Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens had a great season, but it ended unceremoniously. Should Jackson receive scrutiny?
Transcript
00:00 Lamar Jackson and the Ravens did not get it done.
00:02 Now look, I picked the Chiefs going into this game.
00:05 The outcome was not surprising to me.
00:08 Jackson did not have a good game, don't get me wrong.
00:11 But here's the thing, on the other side
00:13 is the measuring stick, and that's Patrick Mahomes.
00:15 And that's why I never thought the regular season success
00:18 made Lamar better than Mahomes or anything like that.
00:21 I still think Lamar is one of the better players
00:23 in the entire NFL.
00:25 He has come up short in the playoffs,
00:26 that's a fair thing to say.
00:28 But everybody but the team that wins it
00:30 comes up short in the playoffs.
00:32 True, but because this has been a narrative
00:36 with Lamar for so long, it's, man, it sucks.
00:40 This absolutely sucks because I wanna defend Lamar,
00:45 but it's hard to after that performance, man.
00:48 Because it's not like the Chiefs blew them out.
00:50 That game was winnable the entire game.
00:54 And all you wanted was for Lamar
00:57 to just, Lamar go make a play.
00:59 Lamar go make a play.
01:01 And it never happened.
01:02 And that interception in the end zone,
01:04 it's not defensive, right, it was triple covered.
01:07 He made, even when he put his hand up
01:10 as the signal that he was open, he was double covered.
01:13 I'm like, bro, come on, man.
01:15 And then they only called, I think, like two runs for him.
01:19 It's like they completely got out of what they do.
01:21 And I feel like I just watched the same script
01:24 with Buffalo, like, why is the moment too big
01:28 when Kansas City is on the other side of the field?
01:32 You've been the best team all year.
01:35 And I feel like y'all got away from what y'all do best.
01:36 And for Lamar, bro, you didn't even need
01:39 to have an A-plus game to win that game.
01:41 A C-plus, a B game, probably brings that home.
01:45 You play terrible.
01:47 I can't defend it, I can't defend it.
01:51 - And part of that was the Chiefs' defense, obviously.
01:53 Again, Lamar's a great player.
01:55 He's gonna eventually wind up in the Hall of Fame.
01:58 But if you're referencing the Buffalo game,
01:59 I will say this, Josh Allen was much better
02:02 in that Buffalo game against Kansas City
02:04 than Lamar Jackson was in that Ravens loss
02:07 against the Chiefs.
02:08 - Oh, of course, of course, of course.
02:09 I just meant more so like the moment for Buffalo
02:12 as a team seemed too big, much like the moment seemed too big
02:16 for Baltimore, even the penalty,
02:19 but the personal foul penalty
02:21 when you hit the offense alignment.
02:23 I'm like, come on, bro.
02:24 Like as a squad, y'all look like y'all
02:25 wasn't ready for the moment.
02:26 But for Lamar, knowing what the narrative
02:29 had been about you and your lack of playoff success,
02:32 you're gonna win MVP this year.
02:34 You are up against the guy that's the one person
02:37 that's consistently going to be in your way
02:39 in a game that y'all should and could have won.
02:43 Like, it wasn't, Pat was good,
02:44 but it's not like Pat was otherworldly.
02:46 It scored 17.
02:48 I'm just like, come on, man.
02:49 This game is begging for you to show your MVP ability
02:53 and it never happened.
02:54 And that's just like, for anybody that criticizes Lamar
02:57 today, you're right.
02:59 (door slams)
