00:00 Alright Boxers, you received your instructions earlier.
00:03 As a reminder, obey my commands at all times, protect yourself at all times.
00:07 Touch him up. Good luck.
00:08 Don't go nowhere. People at home watching, don't go anywhere.
00:11 Stay home. Watch this young man perform.
00:17 I mean, y'all ain't for show.
00:19 He's been impressive every time out.
00:22 And Cesar Villarraga ended a 5 fight knockout streak 2 fights ago, but he's back on it.
00:28 Against Jose Cardenas in November of 2023 and he starts off his 2024 campaign.
00:34 Tim, hoping to become the prospect of the year.
00:38 He might be past that. He might be a contender, you know.
00:42 Sometimes you never know how this game is going to go.
00:45 It all depends on your performances inside the ring against the competition that they provide for you inside the ring.
00:52 However, tonight he's facing a southpaw.
00:55 This is a close stand battle right here.
00:58 You usually don't see two southpaws going at it like this.
01:02 It's going to be interesting to see how well Mason can adjust to the southpaw.
01:07 This is only my second southpaw as a pro, but I've faced plenty of southpaws, not only in the amateurs, but also in the gym.
01:14 You see the quick hands from Abdullah Mason here against the former US Army veteran, Grumet.
01:24 He's a little bit slower. Sometimes he can rush things a little bit.
01:27 He doesn't realize he has 8 rounds. It almost seems that way.
01:31 He has 8 rounds to work. He's used to fighting 4 or 6 rounders and such.
01:37 But you see him rushing every now and then.
01:39 What he needs to do is take his time, let the fight develop, use his jab, take a look at Grumet.
01:49 He's 19 years old. He talks to us about how he's seeing things slow down in front of him.
01:54 And that's what allows him to not only perplex his opponents, but punish his opponents, as we've seen with 9 knockouts in 11 career fights.
02:05 Grumet, no stranger to punishment. He was down twice in his pro career against Alan Rosas,
02:14 but he got off the canvas to win by knockout in the third round.
02:17 So there's toughness from the former US Army veteran.
02:20 Grumet's tough, you can tell. He knows what he's doing inside the ring.
02:23 You see him reaching around to land that body shot.
02:26 And then he's sneaking behind when you see Mason out of position.
02:30 Mason now coming back with his own offense.
02:34 Didn't like the position he was in, and he changed the tide real quick.
02:38 And now he's got Grumet back against the ropes.
02:42 But Grumet does really well to get off the ropes and now try to pin Mason.
02:47 And this is the one thing that we question about Mason, is that man strength.
02:51 He's only 19 years old, but he's holding his own against a 31 year old.
02:56 And you see the power of Abdullah Mason.
02:58 And you see the offensive prowess.
03:01 You know, you don't see a guy that's just looking to counter punch.
03:05 You see him on his front foot, knife cut, a little abrasion over the right eye of Grumet.
03:11 And you see underneath the right eye, the inflammation also on Grumet,
03:16 an Army veteran who served in Djibouti as well as Kansas.
03:20 And right now he's in a tough battle against Abdullah Mason.
03:26 Back to his corner and listen to his father, Valium.
03:32 [MUSIC]
03:43 [FOREIGN]
03:53 [MUSIC]
04:03 [FOREIGN]
04:13 [MUSIC]
04:23 Wanted to listen to Abdullah Mason's corner, his father Valium,
04:26 who were hitting the corner of Benjamin Grumet in Spanish, saying,
04:29 "Hey, you got two hands. Go out there and throw them."
04:32 Ray Barrera with the instructions.
04:35 You know, I like the offensive prowess.
04:38 I love the energy that Mason brings into the ring.
04:41 Ooh, that stick, Tim.
04:43 That's a mean jab. That's a mean jab.
04:46 However, if Mason was to slow things down a bit, I think he'll be a lot more effective.
04:54 Grumet trying to pressure the young man.
05:00 That's exactly what Grumet needs to do because he's not going to match him skill for skill.
05:04 He just needs to take advantage of either the low points or sneak behind that offense,
05:09 which he does by stepping and stepping under Mason to get inside just to work some offense.
05:16 And he's jabbing with him, so you get a good jabber, you jab with him.
05:20 It'd be the battle of jabs.
05:22 But then you have the power of Mason.
05:24 You saw that double left hand and you saw Grumet retreat toward the robes.
