00:00 And we are live here.
00:05 Day three of the YSL Young Thug RICO trial,
00:11 live from the Fulton County Courthouse in Atlanta, Georgia.
00:16 Is infamous Sylvia.
00:18 Hey guys.
00:22 In the chapel.
00:24 In the chapel.
00:25 Prayers up.
00:27 Much prayer needed.
00:28 Much prayer needed.
00:30 And we also are joined with Kennedy Hobbs
00:33 from the SO team.
00:35 Hey Kennedy.
00:36 Hey.
00:36 And I am Felicia Palmer from SO.
00:40 And we are here and bringing the trial to you
00:42 live and direct every day.
00:44 This trial is important for the culture,
00:48 for hip hop culture, for African American culture.
00:52 It is important for Atlanta, the city of Atlanta
00:55 and the people of Atlanta.
00:57 And we are committed to making sure that it is presented
01:01 the full story, the whole story
01:03 and nothing but the whole story.
01:06 You know, we're not doing tea and drama here.
01:08 We just give facts and information
01:10 and hoping that this trial can be done in a fair manner.
01:15 Today's day three.
01:16 How's it looking out there so far?
01:18 You got in, you got started at 10 o'clock in the morning.
01:22 10-ish?
01:23 Yeah, 10-ish.
01:25 Back to 10-ish.
01:27 And Judge Glanville is there.
01:29 And we've been this week hearing the opening statements.
01:33 All of the opening statements have been presented
01:35 from the state prosecutor, from all six co-defendants.
01:40 Only five.
01:41 Let's just say a five.
01:44 Because members, Mr. Harvey waived his opening argument.
01:49 Oh, that's right.
01:50 That's right.
01:51 So yesterday we heard the big one yesterday was Brian Steele.
01:55 That was Young Thug's attorney.
01:56 Everybody wanted to hear from him.
01:58 And he took time to really paint the picture
02:03 of Thug's upbringing.
02:05 Just real quick recap.
02:06 One of the big pieces that came out of there
02:08 was he shared that Thug, of course,
02:10 we all know he came from a poor community.
02:13 And that his name stands for,
02:17 what does it stand for, Kennedy?
02:19 (laughs)
02:20 Truly humble under God.
02:22 Truly humble under God.
02:23 That is what Young Thug stands for.
02:26 So if anyone asks you,
02:27 that's what you want to let them know from now on.
02:31 And that Push and Peace stands for Push and Pursuit.
02:33 Hey, I'm a Thug then.
02:34 I'm a Thug.
02:35 Yeah, you know, we all Thugs.
02:38 If you're a Thug, raise your hand.
02:40 With those terms, yes.
02:43 Exactly.
02:44 So we're all Thugs out here.
02:46 So that was a big piece and a big revelation.
02:50 And he sought yesterday to really separate
02:54 Jeffrey Williams, Young Thug, from the co-defendants
02:58 and say, listen, he doesn't know these guys.
03:00 Some of these folks that you've attached him to,
03:02 he has no relationship with them at all.
03:05 And the ones he does have relationship with,
03:07 it was not a criminal relationship.
03:08 So that's where we left off.
03:10 Yesterday, we did hear from a couple more
03:14 of the opening statements,
03:15 but nothing so exciting as that piece, I think.
03:18 So today, this is where the first testimony comes in.
03:22 And we are hearing from a gang expert.
03:25 So tell us about the gentlemen that we saw just today.
03:29 And we do have those pictures.
03:30 We'll start showing the pictures.
03:32 The gang expert came on today as the state's first witness.
03:35 And they're gonna have about 400 witnesses,
03:38 200 to 400 witnesses, I'm hearing.
03:40 What I'm hearing, we don't know the minute number yet,
03:46 but that's what I'm hearing.
03:48 Okay, so this gentleman, his name is, where is mine?
03:53 Mark Belk.
03:56 Mark Belk.
03:57 And I'm hoping our producer will show us a picture
04:01 of him in a second.
04:02 But he is one of the state's witnesses.
