Surprising as it might seem for a team going for its second consecutive Super Bowl championship, the Kansas City Chiefs were underdogs throughout their 2024 NFL playoff run. In each of those games, the Chiefs prevailed on their way to repeating as Super Bowl champions.

00:00 The Chiefs are Super Bowl champions for the third time in five years.
00:03 The first back-to-back champion since 2003 and 2004.
00:07 And that's relevant because the team that did it then was the Patriots.
00:10 They'd go on to win six championships behind Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
00:15 That's where the discussion on this one really begins with Andy Reid and
00:18 Patrick Mahomes getting their third ring.
00:21 Mahomes is still just 28 years old, has plenty of time to build on his legacy.
00:25 I think you'd already start to argue his peak right now might be as high as Tom
00:30 Brady's peak, his ability to fight through everything that he fought through this
00:33 year with Travis Kelsey battling through injuries, showing his age a little bit
00:38 through the regular season, Tyree Kill obviously being gone for a couple of years.
00:42 This is a lot like Tom Brady in 2006 when Brady had lost to Ian Branch.
00:47 But David Gibbons, the difference is Patrick Mahomes fought through and
00:51 winds up winning a championship.
00:52 And tonight being able to survive a really rough start to the second half,
00:56 rally the team back, tie the game at the end, and
00:58 then lead the game winning drive in overtime.
01:01 And score on the same play that they scored on twice in last year's Super Bowl,
01:05 that's corndog, this time to McColl Hardman.
01:07 Big cements, Patrick Mahomes is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
01:11 Will he reach Brady from a legacy perspective?
01:13 We'll see.
01:14 But it certainly looks like his peak is as high as Tom Brady's peak.
