00:21 Hi, hi, hi, welcome back to Women's Talks.
00:23 I'm Prisomodatu, and I'm glad to see you again
00:26 in a program that will inspire Indonesian women wherever they are.
00:31 This time we will talk with a woman who has a career in BUMN.
00:36 Who is she? Follow me on Women's Talks IDX channel.
00:41 [MUSIC]
00:53 Hello, Mrs. Maya. / Hello, Mrs. Prisa. How are you?
00:56 I'm fine. / You look gorgeous.
00:58 Thank you for giving us your time in Women's Talks.
01:02 Let me introduce you, Mrs. Maya Watono.
01:04 You are the Director of Marketing and Tourism Program
01:09 of Injourney with the tagline "Living Legacy".
01:15 So, this is the office of Injourney.
01:18 The main office is here. / Yes, in Sarinah, on the 14th floor.
01:21 How many people are there?
01:23 In total, Injourney Group with 6 employees in various tourism sector,
01:28 we have 30,000 people.
01:30 But in this office, we only have 70 people.
01:34 70 people in Injourney office.
01:36 Because we are the strategic holding of BUMN in tourism and aviation.
01:40 So, even though we have 70 people,
01:42 we are all experts in this field.
01:45 But also, for the whole staff, we have 30,000 people.
01:50 To know more about Injourney,
01:53 and what you are responsible for,
01:57 we should talk in Menayanang.
01:59 Can we go there, Mrs. Prisa?
02:01 Let's go.
02:02 PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia or Injourney
02:12 says that the tourism industry
02:14 is not only based on the promotion of tourism,
02:17 but also needs to develop tourism destinations.
02:21 Where the development needs to be done during the pandemic,
02:25 people's recreational patterns still want to visit directly,
02:29 and feel the experience at certain tourist destinations.
02:32 As the holding BUMN in the tourism and aviation industry,
02:39 Injourney is actively involved in the development and activation of tourism destinations,
02:44 especially in 5 super priority tourist destinations or DPSP,
02:48 including Labuan Bajo, Likupang, Burobudur, Danautoba, and Mandalika.
02:55 So, what is the strategy of Injourney
02:59 in promoting the development of the aviation and tourism industry in Indonesia?
03:04 Let's see the discussion with the Director of Marketing and Tourism Program Injourney,
03:09 Maya Watono, only on Women's Talk.
03:12 Women's Talk
03:13 Now, it's more comfortable to talk with Maya Watono,
03:21 Director of Marketing and Tourism Program Injourney.
03:25 When did you start collaborating with Injourney?
03:30 I started collaborating on 13 January 2022.
03:34 It was the first day of Injourney.
03:38 So, it's been 2 years.
03:42 At that time, it was inaugurated by President Jokowi in Mandalika.
03:47 We are the strategic holding BUMN in the tourism and aviation industry.
03:52 And it was the only holding BUMN that was inaugurated by the President.
03:59 It was inaugurated directly in Mandalika.
04:02 And it's because of how important this tourism sector is for Indonesia.
04:07 Injourney was established 2 years ago with 2 objectives.
04:12 The first one is accelerating the tourism sector post-pandemic.
04:17 The second one is integrating tourism ecosystem into one from the upstream.
04:23 Where the tourism assets that we have can be integrated.
04:28 So, we have an airport under Injourney.
04:32 We have an airport merger, Angkasa Pura Indonesia.
04:37 It was inaugurated on 28 December 2023.
04:41 We integrated it into one.
04:44 We also have Injourney Aviation Service.
04:47 We launched it on 28 December 2023.
04:52 We have the airport sector and service for aviation.
04:57 We also have ITDC, which is Tourism Development.
05:01 We develop the priority destinations in Indonesia.
05:05 We also have TWC, which is the heritage and asset of tourism in Indonesia.
05:13 We have Borobudur, Prambanan, which we have revitalized.
05:18 We also have Taman Mini, Ratu Moko, and so on.
05:21 We also have SARINAH, which is Retail Operator Arm.
05:27 For Indonesian SMEs to elevate Indonesian brands to the world level.
05:32 We also have HIN, Indonesia Nature Hotel.
05:37 Which is responsible for maintaining government hotels.
05:42 Especially, the government's heritage hotels.
05:45 So, from all sectors, from airport to retail, destination development,
05:52 heritage management, or destination attraction management,
05:56 to hotels. We take care of all of them.
05:59 And the projects are also interesting.
06:02 So, Mrs. Maya, BUMN holds aviation and tourism.
06:10 So, there are many, from hotels to Taman Mini, malls, airports.
06:17 How many companies are there?
06:19 We have 6 companies.
06:22 6 companies, which are Akasa Purwa Indonesia, Injurney Aviation Service,
06:26 ITDC, TWC, SARINAH, and HIN.
