Russia's election commission formally registered President Vladimir Putin as a candidate for the March 2024 presidential election on Monday. Putin is running as an independent candidate rather than through United Russia, which nominated him previously. Putin's approval ratings are around 80%, higher than United Russia, which is seen as part of the state bureaucracy. Three other candidates from pro-Kremlin parties were also approved without needing signatures.
