New York Designer Andre Landeros Michel's adoration with Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes Inspires Fall 2024 Collection

For New York Designer Andre Landeros Michel, it's all about the music. Immersing himself in sound for weeks at a time to create his designs, which are often seen on celebs such as Billy Porter or Musician Nico Case, this season he goes full on 80s. For his latest Fall 2024 collection 'Arena', he channels his adoration of Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes who was also later, in a band called Arcadia. The essence and avant-garde style of both, translates to bold and colorful double-faced wools, silk faille, cashmere, and satin creations, all characteristic of that pop, new wave, joyful time.

00:02 - The collection's called Arena,
00:11 and it's loosely based on my love affair
00:14 of Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran.
00:16 When he got married, I think back in '84,
00:18 his wedding, he wore pink tuxedo coat tails,
00:22 and the wedding was very much like pink, lavender,
00:24 and that kind of colorway, so when I saw those images,
00:27 it's been forever on my mood board,
00:28 and I thought, you know, one day I'm gonna do
00:30 a collection based on that.
00:31 And then I did a deeper dive into Nick Rhodes' work.
00:34 I think 1985, they took a break,
00:36 and then they started a band called Arcadia,
00:39 where they came out, just dyed black hair,
00:42 gothic black suits, long coats.
00:44 Fabrics are double-faced cashmeres,
00:47 lots of beautiful wools with nap,
00:49 very heavy coat weights, and some light coat weight wool,
00:53 tulle, and a lot of silk file.