06:30 6 different sectors. So, we are a multi-sector.
06:33 And the hope is that these 6 multi-sectors are combined to form a powerful holding.
06:38 This is a tourism ecosystem that is very strong from the integration from the islands.
06:43 And this will also be the largest in Asia.
06:45 If this integration happens completely in 2024,
06:49 this will be the largest holding in Asia for tourism sector.
06:53 Because we know that the potential of Indonesian tourism is still very much
06:57 can be developed, still very big, still very much developed.
07:00 If we know from our GDP contribution, it is at around 4%.
07:05 While our neighboring countries, such as Thailand, are at around 21%.
07:09 So, the potential growth of tourism as a sector of the Indonesian economy is still very big.
07:17 So, let's start from there.
07:18 Why Injurney was formed and officially by President Jokowi in 2022?
07:25 But actually, there is a question for those who are still public.
07:29 Because Injurney is still relatively new, only 2 years.
07:32 We already have a Ministry of Tourism.
07:36 What's the difference?
07:38 Why must it be formed again or there is Injurney?
07:42 Injurney is under the Ministry of Tourism, which is our business body.
07:47 As a business body, we also have a duty to maintain financial health
07:54 of all companies under Injurney.
07:56 That's also as a corporation versus Ministry and agency.
08:01 Of course, we have to collaborate with various ministries and agencies
08:06 in the tourism sector, not just the Ministry of Tourism.
08:09 We are very close to the Ministry of Tourism,
08:12 because we do various initiatives with the Ministry of Tourism.
08:17 Then, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing for infrastructure,
08:22 Ministry of Commerce.
08:23 So, there are many ministries and agencies,
08:26 as well as regional governments and provinces,
08:28 that we have to work with for a concerted effort,
08:34 a holistic tourism effort that has not been done to the maximum.
08:39 If this concerted holistic effort can be maximized,
08:43 Indonesian tourism will also be very powerful.
08:46 Okay, that means there are many collaborations with ministries and agencies.
08:54 I was in an event from Injurney last year,
08:59 at Kemenkomar Fest.
09:03 Jalan Otoba.
09:05 Yes, and it turned out that this was brought by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing,
09:09 but there is also a tourism sector,
09:11 which means there is also a connection with the Ministry of Tourism.
09:13 There are many stakeholders.
09:16 It's a chance, actually a challenge.
09:20 If we look at it, this tourism sector is definitely multi-sector.
09:27 There are many sectors that are affected in this tourism sector,
09:30 and how can we manage all the stakeholders?
09:33 Not only from the Ministry of Tourism and the agencies,
09:35 but also from the private sector, even the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing.
09:38 How do you manage it?
09:40 To manage it, we actually have to create a blueprint.
09:44 A sustainable tourism blueprint for the future.
09:47 Because we can't work without a master plan or blueprint
09:51 for every destination we have.
09:55 Indonesia's tourism asset index is the largest in Southeast Asia.
09:58 But unfortunately, when we convert it to travel,
10:01 we are ranked number 5.
10:03 So from number 1 to number 5.
10:05 So we know that our tourism potential is not yet maximum.
10:08 And how can we maximize this tourism potential
10:11 if we don't work in a concepted effort?
10:14 This is what we have to do in the form of a master plan or blueprint.
10:19 The government itself has 5 priority destinations that have been set by the government
10:23 as a tourist destination that is necessary to be developed.
10:28 One is Mandalika.
10:30 The second is Danau Toba.
10:32 The third is Borobudur.
10:34 Or the ecosystem of Central Java, Joglos Lemar.
10:38 Then we have Jogja-Solos Semarang.
10:41 And then we have Likupang and Labuan Bajo.
10:47 We develop each destination in an integrated way.
10:52 And of course, we put effort into marketing the destination.
10:56 That's what we have to do together.
11:00 But if we talk about tourism, it seems exciting.
11:04 But it turns out that there are quite a lot of tasks.
11:07 What other events will be held in 2024 to promote our tourism?
11:13 We will discuss it later.
11:15 And what is the main task of Maya Watono?
11:22 She seems very busy. Let's talk about it first.
11:25 And the host of Jalan Kemana-mana, stay with us.
11:28 Jalan Kemana-mana, Jalan Kemana-mana, Jalan Kemana-mana
11:38 Thank you, Mr. Mirza Wim Hansak, for being with us.
11:41 We are still talking with the director of marketing and tourism program in Journey, Maya Watono.
11:47 Maya, you joined us from the beginning.
11:51 How did you join us in Journey?
11:55 I joined Journey because I have BUMN, but I was still thinking about how to join.
12:06 BUMN is in the period of Mr. Erick and Mr. Wamen Tiko.
12:14 We have a clusterization, holdingization.
