00:00 Toad was the last to be adopted. Come!
00:02 I'm Carly and this is Toad's story for GeoBeats. Toad's mom was pregnant in a shelter so a rescue
00:11 got her out. Do you want this treat? My mom fostered her and she ended up having 10 puppies
00:18 and Toad is one of those puppies. They all had homes and Toad was the last to be adopted.
00:25 I just ended up adopting him. Come here! He's just such a sweet little goofy dog.
00:30 He's like a gentle giant. What are you doing? Ready? Ready? What are you doing?
00:38 I was in school at the time. I got to walk him all around campus, all around town. It was very fun.
00:44 I was living in the dorms and I had one more semester and I literally abandoned my dorm
00:53 and bought an apartment off campus so I could get Toad. Good job, leave it.
00:56 Still, I had to pay for the dorm but I didn't even care.
01:01 My mom decided to keep Toad's mom so they've had playdates together.
01:20 They get so excited to see each other but then she moved out of state so they haven't seen each
01:24 other in a while. Toad is just a big baby. He thinks he's a lap dog even though he weighs 80
01:33 pounds. He's a very happy boy. He likes toys but I think he only likes them when he can destroy them
01:42 and when he can't destroy them he just gets bored by them. He's kind of easily scared like if we're
01:48 out for walks and he hears noises and it could literally be like a leaf crunching. He's also been
01:54 known to grunt his head in parked cars like he knows the cars are there. He doesn't have vision
01:59 problems but he would just walk right into cars like they weren't there. If people have holiday
02:04 decorations in their yards like those inflatables, he's scared of those or little lawn ornaments that
02:10 expand in a circle, he does not like those. But he's protective of me if people talk to me out on
02:17 walks. He's not a fan of that. He has to have a proper introduction before he can be around people.
02:26 He's great at the vet and when I bring people that he knows into my house he will go to the
02:30 door wiggling his tail like crazy. He's so happy. He's had lay dates with two of his litter mates.
02:41 They love each other. They get along great.
02:48 He has a really good friend who's a pug, a good friend who's a Boston Terrier,
02:55 so he loves little dogs, big dogs. He just needs a proper introduction like humans.
03:02 Link is a senior chihuahua mix that I got from the shelter and Toad was very excited when I
03:09 brought him home and they bonded so much. Toad has tried to play with Link and it's very cute,
03:15 but Link doesn't have an interest in playing with Toad.
03:18 Link is around 18 years old, a loner for the most part. He just wants to sleep or sniff around the
03:28 yard. Toad used to have separation anxiety when I moved us from our college apartment to my second
03:38 apartment. I don't think he has separation anxiety when I leave anymore, but if I leave the house
03:46 with Link I can hear him from the driveway, but if I leave without Link just by myself he's fine.
03:52 He's like my little baby because he was the first dog I've ever had that was 100%
03:56 mine, not like a family dog. So all of his care since I adopted him, everything's been me.
04:02 I'm definitely his person. I love him so much. I'm so glad he's my dog.
