00:00 In the middle of the rise in the price of rice, some groups are hoping to approve an additional wage for the workers.
00:07 Witness, Sandra Aguinaldo.
00:09 Now, the Senate has just passed a plenary debate on the bill for an additional wage of P100 per day.
00:21 However, a group of workers were able to survive because their family's salary is not enough.
00:32 We think that P100 should be small, it should be P150.
00:38 But we are happy to hear that the Senate has to be legislated.
00:44 But the Department of Labor and Employment has long since asked the Senate to take their position on the issue.
00:51 They are able to affect the business plan to raise the salary of the 4.5 million minimum wage earners.
00:59 Labor Secretary Bienvenido La Guesma said that the minimum wage was raised in all regions of the country in 2023,
01:07 except for Davao Region, which implemented it in 2022.
01:12 Dole said that it is already in progress and it is possible to announce the Davao Region's increase in salary.
01:18 According to the GMA Integrated News Research, all wage orders in 2023 were implemented in the second semester or the last six months of the year.
01:29 The last was the Region 10 or Northern Mindanao in December.
01:34 Dole said that it will take another year to raise the salary again.
01:39 We want to give the employers a chance to settle down unless there is a so-called super-beating event.
01:47 La Guesma said that they will follow the Congress in order to pass the Senate bill.
01:54 In 1989, a legislative wage hike was implemented and the Wage Rationalization Act was passed.
02:03 The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards were established.
02:07 According to the Employers' Confederation of the Philippines or ECOP,
02:11 it is not yet possible to recover many businesses due to the pandemic and the increase in salary may be harmful.
02:18 Only a small number of businesses can benefit.
02:22 They can only do two things. Either they will be charged a price, which is inflationary, or they will reduce the number of employees.
02:30 If those two cannot be done, they will close down.
02:33 The group of employees has a different view.
02:36 We're talking about more than 25 million Filipinos who will benefit from this increase in salary.
02:47 So we're talking about 25% of the population.
02:51 If the salary of the employees increases, their families will become consumers.
