Head of the model line Kevin Giek explains the new Porsche Taycan

Porsche launches the extensively updated Taycan. The new model variants offer more range as well as shorter and more robust charging processes. During an initial range test from Los Angeles to San Diego and back, pre-series models demonstrated their further improved efficiency.

The all-electric sports cars covered up to 587 kilometres on one battery charge on public roads. The range test was carried out under everyday conditions. Twelve international media representatives drove four Taycan sports saloons and a Taycan Cross Turismo on three days on Interstate Highway 405 and 5 between the Southern Californian metropolises of Los Angeles and San Diego. The teams drove at the maximum speed of 75 mph permitted on interstates. This corresponds to around 120 km/h. All four test cars were equipped with the larger Performance Battery Plus.

The Cross Turismo 4 with 21-inch tyres had a range of up to 512 km. The Taycan Turbo covered up to 555 km with a wheel and tyre combination of the same size. The Taycan 4S on 20-inch tyres managed up to 552 kilometres on a single battery charge. The Taycan with rear-wheel drive and 19-inch tyres managed an even more impressive 587 km. The outside temperature peaked at around 26 degrees Celsius. The highway was dry on the first two test days and very wet on the last day.

The cars were charged at the Electrify America Charger in Torrance/Los Angeles. Here, the Taycan demonstrated over 300 kW charging power for many minutes and was able to charge from 10 to 80 per cent state of charge several times in well under 20 minutes. The charging performance, charging time and the time it takes to start charging were also greatly improved in this test.

00:14 Higher, faster, further.
00:16 The new Porsche Taycan.
00:18 We've improved it in almost every discipline.
00:21 Hello and welcome.
00:22 My name is Kevin Gieck and today I have the pleasure of introducing you to the new Taycan.
00:27 [MUSIC]
00:30 We are proud of this success story.
00:32 To date, we have produced 150,000 units.
00:36 Let's start with the design.
00:38 With new front sections, new rear sections, and new headlights and rear lights,
00:42 our colleagues at Style Porsche have further sharpened the clear, purest design of the Taycan.
00:48 The flat headlights give the Taycan even more width and sportiness.
00:52 The new LED main headlights with high-resolution HD Matrix technology and 32,000 LEDs
00:59 now produce the typical four-point graphics, even at night.
01:03 The Porsche lettering and the light strip at the rear
01:06 is now available with lighting and animation on request for the first time.
01:12 We now have aerodynamically optimized wheel-tire combinations for all models.
01:17 This means an on-top range of up to 40 km for all models.
01:21 [MUSIC]
01:25 Let's continue with the suspension, one of our core competencies.
01:29 All Taycan models are now available with adaptive air suspension.
01:33 The new Porsche Active Ride Suspension can be ordered as an option.
01:37 This enables us to achieve a previously unknown spread between driving dynamics and comfort.
01:43 The new system keeps the Taycan horizontal at all times during braking, acceleration, and steering.
01:49 The Taycan literally sticks to the road.
01:53 The new Taycan is also significantly faster and more powerful.
01:57 Let me give you two examples.
01:59 With the Taycan and the Taycan Turbo S as a sports sedan,
02:03 we reached the 100 km/h mark in 4.8 and 2.4 seconds, respectively.
02:09 And we were up to 0.6 seconds faster than our predecessors.
02:13 With the new Push-to-Pass function from the Sport Chrono package,
02:16 we can provide up to 70 kW more power for 10 seconds.
02:20 Derived from the racetrack, it increases driving pleasure and makes overtaking maneuvers easier.
02:26 The new Taycan Turbo S has 140 kW more power with launch control.
02:31 This means a system output of 700 kW.
02:35 The maximum recuperation power during deceleration from high speeds increases by more than 30%,
02:41 from 290 to 400 kW.
02:44 Although our models are now up to 15 kg lighter,
02:49 the standard equipment has become even more extensive.
02:52 For example, the parking assistant with reversing camera,
02:56 folding side mirrors, electric charging flaps on both sides,
03:00 heat pump, heated seats, ambient lighting, Porsche Intelligent Range Manager,
03:05 drive mode switch and Power Steering Plus now come as standard.
03:10 Porsche customers will benefit from the upgraded model series in several ways.
03:14 For example, the WLTP range increases to up to 678 km.
03:20 This means an increase of 175 km or up to 35%.
03:25 At DC charging stations with 800 V, we can achieve charging capacities of up to 320 kW.
03:32 We can recharge up to 315 km in 10 minutes.
03:37 The charging robustness also increases.
03:39 We can provide 300 kW for up to 5 minutes.
03:42 This reduces the charging time from 10 to 80%,
03:46 despite 12% higher battery capacity to 18 minutes.
03:50 Let me summarize the three main advantages of the new Taycan.
04:04 Higher performance, faster charging times, longer ranges.
04:08 The new Taycan is one of the most extensive facelifts in the history of Porsche AG.
04:13 We are proud of what we have achieved.
04:15 Thank you for watching and see you soon.
