Gonzaga coach Mark Few addressed the media after the Bulldogs' 64-62 loss to the Gaels on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024.
Transcript
00:00 >> Mark, just general thoughts down the stretch there, what did you see?
00:05 >> Just a couple of,
00:11 they had a couple of really, really tough shots at the end of the clocks.
00:16 And it was hard for us to generate any kind of baskets.
00:21 Took a couple of thought kind of panicky shots there,
00:27 a little bit in that stretch with the guards going downhill.
00:30 But they had been rock solid all night, and
00:31 we actually had some good looks, B-Ups three was kind of in and out.
00:34 But hey, that's the end of the game, guys gotta step up and make shots.
00:39 And they were able to get on a little run when we took Ram out of there.
00:45 I thought that was kind of a big key.
00:47 We tried to protect him at four and they went right at us.
00:50 Got some baskets that kind of ended up providing the separation.

01:00 >> How tough is it to battle like that all night,
01:02 battle the way you have this season and just come up on the wrong end of it?
01:06 >> Yeah, it's not fun.
01:07 Obviously, you know that, you can feel that, sense it.
01:11 Everybody feels it, but it's the beauty of athletics.
01:14 Another one coming in a couple days, and you gotta get geared up.
01:19 And we did a great job.
01:22 That was a great college basketball atmosphere,
01:24 it was a great college basketball game.
01:27 The guys competed.
01:28 I mean, the fact that we beat one of the best rebounding teams in the country on
01:32 the glass, took pretty darn good care of the ball.
01:35 We did a lot of good things tonight.
01:38 We just couldn't quite win that last four minutes.
01:43 >> You think some of that had to do with maybe a lot of starters playing heavy
01:46 minutes that entire second half?
01:47 >> They literally played heavy minutes all year.
01:50 I don't know if we've had a game with more stoppage than we won tonight.
01:53 So, I mean, that's who we are.
01:56 That's really who we are.
01:58 And I burned every time out I had.
02:00 So that's just kinda who we are.
02:03 >> Mark, talking about the stoppage,
02:06 there was obviously a ton of reviews at the end of the game there.
02:09 >> Right, which should rest everybody fairly well.
02:12 >> [LAUGH] >> Have you ever been a part of that many?
02:15 >> No, it just seems like we're having more and more of those.
02:19 They're just trying to get it right, and that's what you want.
02:21 You just want to get it right.
02:22 So that's a hard game to officiate right there.
02:25 Those are two teams that are going at it.
02:28 They're physical.
02:29 I thought they did a nice job of just calling the ones they needed to call and
02:34 letting the guys play.
02:36 >> When they explained the three by Marcellones, they let Stan,
02:41 did they tell you, we could tell it was out of Mahaney's hands in time to save it?
02:47 Or was it just we didn't have a great angle on it?
02:51 >> They said it wasn't reviewable, and no, so that's not reviewable.
02:57 So I don't know that part.
03:00 You guys probably watched it.
03:02 Obviously, we're not out, so I don't know.
03:03 I don't know what transpired there.
03:07 [BLANK_AUDIO]
03:12 >> Just how important is it to just turn the page next week with a Wednesday game
03:16 and then go into Kentucky?
03:17 >> Yeah, no, very important, obviously.
03:19 We got some great games in front of us coming down the tracks.
03:24 And so again, that's the great thing about athletics.
03:29 And you got to get the bad taste out of your mouth.
03:33 And the goal this week, and what I'll try to do is have them remember the good plays.
03:39 They made a lot of them tonight.
03:41 And then just wash the other ones away,
03:45 get ready to go out and get a win on Wednesday.
03:49 >> Mark, has the Jefferson kid kind of changed them a little bit,
03:52 given them a guy they can iso with?
03:54 >> I mean, yeah, I mean, it's funny.
03:57 I mean, some of those guys were just not very good early.
04:00 And now they're shooting the ball so much better.
04:03 Jefferson's made a huge jump in his game.
04:06 Obviously, martial artists, you can see how good he is and how crafty he is,
04:10 how strong he is, how tough he is.
04:13 Mahaney, I think, was struggling a little bit on three coming into this.
04:17 And obviously stepped up, he was in four from ten tonight.
04:21 So yeah, obviously getting the scoring out of Jefferson helps a lot.
04:27 [BLANK_AUDIO]
04:30 >> Any more for coach?