12:18 For tourism sector, we have strategic holding from tourism and aviation.
12:25 The difference with other holding is that this is multi-sector.
12:30 So, there are challenges because various sectors are combined with tourism.
12:35 I was asked by Mr. Erick and Mr. Tiko to join me from private sector.
12:43 I was the CEO of Densu, the biggest advertising agency in Indonesia.
12:48 I was the first woman in Densu to be the local CEO.
12:56 I was the first woman in the multinational, from outside.
13:02 I was 40 years old at that time.
13:04 Maybe Mr. Erick and Mr. Tiko were looking for someone from outside to provide fresh blood for BUMN.
13:13 Mr. Donny Oskaria was also in our group from the outside sector, from CT Cops.
13:20 This is a team of BOD-BOC from various backgrounds who built this In Journey.
13:29 It was very interesting because we didn't have a vision of where we wanted to go.
13:39 How we wanted to go, but after two years of traveling,
13:43 we know how far we can take this Indonesian tourism.
13:50 Indonesian tourism is very interesting and has a great potential to be a national economic movement.
13:57 When you first joined, In Journey was just formed.
14:02 In your opinion, what was Maya Watono like?
14:06 Her aviation skills and our tourism compared to after two years of traveling.
14:12 At first, we still saw the situation.
14:18 It was also post-pandemic, where the tourism sector was very affected.
14:23 We had to recover faster and use this recovery momentum to build.
14:30 So we can make tourism a big thing in Indonesia.
14:35 If we look at the employment, tourism has a potential to employ 30 million or 25%.
14:43 Domestic and international tourism movements also have great potential to contribute to the GDP.
14:52 We know that there is a potential.
14:55 Then, where we are, where we were, where we want to be.
14:59 That's why I said that the blueprint and master plan must be made.
15:03 So we know the milestones that we have to achieve to reach the point that we want for Indonesian tourism.
15:12 Is this blueprint being chased or will be completed?
15:16 There must be a lot of it, what is the big line?
15:20 We are currently working on 40 live projects.
15:26 And various priority projects.
15:29 Some projects, events, and destination security.
15:33 Maybe you are aware of what we have done in Danau Toba, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, Bali, and various priority destinations.
15:44 But also in our assets, it has happened in the last two years at a fairly aggressive speed.
15:51 But we do have priorities ahead, several priority projects that we have to finish in the next nine months.
16:01 At least to provide a foundation for the sustainability of Indonesian tourism.
16:08 So we do have a project that is ongoing and quite a mega project.
16:14 This is the Sanur Special Economic Area.
16:17 Where this is a special economic area for medical, health, and tourism.
16:23 So with this special economic area, this is a quantum leap for Indonesia.
16:29 From the tourism side but also from the health side.
16:32 Because this is a special economic area where there will be an international hospital.
16:38 Along with an international clinic with a center of excellence from all over the world.
16:43 And there is also a heritage hotel, Bali Beach Hotel, which we revitalized before.
16:50 Then there is also a resort and a convention center.
16:54 This is a 40 hectare area where it is fully dedicated for medical tourism.
17:00 And this will bring our quantum leap in medical, health, and tourism to a much higher level.
17:07 For Indonesians who are abroad, we have a deficit outflow of 90 trillion.
17:15 If we can curb the deficit outflow, even half of it, 45 trillion, it is already very beneficial for Indonesia.
17:22 That's also what President Jokowi said.
17:25 If possible, we should also increase the number of medical tourism in the country.
17:31 Then, Ibu Maya, it's been two years since you felt like you were the leader of Densu.
17:39 Compared to BUMN, which was still in a very low position.
17:43 Is there a significant difference in the work in these two places?
17:47 Of course there is a significant difference.
17:50 But for me personally, this is a guarantee.
17:54 And when asked by Mr. Tiko and Mr. Erik,
17:59 even though it took a long time,
18:04 because of various considerations,
18:06 I feel that at BUMN we can make a real contribution to the country.
18:11 And that is an extraordinary achievement that cannot be paid for with anything.
18:17 What we see, we feel, and what we do will be a legacy.
18:21 There is pride in itself.
18:24 Especially if it is a success and Indonesian tourism is thriving and has an impact on MSMEs around.
18:30 Correct, for Indonesia's economy.
18:32 What is the timing like?
18:33 Because we came here, busy with meetings,
18:35 after this, it seems like we still have to have another meeting.
18:37 Maybe we have to go out of town.
18:39 Because tourism is everywhere.
18:41 We will discuss it in the last segment.
18:43 We also have to go first.
18:45 Okay, until next time, don't go anywhere.
18:47 We will be back with one last segment.
18:50 [Music]
19:00 Thank you, Mr. Mir, for joining us again.
19:02 And we are in the last segment of Women on Strike,
19:04 still with the beautiful lady, Maya Watono from Injourney.
