The Alienware m16 R2 straddles the fence between gaming and productivity. Though it bears the hallmark Alienware logo and is bulkier than an ultraportable, this redesign of last year’s Alienware m16 is suitable for those who also want to use this machine for everyday computing.
Other than its sharp 16-inch display and Nvidia RTX 40-series GPU, the main draw is the inclusion of an Intel Core Ultra “Meteor Lake” processor. This chip’s NPU can perform AI-driven tasks faster than a processor lacking an NPU. In addition, pressing the F2 key instantly switches to productivity mode — which uses less power than performance mode.

The Alienware m16 R2 is an intriguing device since it can function as both a work and gaming laptop. Its relatively subdued design is also attractive. It could be one of the best laptops this year!

00:00 Hey guys, we're here with Dell at CES 2024 checking out the brand new Alienware M16
00:05 Though this is a gaming laptop. It has a very
00:09 Stealthy feature. Let's check it out. This is a laptop for gamers who don't want everybody to know that they're gaming
00:16 So if you're out and about you may not want all this RGB stuff going on
00:20 What's cool is now you click on the F2 key and all the keys just turn white RGB goes off
00:26 This Alienware logo shuts off which is kind of interesting and what's cool is when you hit F2 it also goes into
00:34 Regular mode basically goes to productivity mode turns off performance mode
00:38 So you have to you know use up so much power, which is really cool
00:41 But obviously if you're ready to play games and you know, you're not around anybody
00:46 Flip on F2 get the RGB back you get performance mode and it runs great graphics wise
00:53 We have up to an RTX 4070 GPU, which is plenty of power for modern games, which is great
00:59 But as I said, if you hit F2 turns off performance mode and we're just using the dedicated graphics
01:06 So you're not using up as much power, which is a really cool design
01:09 This model has removed the thermal shelf from the back which actually makes it smaller easier to carry it around
01:15 Which is obviously good
01:17 But other than that, it still retains the same basic design that all Alienware laptops are known for
01:22 It's still slightly heavy, but not too bad and because it's smaller
01:28 You actually lose some ports, but you still have all the main ones. You have HDMI you have an Ethernet and
01:34 Of course my personal favorite
01:37 USB a for legacy another design choice that's interesting is that because this isn't a dedicated gaming laptop
01:43 You could actually now turn the display
01:45 180 degrees so if you want to get comfortable on your couch with this you can no problem
01:51 It looks a little weird, but it's actually pretty cool. All right guys. So that was our first look at the Alienware m16 r2
01:57 I really like the new redesign, but I want to know what you think
02:00 So make sure you drop your comments down below and for everything else
02:03 CES make sure you follow Tom's guy at Instagram Facebook and tick-tock once again
02:09 I was Tony Puankel and I'll see you next time later
