00:05 I've never been so aware of what I look like.
00:07 Because I have opposite body dysmorphia,
00:10 I think I'm far more handsome than I see myself in the mirror.
00:13 And I'm like, "God damn."
00:14 So, yeah, it's annoying to see them render it so accurately.
00:18 Detective, I was wondering when you were going to show up.
00:22 Pardon me, excuse me.
00:24 My name is Edward Carnby, private investigator.
00:26 [laughs]
00:28 We spent a lot of time...
00:30 I know they did, and they shouldn't.
00:32 They should just use the template of Brad Pitt's face,
00:35 and then we're good to go.
00:37 But they had to get it right.
00:39 I'd just finished a movie which was based on a video game,
00:44 and I'd had this kind of newfound appreciation for video games,
00:48 having not played a lot of them in my own life.
00:51 And just really kind of getting an insight into how big the gaming world is,
00:57 and the level of craftsmanship that goes into creating these games.
01:01 Wait.
01:02 So when the offer came through to being in Alone in the Dark,
01:05 I said yes immediately.
01:07 Excuse me?
01:09 Do you know where I can find Jeremy Hartwood?
01:11 What I'm most drawn to is the different characters,
01:14 because they are all so, so different, so fully fleshed out.
01:19 And I'm always just so fascinated about their dialogue.
01:21 What are you doing?
01:23 I told you not to lose sight of the girl.
01:25 Don't you worry, Mags. I'll find that little rascal.
01:29 Who are you people?
01:31 You really do feel like when Emily meets a new character,
01:34 the world is completely changed.
01:36 Ruth. Ruth Talon.
01:38 Nice to meet you.
01:41 I mean, he's kind of a gruff detective,
01:46 and he's like searching for something.
01:48 You know, he's hard-boiled, but he's got some humor to him and stuff like that.
01:54 He's a bit of a trope or a type, and I like that.
01:58 And I like the world and sort of how he's exploring this insanity
02:02 amidst all this horror and stuff.
02:04 I liked all those aspects.
02:06 Oh, she is just peachy, detective.
02:09 You want to be able to sort of ride a balanced line
02:12 of being able to play a character a certain way,
02:14 but also that it doesn't have too many specifics
02:17 so that someone will distance themselves from that character.
02:20 You want them to be able to invest in this person.
02:23 Well, I guess it's also trying to make sure
02:26 that there isn't, like, one tone throughout.
02:28 Like, yeah, you know it's a horror,
02:30 but then you don't want her to be one level throughout the whole game.
02:35 You know, like, yes, there is the kind of scary element,
02:38 but then she still has to go on a journey and discover different things,
02:41 and there should still be room to breathe and have a funny moment
02:45 or a sarcastic moment or a moment of discovery.
02:49 So it's just trying to really kind of keep all those other beats alive
02:54 amongst the kind of darkness of it all, I guess, is how I felt anyway.
03:00 And she is kind of, you know, there's a lot of fear within her
03:06 and a lot of speculation and curiosity and, I guess, dread, intrigue.
03:13 Like, there's a lot about her that is kind of on edge.
03:18 "Detective, I really need you to get yourself together.
03:21 I can't do this alone."
03:23 Yeah, I'll definitely play it. I'll probably play it as Emily.
03:27 The cinematics will probably be better,
03:29 but it'll be those moments in the gameplay where, you know,
03:32 you're running around trying to solve something,
03:33 and as I say, I'm pretty terrible at it,
03:35 and then you just hear, "I can't do that. I can't do that. I can't do that."
03:38 Then I'll be very annoyed with my own voice.
03:41 "I can't leave. I got a job to do.
03:44 I can't leave. I got a job to do.
03:47 I can't leave. I got a job to do."
03:50 It's really, really cool.
03:51 I mean, like, never, ever would I think that I would have the opportunity
03:54 to do something like this, you know?
03:56 It's so incredible to be able to kind of step out of what you usually do
04:00 and explore something new and kind of challenge yourself in a new way.
04:07 So it's been amazing.