05:28 And Mason now looking to put an end to this fight.
05:31 Those left hooks landing cleanly on the chin of Grumet,
05:34 who finally was going down and held onto the ropes, and it's a knockdown.
05:38 Four, five, six, seven, eight.
05:43 You all right? Yeah. Walk over here.
05:46 You sure you're okay? Yeah.
05:47 I'm going to give you a real short leash. You got to show me something, all right?
05:50 You're taking a lot of punishment.
05:51 Love that. Love that.
05:53 Excellent job from Harvey Dock from the state of New York.
05:57 Oh, what a finish from Abdullah Mason.
06:00 He didn't need a short leash.
06:02 All he needed was one shot to say goodnight.
06:07 Wow.
06:09 Now we know, Tim, why he's the number one double step prospect on your list.
06:15 He's number two.
06:18 Oh, yeah.
06:19 With that performance.
06:20 Oh, my.
06:21 Shoo, shoo. You got company.
06:23 You got company.
06:24 Shoo, shoo.
06:26 Gosh.
06:27 Did you see that left hand?
06:29 No, you saw it.
06:30 You just witnessed it.
06:31 You witnessed the same thing I witnessed, right?
06:33 It's beautiful work, man.
06:34 That is lightning in a bottle, Tim.
06:36 Look, look, look, look.
06:37 I'm going to tell you something.
06:38 He's offensive-minded.
06:40 Yes.
06:41 That's what makes him exciting.
06:43 People want to see a fight.
06:44 You're going to get a fight when you see this young man fight.
06:47 He's entertaining, and I get the level of competition he's facing right now.
06:52 Let's be real.
06:53 However, again, let me tell you all, let me preach how you do it.
06:58 Not everybody performs to this level when they get this type of competition.
07:03 That's the difference here.
07:05 At 19 years old, Abdullah Mason is now 12 and 0 with 10 knockouts,
07:11 and most have been highlight reel knockouts.
07:15 We're going to take a look at the first knockdown with a series of punches,
07:18 but the finish was brutal.
07:20 Again, the start right here.
07:22 Initiating an offense, not afraid to step into the pocket.
07:25 That's what you're seeing.
07:26 Left hand after left hand.
07:27 Knew he had his man hurt.
07:29 Stepped in.
07:30 You see Doc.
07:31 That was nice, straight left hands, Tim, and here's the finish.
07:34 Here it is.
07:35 Timing.
07:36 Got the high guard up.
07:37 He waiting for the chance.
07:38 Mid-range jab.
07:39 Why you going to do that, son?
07:42 Some punches to the left, you shouldn't throw some punches,
07:44 especially a jab at mid-range.
07:47 Wow.
07:48 This is just ridiculous.
07:50 Accuracy, power, and destruction.
07:53 Throw the jab at mid-range.
07:55 Go ahead.
07:56 You're not supposed to do that.
07:59 Let's listen to what I'm about to do.
08:01 I'm going to just be quiet.
08:02 [music]
08:11 Check that man's knee out.
08:13 He put him in A.
08:14 That's a yoga position right there, right?
08:16 Put him in a yoga position with that shot.
08:19 That's called the KO yoga position.
08:21 My goodness.
08:23 Man, look, look.
08:24 I'm excited.
08:26 I can't wait to see him step up his competition and see what he can do at the next level.
08:32 Whether it's a former world champion or another undefeated prospect, something.
08:39 But he needs another test right now.
08:41 Another test moving forward.
08:44 This is the second consecutive knockout in a row?
08:48 I'm just out of high school, Tim.
08:49 19 years old, blowing guys out.
08:51 I understand, but I see people all the time.
08:53 I see people, young as Serena Williams and young men doing things that they're not supposed to at a certain age.
08:59 They're young prodigies.
09:01 That's what it is.
09:02 I said you're going to see an uber prospect tonight.
09:04 This young man is that.
09:07 Abdullah Mason, what's the official time of the stoppage mark?
09:10 Ladies and gentlemen, here inside Michelob Ultra Arena, this bout comes to a conclusion at 1 minute, 29 seconds.
09:17 Of round number 2, for your winner by technical knockout, Abdullah Mason!
09:27 [music]
09:30 12-0, 10 knockouts for Abdullah Mason.
09:34 This is what it looked like.
09:36 As impressive a knockout as you're going to see on such a great weekend.
09:40 That's his father and his brothers.