04:06 He's a police department gang unit person and expert.
04:11 And he said he worked for a private security company
04:15 in the community as well.
04:17 And he worked at nightclub as well.
04:20 Yeah, he works for Atlanta Police Department,
04:23 but he does, I guess, do they still call it moonshining?
04:27 Yeah, no, not moonshining, is it moonlighting?
04:30 Moonshining is with the lickers.
04:33 My bad.
04:34 We wanna moonshine, we don't wanna moonlight.
04:36 Moonlight.
04:38 Yes.
04:38 So he moonlights as a club bouncer, I guess,
04:43 a club security.
04:44 Uh-huh.
04:45 Okay.
04:46 That's what we call him.
04:47 That's not what he called it.
04:49 He just say he works with them.
04:50 Bro, you're a club bouncer, stop.
04:54 So he says he knows how to decode gang messages.
04:59 And he attended the National Gang Conference in California.
05:03 So he's trying to give his gang bonafides.
05:06 But he's never been in a gang.
05:08 He's just, well, he's in the blue gang.
05:10 The boys in blue gang.
05:13 But he's not in a street gang.
05:15 No, not true.
05:16 So I bet he doesn't know a lot about gangs.
05:17 Anyway, so what's his story?
05:20 He tries to establish himself as an expert with gangs.
05:22 He says, "I've worked in clubs, I've worked with the police,
05:25 "I've been to this conference."
05:26 And pretty much, he's the person that we're supposed to,
05:29 is the gang whisperer.
05:31 He's the one that's gonna encode or decode for us
05:35 the language from these lyrics, I suppose,
05:37 and all of these tattoos, et cetera.
05:39 I think it's more of the tattoos and the gang,
05:43 the diagram, the blue book, or what are they called?
05:47 The black book?
05:48 The book that's supposed to give the instruction
05:52 on how the gang operates.
05:54 They got a book.
05:56 Well, not this gang,
05:59 'cause this gang is considered a hybrid gang.
06:01 But there's traditional gang,
06:05 non-traditional gang, and a hybrid.
06:08 Let's see that picture of that producer.
06:10 So yeah, we've got the three different types of gangs.
06:13 We've got a gang triangle.
06:16 No, this is not the types,
06:17 but let's put that triangle up anyway.
06:20 And you said that there's traditional gang,
06:22 there's a hybrid gang.
06:23 Talk about what he said about those things.
06:25 The traditional gang is like the gang
06:27 from the beginning, the Bloods, the Crips,
06:31 and some of those.
06:32 Remember in New York, they used to have the seven something,
06:36 seven, what was it?
06:37 Well, seven something.
06:42 And then they had the gangs like the Disciple.
06:47 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:49 Black Disciples, I think they were in Chicago.
06:53 Yes, those were in Chicago.
06:56 I know, wasn't it seven something?
06:58 'Cause I used to be scared of them in New York.
07:00 We had one.
07:01 Yeah, I'm trying to remember.
07:03 It's not seven something,
07:04 but I'm trying to remember what you're talking about.
07:05 Yeah, so those were like-
07:07 Five percenters?
07:08 Those are the-
07:09 No, five percenters was a gang.
07:10 Five percenters are not a gang.
07:11 I know that.
07:13 God, why you-
07:14 Just making sure.
07:14 Okay, anyway.
07:16 There was one that was seven something,
07:18 'cause when we were little,
07:19 when I was little, I was scared of them.
07:21 So, and they scared the crap out of me,
07:24 so I knew about that gang.
07:26 But the traditional is one that has like structure,
07:31 hierarchy, and there's a big keith,
07:34 and there's people, lieutenants type of stuff,
07:38 and they have like a book where you can get out,
07:43 can't get out, certain things you have to do to get out.
07:46 Everything is structured, is written out.
07:49 There's policies and procedures and stuff like that.
07:51 Wow, they like form like a whole organization.
07:53 Like it sounds like the mafia too.
07:56 The mafia is a gang.
07:58 Yeah, it definitely is.
