Jamie Dornan’s Run-In With TOXIC Caterpillar Was Life-Threatening, Says Friend _
Transcript
00:00 It wasn't a hangover. It was a poisonous toxic caterpillar.
00:04 Jeez! What a story!
00:06 Jamie Dornan's run-in with toxic caterpillars has us 50 shades of freaked out.
00:13 On a recent episode of BBC Radio Scotland's The Good, The Bad and The Unexpected podcast,
00:21 the Belfast star's friend, BBC journalist Gordon Smart,
00:25 reveals that the two encountered a poisonous insect while golfing during a trip to Portugal.
00:32 Anyway, the next day we played golf. We were all absolutely dreadful.
00:35 And I started to feel tingling in my left hand, then tingling in my left arm.
00:39 And being the son of a GP, I thought this is normally the sign of the start of a heart attack.
00:43 Anyway, got on the Uber, collapsed and woke up in a hospital bed,
00:46 attached to a machine with a doctor saying, "What on earth have you been doing, young man?"
00:50 Gordon says Jamie went through something similar.
00:53 I got out of the hospital, got back to the house and my mate turned up back
00:57 and his name happens to be Jamie Dornan, Hollywood star.
01:01 Wow!
01:02 And there he was with all this stuff attached to his chest saying,
01:05 "Dear me, Gordon, about 20 minutes after you left, my left arm went numb,
01:09 my left leg went numb, my right leg went numb and I found myself in the back of an ambulance."
01:13 Now a source tells E! News that Jamie did not go to the hospital
01:17 and "even played a game of golf the next day and won."
01:21 However, the Good Morning Britain host says even though he assumed his health hiccup
01:26 was the result of too many espresso martinis,
01:30 it might have actually been the work of a tiny threat known as the processionary moth caterpillar.
01:37 And it turns out that there are caterpillars on golf courses in the south of Portugal
01:41 that have been killing people's dogs and giving men in their 40s heart attacks.
01:45 Wow!
01:46 It turns out we'd brushed up against hairy processionary caterpillars
01:50 and I'd been very lucky to come out of that one alive.
01:53 According to Great Britain's Forest Research,
01:56 the caterpillars have thousands of tiny hairs which can cause irritation
02:01 and rashes on the skin, eyes and throat.
02:04 E! News reached out to a rep for Jamie in response to the story and did not yet hear back.
02:10 The Fifty Shades stars encounter with potentially prickly caterpillars,
02:15 a story we definitely did not have on our 2024 bingo card.
