Open d'Australie 2024 - Jannik Sinner in final : "It's a long way... "

Bluffant. Jannik Sinner a changé de dimension !

04:56 What do you think about the difference between the two teams?
04:59 He was also not moving that well.
05:03 I think he was also not that focused like we used to see him.
05:09 So I saw this.
05:11 But in another way, being number one, you have to be ready for that he changes things up.
05:17 And that he has done in the third set.
05:21 The level there was even.
05:27 He is also maybe the best returner we have in the game.
05:31 He didn't have one break point.
05:34 So these are stats that are unusual for him.
05:38 But in another way, this can happen.
05:44 In tennis, when you have a bad day, it's also tough to get out as a winner.
05:52 So I realized, especially in the first sets, he was not playing that great.
05:57 But I tried to have the intensity as high as possible.
06:01 And I took the chance.
06:04 Janek, you talked for several years now about being patient, about this process you're on.
06:11 Where did you learn that and how hard has it been for you to be patient?
06:18 To understand that you would steadily get better and that one day you might actually be here.
06:23 Because other people have gotten there before you.
06:26 Yeah, the patient can be your biggest enemy in one way.
06:32 Because if you're not that patient, you rush in one way.
06:44 And you forget maybe some steps that you should do to become a better player, to become better physically.
06:50 And then at some point, I don't know, I feel like the level we are seeing now from my side is because of a whole year of work.
07:02 And the process that we have made to become the best version of what I am right now.
07:10 And in other way, as I said, I still know that I can improve many things.
07:15 So my way is not finished yet.
07:20 But in other way, patience is not easy to handle.
07:27 It's also kind of practice in one way.
07:31 Last three.
07:37 Jaron Cale has been part of your coaching team.
07:40 His ability as a strategist is well known.
07:42 But does he also have a calming effect at this sort of stage of the tournament, given the experience he has with major winners and world number ones?
07:49 Yeah, for sure. He is always very relaxed.
07:53 Even this morning, we talk about normal things, not always about tennis.
08:01 But at least 20 minutes before the match, we talk about tactics, how to handle certain situations.
08:07 I think he helped not only me, but I think the whole team to believe in ourselves.
08:14 But also to enjoy, because we travel so much around the world.
08:22 And to enjoy the time together is really important.
08:29 The combination with him and also with Simone is awesome on the court.
08:36 And I think at the moment we are handling everything in the right way.
08:43 There is a stat that is driving me crazy. Carlos Alcarraz won Novak Djokovic on Wimbledon exactly 2,195 days after his last defeat there.
09:01 And now you have won Novak Djokovic on Australia exactly 2,195 days after his last defeat.
09:12 Do you think this victory was written somewhere or it was a day to won Novak?
09:17 If it would be that easy. I'm just watching some numbers.
09:25 Obviously, I don't know really what to answer on that.
09:33 I watched the match of Carlos. It was an incredible match there.
09:40 I don't know what to say.
09:45 Hi Janik. Obviously the big three have been so dominant at the Grand Slams.
09:52 I was just wondering, Carlos managing to win a couple, did that in any way encourage you that you could do it?
09:59 Or was there a match or a moment where you believed that you could win a Grand Slam?
10:06 I think you win the matches not only on that day.
10:17 You win it because you feel prepared for a good fight. You feel prepared mentally and also physically.
10:26 I think after last year, especially the end of the year, it gave me confidence that I could potentially do some good results in Grand Slams.
10:39 But in the other way, you still have to show it.
10:47 There are people who talk a lot, but you have to show it.
10:54 Because at the end of the day, you're going on the court and you have to play.
10:59 But if it's not this year, it's next year. And if it's not next year, it's the next year again.
11:08 I'm really relaxed, to be honest. I just try to work as hard as possible.
11:15 In my mind, I feel like the hard work always pays off in one way.
11:19 We are working really hard for our dreams.
11:23 If this can happen, it's good. If not, I gave 100 percent and the rest I cannot control.
11:31 Obviously, I'm really happy about Carlos, what he has made and what he's doing.
11:38 When we play against each other, it's always a good matchup.
11:46 But at the moment, we also have to say that he's further than I am.
11:52 He won many thousands of events, he won some slams already.
11:57 I have a lot of respect for him and I wish him all the best.
12:01 I wish you all the best.
12:02 (upbeat music)
