00:00 I knew what I was going to write about when I started writing "Break My Heart,"
00:04 but I didn't know where to begin, and so we kind of...
00:08 We started with the melody and the track.
00:11 Then I started putting down my thoughts into song form.
00:16 I think I needed a little bit of help from the melody
00:18 to be able to help me make sense of my words.
00:22 You know, the inspiration for "Break My Heart" came from a really good place.
00:27 The initial stages of falling in love and writing about that,
00:32 but also in the back of your mind thinking, "This is too good to be true,
00:36 so when is it going to go wrong?"
00:38 To me, when I listen back to it, it just feels like a celebration of vulnerability.
00:42 I actually felt really empowered and really strong,
00:46 so there's a lot of strength and vulnerability,
00:50 and I feel like we should share more of that.
00:56 The most memorable part when recording this song
00:59 was when we came up with the chorus and how kind of sparse it is.
01:04 I guess it definitely surprises people
01:06 because you always expect the chorus to come in really strong,
01:10 and then it almost brings you down for a second.
01:12 It's like an anticipation chorus
01:16 before it comes back in a second time and then really gets you dancing.
01:19 But that bit is really my favorite part of the song.
01:23 It just feels so exciting to me and a bit unexpected and fun.
01:27 For me, when I make music and I finally put it out,
01:32 I almost feel like it no longer belongs to me
01:34 and belongs to my fans and my listeners.
01:36 I have a separation from the track,
01:40 and so when you get the chance to remix this track,
01:45 it belongs to you.
01:46 So you can create it in any way that you want,
01:49 express yourself in whatever way that you see fit.
01:53 I just want you to have fun, I want you to enjoy it,
01:56 and I hope this unlocks something new and special for you.
02:02 Music is really accessible to anyone,
02:04 and it's one thing that really brings everyone together.
02:07 And I really just feel that if it's something that you love
02:12 and it's something that you see yourself doing,
02:15 you should push for it.
02:16 You shouldn't have a plan B, you should always focus
02:19 on the one thing that makes you the happiest.