19:09 This October, we will have a new leader.
19:16 When a new president and vice president,
19:20 there is usually a dynamic.
19:23 What will it be like?
19:26 This is an interesting question.
19:28 If I am humble, I am a professional.
19:34 I will be professional until the end.
19:37 Because I also work, I want to give the best to the nation and the country.
19:42 And I see that the momentum of our country, Indonesia,
19:47 is the right momentum to give the best to the nation,
19:51 to last the next 5-10 years.
19:54 So this is the right time and place for us to contribute the best for the nation.
20:02 So if you ask me what's next,
20:06 I think I'm just professional until the end and can give the best.
20:11 And something that is sustainable and lasting for the next generation.
20:16 The target from what Maya said,
20:21 and it seems like you are very busy.
20:23 Do you still have time to share?
20:26 And usually, what do you do when you share time?
20:29 Of course, sharing time is difficult.
20:34 I mean, we are realistic.
20:36 I think as a woman, if we say it's easy, it's also a lie.
20:42 So it's actually difficult as a woman to share time as a professional,
20:50 and also as a mother, wife, as a social being, as a person, me.
20:58 It's a ball that we have to juggle.
21:03 And at any given time, I think we can't expect that everything is perfect.
21:08 All the 4-5 balls that we have to juggle, the squares that we have to juggle, are perfect.
21:15 There must be a point where,
21:17 right now we are busy with a lot of homework,
21:22 whether we want it or not, there are balls that we have to do.
21:27 The point is, I think as a woman, at any given time, it's not balanced.
21:34 But overall, your life has to have that balance.
21:37 But it's not acceptable to protest like that,
21:39 from maybe children, or a partner.
21:43 We have to have a strong support system.
21:47 And we also have to manage ourselves as well as possible.
21:51 So, for example, on weekends, I also try to be with my children,
21:55 paying full attention, not playing with my phone.
21:59 I have 3 children, and relatively, teenagers,
22:03 the youngest is 8, 12, 13 years old.
22:07 Oh really?
22:08 Yes, so we spend time, and we see them grow,
22:13 and adjust to their milestones as well.
22:16 That's also very important.
22:18 Okay, as a marketing director,
22:22 and also a tourist, from your own journey,
22:27 what is it, what is it,
22:30 what kind of quote or principle,
22:36 in running a career, or maybe daily life,
22:40 that can be an inspiration for me and also for you?
22:43 If for work, for a career,
22:47 if I, the principle, that's my motivation,
22:50 because I want to give the best.
22:53 Coincidentally, right now, wherever I am,
22:55 maybe in the previous company, and so on,
22:58 now is to the nation.
23:00 Coincidentally, the scope is also extraordinary,
23:02 this is very big, in my opinion, this is a privilege,
23:04 for me to be in this position,
23:06 and give what I think is the best, for the nation.
23:11 So, and I think it's for a life legacy.
23:16 If we work, I think we work,
23:20 we can't just do it randomly,
23:22 we have to work to build something that has a lasting impact,
23:26 for ourselves, and also for our team.
23:30 So, build something that lasts.
23:32 That's why, if you see the motto, honestly,
23:34 it's also a living legacy.
23:36 We leave a legacy for our grandchildren,
23:39 for 5, 10 years, maybe 20 years ahead.
23:42 That's a driver for us to work.
23:46 For personally, maybe the message is,
23:49 try to keep the balance,
23:51 don't be too,
23:53 girls are usually a bit hard on ourselves,
23:58 that, "Oh, it has to be like this, it has to be like that,
24:00 people will see it like this, like that."
24:02 Sometimes people see it as, "Ambitious."
24:04 Yes, so in my opinion,
24:07 just be yourself, in that sense.
24:10 And balance is necessary,
24:12 but it doesn't have to be forced,
24:14 everything has to be perfect, at any given time.
24:17 So, overall balance of life,
24:19 we can achieve it,
24:22 if we also nurture ourselves,
24:26 and our family, and our support system around us.
24:30 Whatever that form is.
24:31 Good luck for you, Maewa Tono,
24:33 and also the team, wherever you are,
24:35 whether it's still in Injourney,
24:37 or wherever,
24:40 always leave a legacy,
24:44 that is useful for the nation,
24:46 and of course, for all of us.
24:48 Thank you, Ibu Maya, see you again.
24:50 Thank you, Mbak Prisat.
24:52 And that's it, this time,
24:54 hopefully it can be a reference,
24:55 a source of information for your career,
24:57 or maybe your business,
24:59 your opinion,
25:00 I'm Prisat Sombodan,
25:01 I'll take my leave,
25:02 see you again, bye-bye.
25:04 Thank you so much, Mbak Prisat.
25:07 Good luck.
