00:00 To this point, we haven't seen any tight ends.
00:02 One of the things that he really struggles with,
00:05 that Ken Dorsey offense really struggles with,
00:07 is the use of the tight end,
00:08 and getting the tight end involved.
00:10 We get one here, but it's just not something
00:12 that his offense really caters to.
00:15 It's more of that deep threat stuff,
00:17 kind of down the sidelines to the receivers,
00:19 and nothing really inside to the tight ends.
00:21 - Yeah, and it's a little deceiving,
00:22 like if you look at just the box scores.
00:24 I pulled this up a little bit earlier today,
00:26 like Kincaid, who was one of their top picks last year,
00:30 in nine games with Dorsey, he had 51 targets,
00:34 45 receptions, 390 yards.
00:36 He averaged 8.67 yards per reception.
00:39 In seven games under Joe Brady,
00:41 he had 40 targets, 28 receptions, 283 yards,
00:44 and 10 yards per reception.
00:46 So he had about 100 yards less in two less games,
00:50 but his yards per reception were higher.
00:52 It's not so much like a just look at the numbers thing,
00:55 but you notice just, it stands out
00:58 that he didn't necessarily look to the,
01:00 here's the way I'll put it,
01:01 and this is how it's been described to me
01:03 by multiple people who also covered this team regularly,
01:06 are on the beat for the Bills.
01:08 Ken Dorsey is a number one wide receiver's dream,
01:12 because like you've been highlighting,
01:15 he likes to take shots downfield,
01:16 he likes to utilize that number one receiver,
01:18 and if you do go look at box scores
01:19 of like Stephon Diggs' numbers
01:21 in the first half plus of the season when he was there,
01:25 versus the second sort of home stretch of the season,
01:28 there's an exponential difference.
01:30 Like he was getting targeted a lot more,
01:31 his usage went down,
01:32 that was a big topic of conversation nationally,
01:34 was why is Stephon Diggs not being used as much?
01:37 Does he went out of Buffalo,
01:39 that whole thing kind of pop back up again?
01:41 And so yeah, like for a Mark Cooper, it's great,
01:45 but when you have this Browns offense that has Nick Chubb,
01:48 that has David Njoku,
01:50 that potentially is gonna add another weapon
01:52 this off season, you gotta make the most of that.
01:57 And so this is another one of those areas that for me,
01:59 just kind of raises the eyebrows
02:01 of like a little bit of a concern.
02:02 And listen, I'm not trying to be like,
02:05 you know, poo-poo Ken Dorsey.
02:07 I understand there's context to everything,
02:11 we don't know all the ins and outs
02:12 of the situation in Buffalo,
02:13 we don't know everything he's gonna bring to the table,
02:17 we kind of have to see it.
02:18 And you know, like sometimes a fresh start
02:20 can be good for anybody and he has some different ideas,
02:23 maybe working with Stefanski and lock some things for him.
02:25 That's all great.
02:27 But all I can go off of right now is what we've seen.
02:29 And I walk away from his time in Buffalo
02:32 feeling like there were some things missing
02:33 that I think are important to what the Browns need to do.
02:36 I understand this is mostly about the quarterback
02:38 and you trust in some level that Dorsey
02:41 is gonna be able to do that
02:42 because he's worked with some of the best quarterbacks
02:43 in certain areas of the sport.
02:46 But I'm just a little hesitant
02:47 because the tight end thing concerns me,
02:49 the how he's gonna use Deshaun as a runner
02:52 or not use Deshaun as a runner sort of concerns me.
02:54 And then what this means for an offense
02:56 that has other weapons that are outside
02:58 of just their top receiver,
02:59 I think concerns me a little bit too.
03:01 - Absolutely.
03:02 And with the Browns specifically,
03:04 like David Ndjoku is a critical part of the offense
03:08 and it's like, hey, he is going to be like,
03:11 this offense doesn't function without David Ndjoku.
03:14 So like, it's like, how can he,
03:16 Ken Dorsey being the he there,
03:17 how can he adjust and what can him and Kevin Stefanski do
03:21 to like, hey, this is some things you were good at,
03:24 the play action stuff
03:25 and we'll get into some of the deep shots here.
03:27 But this is some places we have to grow
03:29 and maybe the places that can,
03:30 Kevin Stefanski then jumps in and is like,
03:32 hey, I'm very good at getting the ball to my tight ends.
03:34 I'm very good at my run game.
03:36 My run game is not changing
03:37 but we're just gonna incorporate your concepts,
03:39 your play action concepts into it.
03:41 You know, that stuff, like how do they marry each other?
03:44 - And some of that shotgun run game stuff
03:46 that the Browns are struggling with.
03:47 Like if Dorsey can help unlock that a little bit more,
03:49 that's an encouraging thing.
03:50 And this is, again, we don't know the full picture
03:53 of what this is gonna look like yet.
03:55 Obviously Stefanski was the one who kind of
03:57 introduced Ken Dorsey on Monday
04:00 and he tried to clear the air,
04:02 although he didn't clear the air 'cause he didn't answer,
04:04 but he said, you know, it's February 5th,
04:06 we're not ready to talk about play calling yet,
04:08 but we'll get there.
04:09 Like, we don't know who's gonna be the primary play caller,
04:14 but they always talk about being collaborative.
04:15 So I would imagine on some level,
04:17 there's gonna be some mixing and matching going on
04:19 and then we just have to get a firm answer
04:21 on like who's actually calling the plays.