07:59 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:01 Hey, Lady Coltrane.
08:03 Yeah, so the mafia is a gang,
08:06 and so that's the traditional gang,
08:08 gangs of New York, gangs of back in the days.
08:12 And then the non-traditional is where they don't have
08:16 some sort of hierarchy or anything like that.
08:19 There's just, they run,
08:20 but you know what the procedures are,
08:23 but it's not written, nothing written.
08:26 Traditional one has, it's really organized, I would say.
08:29 And a hybrid is a bunch of different ones coming together,
08:34 and it's just, you know how you just happen to just do it,
08:37 and you just follow something,
08:38 it's nothing written, nothing, no rules.
08:40 Okay, so sort of like you got the Bloods,
08:43 but then you got the Crips,
08:45 and then you got the Piru,
08:46 and you got this version of it,
08:47 and you got that street,
08:48 and is that, I guess, the hybrids,
08:51 the ones that are kind of like?
08:53 They just develop over the,
08:54 like it's not something that's strict.
08:57 It's kind of like an organic offshoot.
09:00 So kind of like a neighborhood thing,
09:02 like if y'all all a part of the same neighborhood
09:04 or the same block,
09:05 then it just becomes like a organization
09:07 or a group or something?
09:09 Yeah, something like that.
09:11 It's nothing like,
09:12 you know how you have a hybrid type of car?
09:14 Yeah.
09:15 It just does happen, you just do it,
09:17 and then it's like formal.
09:19 It's nothing formal, that's what it is, informal.
09:21 Okay, Kya, okay.
09:22 So we got these different gang structures,
09:26 and what did he say that the YSL was?
09:30 What type of gang did he?
09:32 He hasn't gotten to YSL yet.
09:33 Oh, okay.
09:35 He's laying the foundation of what it is
09:37 and who it is, how do they become.
09:40 Then he was showing, talking about the tattoo,
09:43 and we left off with the different signature that they have,
09:47 and they showed the picture of the ground
09:50 and how they marked their territory
09:52 and the graffiti that they have that you would know.
09:56 One of the graffitis he had were the five stars.
09:59 Then he talked about,
10:01 I mean, he didn't go into that and that,
10:05 but he's going to eventually,
10:07 but he just showed like the arm,
10:09 you know, the arm that showed had different tattoos.
10:11 Yeah.
10:12 So these are gang tattoos on here,
10:14 these pictures that we're looking at right now.
10:16 Yeah, if you zoom in, you will see the name,
10:19 Bleeveland, they take away the C
10:22 because they don't want the C because it's C for Crip,
10:25 so they wouldn't put it there for blood.
10:28 So they would, it's called Bleeveland instead of Cleveland.
10:31 Bleeveland, yeah.
10:33 And then they have like different wording that they use
10:36 in certain structures.
10:38 And then he basically gave
10:40 a educational background of gangs.
10:43 Right, and anybody that listens to hip hop
10:45 is familiar with this, you know,
10:47 this kind of how, you know, you'll hear,
10:50 that's why Cardi B's gang is called the Barney gang,
10:53 even though her name is Cardi B,
10:55 but nevertheless, people who are gang affiliated,
10:58 you know, we understand that,
10:59 how they changed the names and things like that.
11:01 So he was basically setting himself up to show that,
11:05 I understand how gangs work,
11:07 I understand the structure of gangs,
11:09 I'm an expert.
11:10 What's that triangle?
11:11 Can we look at that triangle again?
11:13 Okay, so this is a gang triangle.
11:15 You have the person, and what does it say?
11:18 The gang, and what is that, the crime?
11:24 I can't really see what that is.
11:27 The crime, the person, and the gang.
11:30 I guess it's based basically on a type of crime
11:32 'cause certain crime would be affiliated
11:36 with the furtherance of that particular gang.
11:39 You know, like somebody's theft, stealing cars,
11:42 that would help to benefit the gang
11:45 'cause he might give it to the gang member
11:48 or they might sell it and get the money for it
11:50 and give it to the gang for their organization.
