00:19 It's Tuesday, February 6th and we're kicking off Billboard News by breaking
00:26 down all the latest on Taylor's new album.
00:29 Taylor Swift drops the tracklist for her brand new album and it packs some star power.
00:34 And the fan theories are already floating. Let's break it down Swifties.
00:38 My brand new album
00:40 comes out April 19th. It's called the Tortured Poets Department.
00:49 The brand new album is just a few months away.
00:53 And today we received the tracklist with song titles like "Down Bad" and "But Daddy I Love Him."
00:59 I see you Ariel reference.
01:01 And it features artists like Post Malone on Fortnite and Florence the Machine on Florida
01:06 with three exclamation marks.
01:08 And with tracks like "So Long London" and "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived"
01:12 fans think the album will be about her breakup to British boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn.
01:17 And there's other things they pointed out about the April 19th release date.
01:21 It's the same day last year Taylor went to dinner with friends
01:24 Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively and they unfollowed Joe on Instagram.
01:28 It's also the day in 1775 that British and American soldiers exchanged fire
01:33 in the Massachusetts towns of Lexington and Concord.
01:36 Starting the Revolutionary War? Never a slow day as a fan of Taylor Swift.
01:42 While Taylor's touring Asia you have so many chances to see her faves all over the world.
01:47 It's time to emancipate Mimi again as Usher goes from the Super Bowl to the road
01:52 and Adele is extending her live shows. All in today's tour update.
01:57 She's not just a Christmas queen.
02:03 The chart queen Mariah Carey is returning to Vegas for the celebration of Mimi.
02:07 April 12th through April 27th at Dobie Live in Park MGM.
02:12 "Morning fan favorites from the emancipation of Mimi and beyond."
02:16 Emancipation Packs hits like "We Belong Together,"
02:18 "Shake It Off," "It's Like That" and "Don't Forget About Us."
02:22 And we would never forget about Usher who after conquering Vegas himself
02:32 has announced the 24-date Usher Past, Present and Future tour
02:36 to promote his upcoming album "Coming Home" which drops Friday,
02:39 just days before he headlines the Super Bowl 58 halftime show.
02:43 Adele has also left Vegas to head to Munich for a summer run of shows
02:48 and now more fans have a chance to see her.
02:50 After initially announcing four exclusive dates then quickly doubling that commitment,
02:54 she has now added two final shows slated to take place on August 30th and 31st.
03:00 I had the immense pleasure of sitting down with Teddy Swims as he's climbing the Billboard Hot 100.
03:06 "I felt like when we recorded it, when we first wrote it, I felt like,
03:09 oh this is going to change my life. You just had that feeling, you know?
03:12 And it's one of the first times I've really had that feeling of like,
03:16 oh this is going to change my life. I just know it is.
03:18 And I mean, I'm happy that I get to, I guess it makes the pain I went through super necessary.
03:25 You know, I'm super grateful that now that that person broke my heart, you know, and shattered it.
03:31 And I think it's so great to know that pain is necessary because it got me to this place.
03:36 And you know, pain is paying the bills still. So...
03:39 Pain is paying the bills.
03:40 You know what I mean? It sure is. And I mean, I'm trying to not be like,
03:44 I'm not trying to, I'm trying to stop putting myself in positions to get hurt and pay the bills
03:49 because you don't always have to do that. But thankful that this one is, you know,
03:52 they say the best revenge is success. So there you have it, you know?
03:56 And for the listeners out there that are connecting with the song, like,
03:58 tell me a little bit about the story behind this because there's substance abuse.
04:02 There's obviously, you know, deeper meanings to what "Lose Control" is all about.
04:06 Well, you know, I felt like we got very codependent and to talk about this first,
04:09 that I always make sure I say, like, we're both better off, we're doing well,
04:13 and there's no bad blood about any of it. But, you know, I just, you know,
04:17 when you're with somebody and you're in a situation like that, I felt like we were,
04:20 we're just kind of codependent on our lifestyle. We're living together.
04:23 And it was hard for us to break away from that lifestyle. We're living together and
04:26 feeling like there was no way out. And sometimes you love somebody so much, there's just not,
04:30 you just don't belong together. And as cliche as it is, you know, love something,
04:35 you really got to let it go. And we both are better off without each other.
04:38 And that was the hardest thing about that relationship was, you know, continuing to keep
04:44 the, I guess there's like a diminished returns on those kinds of love, you know, on those,
04:51 the oxytocin and the dopamine rushes of the highs we had together. And I feel like that just kind of
04:57 became our lifestyle together. And our lifestyle became something that was, can't last forever.
05:02 You know, you can't have that and this together. It's just, you become enabling each other.
05:08 And that's kind of what we were doing there. And I feel very, very grateful now to see
05:13 both of us succeeding in our own ways and, and being better not together, you know, and it's,
05:18 that's a rough, that's a rough reality, but it's true.
05:21 And for the full interview head to Billboard.com.
05:31 Country legend Toby Keith has died at the age of 62.
05:35 Toby Keith's family released a statement letting fans know the singer passed away
05:46 peacefully last night, surrounded by his family after battling stomach cancer.
05:57 Toby made not only a huge pack on country music with 20 number one hits on the Hot Country Songs
06:03 chart and the Country Airplay chart, but on the music industry in general, charting 39 Billboard
06:08 Hot 100 hits with four of his 19 studio albums reaching number one on the Billboard 200.
06:14 Less than two months ago, Toby played three sold out shows in Vegas. And just prior to that,
06:26 he took the stage at the People's Choice Country Awards, where he accepted the Icon Award.
06:31 And most of all, I want to thank the fans for still allowing us to do what we do.
06:35 Our condolences go out to Toby Keith's friends and family.
06:40 And today we raise a red solo cup to Toby.
06:50 And I'm very proud to run a label where our senior leadership is 53.6 percent women and
06:59 and 57.1 people of color. For Black History Month, Billboard is celebrating by highlighting
07:08 some of the greatest black executives in music. Today we're celebrating Sylvia Rhone.
07:17 40 years is a long time in any business. Warner Music Group for 28 years,
07:24 Universal Motown for seven years and now Sony Music Group for 10 plus years.
07:32 Sylvia Rhone became the first black industry executive and woman to hold the dual title
07:36 of CEO and chairman when she was appointed at Epic Records in 2019. Prior to that,
07:42 she held senior roles at all three major record companies. In 1990, Sylvia was the first black
07:48 woman to head a major record label when she became CEO/President of Atlantic's EastWest
07:53 Records U.S. division. Always a champion for women, she helped artists like En Vogue,
07:58 MC Lyte, Missy Elliott and Nicki Minaj reach stardom. She was an integral part in the success
08:04 of all of Young Money. I'm certainly really proud of the artists that I work with and the biggest
08:09 thrill is to see them be successful. Currently at Epic Records, she's been a key part of the
08:14 success of Camila Cabello, DJ Khaled, Travis Scott and 21 Savage. Last year when she took
08:20 home executive of the year at Billboard's Women in Music, she told us, "I am focused on creating
08:25 power by creating a culture where the creativity of artists on our roster can flourish and there
08:30 is an exchange of ideas, culture and information from a diverse group of creatives and executives."
08:36 I'm still as excited about the business today as I was over 40 years ago because it's simply,
08:43 simply my passion. Today we honor an epic woman in the music industry, Sylvia Roane.
08:51 That's it for today, come back tomorrow to find out who's our next Billboard cover star.
08:56 This is Billboard News.
