place to reach their financial goals,
42:48 which is so important to ensure success against them.
42:51 I like it.
42:52 Kelly, this is awesome information.
42:53 So where can we find more things about making sure that we are financial well during the
42:58 new year?
42:59 Yeah, so for more information, check out fidelity.com/financialwellness.
43:03 Perfect.