11:55 Mm-hmm, okay.
11:56 Good afternoon, Tracey, thanks for joining.
11:59 All right, so, you know, we got a bit of a structure
12:03 of what these gangs look like
12:06 and how they operate, et cetera.
12:08 What was the gist of his, was that his entire testimony?
12:11 And then you guys broke for lunch?
12:13 Yeah, we're not done with him.
12:15 She's still examining him right now.
12:19 Okay, and who's examining him?
12:20 Who's questioning him?
12:22 The prosecutor, Adrian Love.
12:24 Okay, Adrian.
12:25 All right, so Adrian is back today.
12:27 Is she seeming a bit more on top of herself?
12:30 Oh, yeah, yeah, they seem more a little bit.
12:32 And then a lot of the motions and the objections
12:36 were denied from the judge.
12:39 They were doing a lot of objections, a lot of objections,
12:42 and it was overruled, overruled, overruled, overruled.
12:45 He got a couple of sustained in there,
12:48 but most of it was overruled.
12:49 Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, okay.
12:52 And I suppose at some point we're gonna see tattoos
12:55 from the YSL, from Thug and some other folks,
12:59 because I would imagine that that's,
13:01 I would imagine they took photos of them
13:04 while they have photos from prison,
13:05 but we'll see what happens.
13:06 So he's gonna be testifying the rest of the afternoon?
13:09 Yeah, 'cause, well, it's supposed to be three witnesses.
13:13 Okay.
13:14 'Cause they brought it down from six.
13:15 Originally it was supposed to be six.
13:16 Now it's only three witnesses they're doing, so.
13:19 Okay, so who else are we seeing today?
13:21 So we're seeing the gang that's--
13:23 They didn't give us a name of the other witnesses.
13:26 Okay.
13:27 We probably won't even see them, I doubt it.
13:29 All right, let's talk about who was in the courtroom today.
13:32 A very exciting photo went viral.
13:36 Looks like Mariah the Scientist is in the courtroom.
13:39 But see, the thing is,
13:40 Mariah has been in the courtroom for a while.
13:43 She's been there.
13:44 She's been in the courtroom supporting Jeffrey
13:48 since the beginning.
13:50 So I don't understand--
13:51 The infamous Sylvia camp for folks who,
13:53 that's the photo that's going viral,
13:55 with the infamous Sylvia camp.
13:57 And she's been there.
13:59 You said she's been there from day one.
14:00 From day one, and that's why I don't understand
14:03 why it's viral, because I've been seeing her since day one.
14:08 So--
14:09 And we've been talking about she's looking cute.
14:11 Today she looked like she was just kind of low-key.
14:13 She didn't look like she was too dressed up.
14:15 No, no, that's not today.
14:16 That's yesterday's photo.
14:17 That was yesterday.
14:18 Today she has on a little beret, her little hair is flipped.
14:22 She looks cute.
14:23 She has a little green.
14:25 Looks like her and Jeffrey's matching in the--
14:29 Oh, that's, look at you, twinning.
14:31 Twinning, twinning on the trial.
14:33 She has a beautiful pair of boots on.
14:36 The boots have, where the toes, you can see the,
14:38 like the toe slit and the--
14:39 See, there you go.
14:40 You need to be taking pictures of the fashion.
14:43 Did you know that?
14:44 You, you, you can't, they can't, they can't say nothing to you
14:46 about taking pictures of the, of the shoes and stuff.
14:50 You got to get the shoe cam out and be taking pictures
14:52 of the fashion.
14:53 The shoe cam, right?
14:54 Right, right.
14:56 So, so she and Thug are wearing, is it black and white
14:58 again today?
14:59 I know he's been wearing a lot of blue.
15:00 No, he has on green.
15:01 He has on a green, dark green suit.
15:03 Nice, and she's wearing green too?
15:06 Yeah, it looks like green, darkish color, yeah.
15:09 Oh, OK, they really trying, they really worked that out.
15:11 He goes to--
15:12 So probably for his, like, slime,
15:14 because you know he refers to himself as slime,
15:16 so I think that's probably why they did the whole green thing.
