00:00 A new blow for Amélie Oudéa Castera, one of the highest-ranking members of the National Education Board,
00:04 the rector of Paris, has resigned, a very rare decision,
00:08 after the choice of the Ministry of Education to grant a moratorium on part of its reform of the prepa classes,
00:12 intended to introduce more social mixity.
00:15 "I leave today, Friday, my functions as rector of the Academy of Paris,
00:20 when our school is in doubt, and the situation requires the mobilization of each of its actors,"
00:25 wrote former rector Christophe Quérérot on Friday in a letter to the Academy staff.
00:31 This resignation comes after the suspension on Wednesday by the rue de Grenelle of a project of the rectorate
00:36 aimed at closing several preparatory classes at the start of 2024 to open three others for the most social,
00:42 one at the Henri IV high school for future teachers and two for professional high school students.
00:47 According to a source close to the rectorate, Mr. Quérérot could not continue to carry the school card
00:52 after Minister Oudéa Castérat disavowed it without warning it in an instance that is the Higher Council of Education.
00:59 The announcement comes on the back of speculation around the maintenance of Amélie Oudéa Castérat's post.
01:04 A few days before a new nomination to complete the government and after a series of controversies
01:08 aimed at the new Minister of National Education, author of controversial statements on public schools,
01:14 a close friend of Emmanuel Macron was confident.
01:17 "Madame Oudéa Castérat is there to run a program and a nuclear bed," he explained.
01:23 "She knew how to do it in sports.
01:25 She's a fighter, humanly it's hard, but she resists.
01:29 The vast majority of deputies, Renaissance, have let her go and think it's over,"
01:33 said, on the other hand, a majority framework.
01:37 But the psychology of President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron is still unsound.
01:43 Very smart who knows.
01:45 The day after a strike that mobilized a teacher out of five against the school policy of the executive,
01:50 an inter-union SNES-FSU, CGT and SUD called for a new strike on February 6.
01:56 Oudéa Castérat took action.
01:58 Interrogated on TF1, before the announcement of Christophe Quérérot,
02:01 the minister assured not to disavow, but to resign.
02:06 She then took action to dismiss the director in a message on X, ex-Twitter,
02:10 saluting his exemplary career and his commitment to social diversity.
02:15 "We will continue, as I am committed to it,
02:18 all the projects that he has driven in favor of equality of opportunities," wrote the minister.
02:23 All measures of support for students in terms of promotion and social diversity
02:27 taken by the rector of Paris are supported and financed, according to the minister's entourage.
02:32 The Paris rectorate had considered three class closures to finance these initiatives.
02:37 The minister took the liberty of launching a moratorium on these closures,
02:41 and thus further supporting the rectorate's social project and the existing offer,
02:45 to which she complied.
02:47 Mr. Quérérot, former director of Jean-Michel Blanquet,
02:50 has been rector of the Paris Academy since July 2020.
02:54 That the minister is cutting the national class map is part of her prerogatives,
03:00 but it could have been done differently,
03:02 reacted to the AFP Sophie Vénétité, general secretary of the SNES-FSU for colleges and high schools.
03:08 "Choix le saint!"
03:10 Jean-Rémi Girard, from the SNALC, confirms,
03:13 "The resignation is a very rare act at this post.
03:16 We understand that if he felt disavowed, he should leave.
03:19 It even seems holy to us for a high-ranking official to do that.
03:23 New hard blow for Madame Oudéa Castera?
03:26 It is certainly one more stone in the garden for the minister.
03:30 A resignation of a rector, it is very strong," added Sophie Vénétité.
03:34 In a statement, the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo,
03:38 praised her "exceptional contribution to the public service of education".
03:42 The president-elector of the Isle of France, Valérie Pécresse,
03:46 regretted a "very big loss" for the region.
03:49 The rectorate had decided to close three preparatory classes at the CPEGE high schools,
03:53 in three Parisian establishments,
03:55 arousing the mobilization of teachers and students,
03:57 with a petition against the fragilization of literary careers.
