00:00 The Super Eagles of Nigeria have surveilled and they are now set to conquer in the 2023 African Cup of Nations when they face tournament host Ivory Coast for the second time in the tournament.
00:10 Here's a preview of that game. My name is Ayomede Shotobu and this is The Nutmeg on Guardian TV.
00:23 The Super Eagles most certainly have hungered and thirsted at the African Cup of Nations. They've defeated some of the best teams at the tournament as well on the way through to the final where they will now face Ivory Coast.
00:33 And we got to hear what some of the fans think ahead of that game and of course we're bringing that to you right here on this episode of The Nutmeg.
00:41 What was your pick from that match against South Africa on Wednesday night?
00:48 No grief for anybody. Nigeria was outstanding. South Africa was outstanding but Nigeria had to take that glory because if not, I don't know what to say.
01:00 It was a very fantastic game. It really changed the mindset of Nigerians that we are still one. I see beyond football. I see the joy radiating to the hearts of people. I was impressed. It made my night. I slept well.
01:15 It was a very interesting match. When you look at it very well, before the match South Africa was even praying for the match to get to the penalty because you have a very good goalkeeper.
01:26 It was a fair game for both teams but the best team won which is the Super Eagles. I was very happy and I watched the game from the first minute to the last minute. We did very well.
01:39 I really enjoyed the match.
01:42 I feel happy. I didn't know that Nigeria would win. I didn't know that Nigeria would win. I was very happy.
01:53 Our own goalkeeper Stanley Wabali had a fantastic game too.
01:57 Yes, of course. Stanley Wabali is a very confident goalkeeper. If you watch the way he was flying around the goalkeeper, he was very playful.
02:05 Even when the tension was very high, he was very cool and calm and he was able to deliver Nigeria from that tension.
02:11 Stanley Wabali is God sent. You know what they call national treasure? Stanley Wabali is our national treasure. He is our saving grace. He is our central bank of Nigeria right now.
02:23 I am so happy that we have someone now who can say we have a very good goalkeeper like Vincent Nyama.
02:31 It was outstanding. It was for him. I think the game would have gone beyond our expectations. His performance was wonderful. He performed so well.
02:42 We are facing Ivory Coast as a consequence on Sunday and that's the final. Meanwhile, we face them in the group phase and it was really tough but we won. What are you expecting ahead of the final on Sunday?
02:53 Yes, of course. It's going to be a very tense game. The first game will not be compared to the second game because it's going to be a different game entirely.
03:01 This is the final. You know what's going on in the final. They are playing at home. They are very confident. They have their crowd behind them.
03:08 They have the coach that coached against Nigeria in the first game. They have been sacked. This is another coach. They are going to be very tense to come and win.
03:16 We know that Super Rugby is going to try and we are going to win the match. We are coming home with the trophy by God's grace but it's going to be a very tough game for Nigeria.
03:27 We are going to play against referees. We will play against the whole team. We will play against fans. They have everything more than us.
03:36 In that first leg, it worked very well. Two or three of the starting eleven players were injured.
03:42 The end just admits. From what I have seen in the upcoming match, in my mind we have won the competition. We have crossed the hurdles.
03:51 Just think on our hands and a little luck and we will have the trophy.
03:55 It's going to be a very tough final because if you want to look at it objectively, they beat them in the first stage.
04:05 It's not a year six for us to look at the final. The final, the Super Rugby girls need to at least work harder.
04:12 Because number one factor that might work against the Super Rugby girls, they are the host country.
04:20 They might have the support of the fans. They have more fans because they are the host team.
04:27 But in all, by the time the Super Rugby girls put their ass together and work as a team, I believe we are going to bring the cups to Nigeria.
04:34 I know it will be a very tough match because they have players that have the same standard as Nigerian players.
04:40 But I still believe in our team spirit and the people supporting you.
04:45 I believe that in the spirit of what we are now, they won't beat us. We will still deal with them.
04:52 What is your score prediction? Will they do it in 90 minutes? Will they do it in extra time? Will they go to penalties?
04:57 For my own score prediction, Nigeria is not a team that you just want to score one.
05:04 You can even see South Africa before they scored the one, they knew how it was.
05:07 So I believe it will go to 2-0. In normal time. In normal 90 minutes, 2-0.
05:13 Play 2-2, then we'll go to extra time. In extra time, Nigeria will beat them 3-2.
05:18 As you can see, the Super Rugby girls of Nigeria have fans who are expecting ahead of that final on Sunday night.
05:26 And it's really up to the Super Eagles now to do the business against Ivory Coast.
05:30 It's not going to be easy, but they have shown that they have a body and a spirit that is tough.
05:36 And we expect to see that again on Sunday.
05:39 That's what we have for you on our show here as a preview for that game between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Ivory Coast.