15:19 Oh, the greening.
15:20 Oh, look, look, you got the color slime on here too.
15:22 Look at your SOH.
15:24 That's true.
15:25 But I thought, I thought the slime was supposed to be red,
15:27 though.
15:28 The red is slime.
15:29 The slime is green.
15:30 No, slime is green.
15:31 OK, well, it depends on who's slime.
15:34 I mean, you know, the slime could be many colors, people.
15:37 All of our slime experts, everybody writing
15:39 your favorite color slime.
15:40 Well, we know most slime from Nickelodeon is always green.
15:43 That's true, that's true.
15:46 So yes, we, so today we are having a National Slime
15:49 Day, and Thug, you know, truly humble under God,
15:54 is wearing, along with Mariah, the scientist,
15:56 they're wearing their requisite green for National Slime Day.
16:00 Everybody's wearing that.
16:01 OK, and who else is there?
16:03 Who else was there?
16:04 His parents are there again?
16:05 Of course, his mom is there, his dad is there.
16:07 His dad is suited up, has a nice little tie on,
16:10 but he's not green.
16:11 He has a black.
16:12 OK, he didn't get the memo.
16:14 That was just for the 20.
16:15 He didn't get the memo.
16:16 OK, and any other celebrities?
16:19 Is Kevin Liles there?
16:20 Any other folks from the industry?
16:22 I'm not sure, because upstairs is
16:24 where they would be sitting for the general public.
16:27 So I don't know who's here.
16:29 I would love to get Kevin Liles on a conversation,
16:32 because he seems to have a lot to say.
16:33 And the last time--
16:35 and we will eventually get that footage--
16:37 the last time he spoke, and he really kind of shed a tear,
16:42 really saying, listen, you guys got it all wrong about this guy.
16:45 And I feel like he has a lot more to say,
16:47 so we'd love to see about getting him.
16:49 If you see him in the hallway, let
16:51 him know he needs to come and talk.
16:53 Absolutely, I'll do that.
16:55 Absolutely.
16:57 All right, anything else to report in this quick update?
16:59 We're going to come back again.
17:00 Now listen, guys, we keep talking about times.
17:03 This is not in our control.
17:05 Last night, you didn't get out until what, 9 o'clock?
17:08 9 o'clock?
17:08 Oh, it was 830-something.
17:10 Judge Glamgool is a maniac.
17:13 He is going hard.
17:14 He's like, y'all not going to keep me here for the whole year.
17:17 So he's having my favorite time.
17:18 Look, he was trying.
17:20 He tries.
17:20 But then, you guys, I know a lot of people do not agree with him.
17:25 But this man has a hard job.
17:27 And I definitely would not want to be him,
17:30 because I have a hard job with what I do.
17:32 And it's not much.
17:33 But with him, ooh, he has so many people looking at him.
17:37 And then he's being scrutinized.
17:38 And yeah, it's tough.
17:42 It's tough.
17:42 Are there any questions while we're talking, producer?
17:45 It is tough, because he is going to--
17:49 this is, again--
17:50 I don't know if judge positions are pointed there,
17:55 how those things work.
17:56 But you fumble a trial like this.
17:59 This is a very high-profile trial.
18:01 You fumble it, and there could be consequences.
18:05 So yeah, and he's wrangling six different attorneys-- well,
18:09 six different sets of attorneys, plus the state prosecutors,
18:12 plus all of the media and all of the other stuff.
18:14 So we want to cut him some slack.
18:16 But yeah, so I say that to say, we
18:19 are not sure what time you're going to get out today.
18:21 Based upon yesterday, it may be, again, 8 o'clock.
18:24 But we did go on late last night.
18:25 Don't say that.
18:26 Please don't say--
18:27 I know.
18:27 --take five.
18:28 Five, five, five.
18:29 Let's be-- let's be-- come on, judge.
18:31 Please, we need to get some rest.
18:33 So we will be back.
18:35 Put on your notifications.
