00:02 The beauty of data is central to the work of media artist
00:04 Rafik Anadol.
00:06 His art is exhibited in the world's most influential
00:08 museums.
00:09 It's also displayed on building facades and in public spaces.
00:15 I start imagining data as a pigment.
00:19 Data, for me, is not a number.
00:22 Data is a form of memory.
00:24 And this memory can take any shape and form.
00:26 Since 2016, Rafik Anadol has been using algorithms
00:30 to create monumental data sculptures that constantly
00:34 change shape.
00:34 My signature, I guess, aesthetic is the fluid dynamics.
00:38 And I love water and the movement in life.
00:41 And I believe that if data paint,
00:43 if one day data becomes a pigment, it won't dry.
00:46 It feels like water, always shape-shifting.
00:48 At the World Economic Forum in Davos,
00:51 Anadol's immersive artwork visualized the biodiversity
00:54 of the Amazon rainforest.
00:56 I know my capacity as a human.
00:58 I will never remember one million image of nature.
01:01 I will never remember half a million flowers of Amazonia.
01:04 But using AI allows me to go beyond my capacity.
01:08 Whether it's the biodiversity of the Amazon,
01:11 brainwaves, or observations collected by the US space
01:14 agency NASA, the data for Rafik Anadol's art
01:18 is always chosen with the installation site in mind.
01:22 For example, this project was created
01:25 using 45 terabytes of data from the Los Angeles Philharmonic's
01:29 digital archive.
01:30 It was projected onto the exterior of the concert hall.
