00:00 Everybody knows who this guy is. I'm a cowboy as well. What's going on with us in the playoffs, man?
00:07 Like, what is it, man? Is it the top to bottom thing? Is it the guys on the field? Is it the coach?
00:14 Let me just give you an analogy. You hear all about the MJ stories, right?
00:21 How competitive he is, right? He's not just competitive on the basketball court.
00:26 He's competitive in life, period. Still is to this day.
00:31 That competitive spirit, even in practice, makes everybody else around them better.
00:38 He's putting you through a grind and putting you through a test.
00:41 Then once the game began, you don't have to worry about being ready to play because you're already ready to play because mentally you're already there.
00:50 Our cowboys, I don't know if they've been through that grinder yet.
00:53 I don't know if they understand what that grinder really looks like or feels like.
00:58 When you think about what the Niners did to us in week three or four, whenever it was, they grinded us.
01:07 They practically bullied us. That was like playoff football. That was playoff football.
01:11 And we couldn't match that energy. Right. And when you think about how we played Philadelphia up there in Philly, it was playoff football.
01:21 But we couldn't close the deal. You know why we couldn't close the deal?
01:25 We haven't been in that type of pressure type situation enough because we don't practice like that.
01:31 We don't compete like that. And we think that we can walk onto the football field with talent and just a lot of talent to just compete at an average level without bringing the mind, body and soul.
01:43 And to me, that's the difference between a team that's ready to play versus a team that needs to get ready.
01:51 Right. OK, so we have Bruce Smith down here yesterday. My pops played 12 back in the 80s, Bobby Butler.
01:59 They always talk about the game is soft now because of the new rules.
02:04 And Bruce mentioned that yesterday on air. You're talking about the grinder, the practice, the competitive nature.
02:11 Right. Do you think that is because of the new rules or do you think it's probably because of the coach and the style in which they practice?
02:20 It's a combination of both. The rules of the game favors the offense a lot.
02:29 Correct. It favors the offense a lot and is not as supportive for defensive players.
02:36 Pass interference, roughing the quarterback, roughing the pass and all this kind of stuff.
02:42 That part has lessened the value of the game, in my opinion.
02:47 Offensively, coordinators are enamored with the passing game, which is the league itself has shifted itself to a pass happy league.
02:57 And they are adapting to the abilities of the players that's growing up in these systems at the collegiate level, high school level and even at the Pop Warner level now.
03:09 Everybody wants to throw the ball even at the Pop Warner level. Yeah.
03:13 And that's who they're raising and grooming right now. Right.
03:19 And so guys that you normally wouldn't see playing the slot, they're making room for guys to play the slot.
03:25 Yeah. They're making room for that. And guys that you normally would see in the backfield, you lose sight of who they are.
03:32 The fullback position is non-involved right now. Yeah. It's replaced by a hybrid kind of tight end. Yeah.
03:38 And so the game itself has shifted. And the way they're training kids now and the way they're teaching kids has also shifted.
03:47 Yeah, that's true. Kids don't know how to tackle. That's why you see guys holding on.
03:51 They're not tackling. Right. Because either they're trying to cater to the game and the injury factor of the game. Right.
03:59 Or not. I don't think they're caring that much about the injury factor. I don't think they're. I don't think they really care. No.
04:04 So tackling is fundamental to the game. Yeah. It's fundamental to blocking. Yeah.
04:10 And it's fundamental to running and tackling. All that is fundamental to the game.
04:15 So if you're not teaching it, guys can't do it. And they think they're good at it. They're really not.
04:20 So while we're on the topic of the running back, let's talk about Chris McCaffrey and Isaiah Pacheco.
04:26 Who do you think has the bigger game? And who do you know? Stop.
04:31 Who do you think has to have the bigger game for their team to win the game?
04:36 I think McCaffey. I got to put the pressure on McCaffey because he has he is so dynamic.
04:46 And Cal Shanahan is such a great offensive coordinator. I'm going to call him a great offensive coordinator because when I look at their systems and I see how they move players around and disguise certain things and take advantage of matchup issues because of that, whether you're utilizing Debo and Christian in multiple tubes of formations and areas and motion them out of the backfield into the backfield, creating one on one issues.
05:11 It's brilliant. Yeah, that's taking advantage of your talent and putting your players in a position to where they can make plays.
05:17 I love that. When I think about the Chiefs, Pacheco, they can win without Pacheco.
05:24 OK, because they got Mahomes. They got Patty. They got Patty and they got Kelsey.
05:29 And if the wide receivers don't drop the ball, they can win with those wide receivers.
05:34 Right. So to me, it's more on Christian McCaffey being able to be who he is running with the rock, catching out of backfield in space and making dynamic things happen.
05:50 OK, so I'm new age cowboy, so I make it to the Super Bowl.
05:54 You the OG cowboy that made it to plenty of Super Bowls. Tell me about like the Super Bowl routine or if there was a little funny thing where I couldn't go to sleep.
06:05 I threw up maybe before this game. Give me give me a little something, man.
06:09 Tell me a little something. All right. The very first Super Bowl, there was not another experience in any of the other Super Bowls quite like the very first one.
06:17 OK. You're getting amped up, trying not to be amped up, but you are so fired up and so jacked up and so hyped up and ready to go play this game that you are completely exhausted before you even start the warm up process.
06:36 And when you warm it up, you feel like you're out of shape. The air is thin. Feel like you can't breathe. And that's all of the anxiety and all the build up pressure of being able to play in this game.
06:47 Right. And I never forget coming out of the tunnel and standing in his own.
06:53 Michael Irvin and I standing up, looking around and talking about how big of a moment this is for us. Two Florida boys.
07:03 Yeah. From one from the bottom, one from the top. Yeah. Out in sunny California.
07:09 You're going to play in the biggest game of our careers. And we are the underdog.
07:14 And you're looking around and you just taking in the moment and you realize that this is about to go down. Yeah.
07:23 So we both came through that tunnel instead of in the end zone. And we like, did you feel that? Yeah. The ground just shut.
07:33 No, it was our legs that were trembling because of the nervousness of the energy that we had at that time.
07:39 So that's what happens in the very first. The second one is a lot less. The third one, you're pinching yourself trying to figure out, am I here? Is this real?
07:48 What's wrong? Something wrong with me? How come I don't feel like I did two games ago? Right. Experience.
07:55 That's what's up. That's what's up. All right. Now I got something in my hand. It's look special. Talk to me about your tequila, man.
08:01 All right. We've been working with tequila, head of door for like the last 10 to 13 years.
08:06 And I've been with that brand before the tequila category blown up.
08:12 It has blown up over the last five to six, maybe 10 years.
08:16 And so for me, this is the this is a premium tequila.
08:22 Head of door has a number of numbered tequila, premium tequilas like Ultra and Naho.
08:27 They have legends. They have selection Suprema. They have the double barrel Reposado.
08:32 They have the double barrel and Nahos. All of those are quality, quality tequilas.
08:39 And I stacked them up with any of them out there in the marketplace.
08:42 So I'm proud to be working with them for 13 years.
08:45 I'm proud of what we represent and just trying to continue to push the brand.
08:50 Yeah. Ladies and gentlemen, Emmett Smith, a legend, the GOAT. My man.
08:55 - Thank you so much, man. - Yes, sir.
08:56 Appreciate you.
