00:06 Auschwitz-Birkenau camp on Saturday, the 79th anniversary of its liberation.
00:12 In a modest and moving ceremony, about 20 survivors from various camps set up by the
00:17 Nazis around Europe laid wreaths and flowers and lit candles at the death wall.
00:24 Later the group gathered for a ceremony by a women's barracks.
00:28 Almost 1.1 million people were killed there, most of them Jews, as well as Roma, Polish
00:34 and Soviet prisoners.
00:36 Soviet Red Army soldiers liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau in January 1945.
00:42 There they found about 7,000 prisoners, including children and those who were too weak to walk.
00:51 Nearly 6 million Jews were killed by the Nazis.
