00:00 You know, Susan, good shoes take you to good places.
00:03 Especially if they're durable. You can go to more places, right, King?
00:08 You can even go to the beach while you're in nature because of the eco-friendly shoes that you can use.
00:15 That's the story of Mark Salazar.

00:46 Mariela started selling sustainable shoes in 2008.
00:53 Sustainability is all about using the materials or the resources that the Philippines has.
01:00 And what is this? One of which is beef.
01:03 We also use Buri.
01:05 The design of the shoes is divided into different series depending on the materials used.
01:11 The Retaso series is made from the bamboo that is woven from the factory of pants.
01:16 Our manufacturers come from our shoe capital of the Philippines, Marikina.
01:22 And also, we also have that in Liliu, Laguna.
01:25 Arina series is also very noticeable, made from old bags of Arina.
01:30 They also have Fiesta and Siargao series that reflect the culture of different provinces.
01:37 They can buy eco-friendly shoes for P1,000 to P1,400.
01:42 Because of this, we can help our artisans, handcraftsmen, instead of machine-made.
01:48 They have more passion in making products.
01:52 You should know that the shoes and flip-flops made from plastic are thrown away for a thousand years before they rot.
02:01 The shoes made from natural materials like beef can rot for 25 to 80 years.
02:09 The problem with garbage is what Camille saw when she worked in the hotel industry back then.
02:16 There is around one kilo of waste per room per night that a guest generates.
02:22 If you could just imagine how much it is.
02:25 In 2018, she started making eco-friendly hotel slippers made from cow or buffalo.
02:32 It is possible that we can actually create our own version of eco-friendly slippers without importing from other countries.
02:41 Camille met some communities in Bicol that are collecting cow or buffalo.
02:46 We have the Kabihug tribe. They are the ones who collect the buffalo.
02:51 They also use coco coir, or cow dung, and other materials from nature.
02:58 We have banana, we use banana bark, we even use grass flowers, the ones you can only see on the side.
03:07 Camille and her artisans have a lot of Filipino products and person with disability in making shoes.
03:14 The materials are brought to the shoe factory in Gumacaca, Quezon.
03:18 We were able to deliver around 15,000 pairs of Grinelas already to various hotels.
03:26 Camille can buy eco-friendly footwear online.
03:30 For the hotel slippers, around P200 to P500 per pair.
03:35 While for the shoes, our Grinelas fashion line, that would range from around P1,500 to up to P5,000.
03:45 Because we also do bespoke or customized.
03:49 A person who can't go out without a footwear, can't go out.
03:53 Maniano slippers, chinelas.
03:55 They can be ramped while helping with the environment.
03:59 I am Mark Salazar, and that is the story you need to know.
