Two men arrested after boy, 17, died in a workplace accident on industrial estate

Two men have been arrested after a 17-year-old boy died in a workplace accident on an industrial estate.

Police were called to a business premises in Bury, Gtr Manchester, following concerns for welfare shortly after 10am on Thursday (Feb 8).

Emergency services, including fire crews and medics, made efforts to save the boy, but he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

A 41-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter and driving offences.

While a 36-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said investigations were now underway to establish exactly how the boy had died.

They said: "At around 10.10am today, February 8, officers were called to reports of concerns for welfare at a business premises on Tile Street, Bury.

"It was established that a 17-year-old boy was involved in a workplace accident and despite the best efforts of emergency services, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences and gross negligence manslaughter and a 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

"A joint investigation between GMP Bury CID and the Health and Safety Executive has been launched to make enquiries into the circumstances that led to the boy’s death.

"Enquiries are ongoing at this stage."

A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "Paramedics attended an incident at 10.04am this morning (Thursday).

"Resources were sent, but no one was taken to hospital."

Police were seen at the premises of the industrial estate throughout today, with CSI seen taking photos.
