00:00 Taiwan is conducting a variety of military exercises around the country ahead of the
00:06 Lunar New Year to demonstrate its combat readiness.
00:09 This army base in Taitung is hosting one of the country's most practiced drills, which
00:13 simulates a sudden attack by an enemy.
00:15 A team in red is on offense.
00:17 They pretend to be an enemy and try to invade the base as quickly as possible using motorcycles
00:22 and jeeps.
00:23 Now, it's the blue team's job to be on defense.
00:25 They use a combination of armored vehicles, tanks, and anti-aircraft guns to not only
00:30 defend against the attack, but also to prevent another.
00:33 "We conduct a drill to counter-invade by using tactical maneuvering, surpassing attacks,
00:40 and field maintenance, as well as reconnaissance and combat readiness to demonstrate the results
00:43 of our troops' daily training.
00:45 In the face of the increasing threat from the enemy, the army is constantly improving
00:50 and improving in training."
00:55 These exercises have gotten more common as China, which threatens to invade Taiwan, has
00:59 continued to operate military aircraft and warships around the country.
01:03 So the idea here is that these drills help the military stay alert and ready for whatever
01:07 threatens the country.
