Do you care that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese broke his promise?
Transcript
00:00 They always break their promises
00:02 Every time so I guess if it's not gonna hurt the average Australian then great, but
00:09 Kind of get used to it. They just break them all the time. They just kind of
00:13 Put in all these policies and say they're gonna do things just get in and then as soon as they get in they kind of just
00:20 Change it all up anyway. No, I think that
00:22 It's a good thing to change things when things are different
00:27 I'd stick with something that might not work. There's something that can be better. I don't have a problem with him changing it. Yeah
00:34 Well, yeah, I care but I'm not surprised
00:37 Politicians do
00:41 They say one thing and then they do another
00:43 unfortunately, it's sort of
00:45 over the last few years, I guess it's
00:47 Nothing new really
00:51 It'll be much better if we had a prime minister that kept their promises
00:57 even though
00:58 I'm probably a really bad person to talk to at least since I'm really not into politics and stuff like that. But definitely
01:05 Yeah, it would be great. We had a promise to that kept promise. I do care. I think it's politically damaging and promises do
01:13 hold weight in the political arena, but I think that I
01:18 support the decision on the basis that
01:22 Things have changed since the Albanese government took office. That's very strong inflation environment compared to
01:27 Two years ago and that's gonna need you know a change as people, you know
01:34 Need to have the basics to get by. I definitely think it's a nice step to help
01:39 You know the average person that's not earning too much
01:45 But there could be more to be done. I guess I guess personally
01:50 It's good for me. But also I think yeah again if they've looked at something and think that this is better for the country
01:57 Then I'm happy for them to make changes
02:00 I think most people I know we better off but not everybody
02:05 But thinking about the people who would be more impacted by the the lower cuts
02:11 I
02:13 Actually don't think it would bother them too much
02:17 I think they probably think the same as me like oh, it's a shame not to get the extra money, but
02:22 Ultimately, this is what's got to be done
02:25 Look I think anything's a good thing if it's putting more money in the people that need it
02:33 You know
02:35 Just the way it is currently it's sort of the people that are really struggling with the cost of living
02:41 You know, they're getting reprimanded not reprimanded, but they're they're struggling, you know middle-income low-income people like myself and my husband
02:50 we've got three young children and
02:52 we
02:55 Struggling every single day with finances and we both work full-time. So there's something wrong
03:01 I don't feel that it's that negative like
03:06 People on a lower income sort of need that extra a little bit more whereas on the higher income
03:12 Losing a tiny bit of your tax cuts not gonna affect you as bad
03:16 Like it's it's not gonna make you very happy if you're expecting 9,000
03:21 But no 4,000 still a pretty good tax cut and then hopefully our low-income
03:27 makers in the ACT can sort of
03:31 Struggle a little bit less
03:34 challenging to weigh up
03:36 the trade-offs that governments have to make about
03:38 funding the tax cuts and absorbing some of the political pressure around the cost of living, but I think it's welcomed to
03:45 support that
03:47 change in terms of the challenges that a lot of people are facing and increase cost of living pressures and
03:53 wanting to ensure that people
03:55 Who need really need to help most are getting it but also ensuring that?
04:00 we are looking at the pressures that are a result of inflationary environment where people are
04:05 being knocked into higher tax brackets and having challenges in you know, making decisions about
04:11 you know investment and and production and making sure that we do have a solid tax base to continue to draw from
04:18 So I think that the measures are fairly sound. There's not a lot of
04:24 Distribution that will come from high-income earners compared to the benefits that will go to low-income earners
04:30 So definitely support this decision despite the political
04:33 backlash that the government will get
