00:00 "My repeated request and advice to show due respect to the national anthem and play
00:13 it at the beginning and end of the address has been ignored."
00:18 Governor R N Ravi of Tamil Nadu concluded his customary speech to the House on Monday
00:23 in a matter of minutes, voicing his disagreement with the government over the speech's content
00:28 and criticising the regime for not respecting the national anthem.
00:33 This is just another example of the confrontation with the DMK regime in the state.
00:38 During his first speech of the year at the House, Ravi remarked that the state government
00:42 had disregarded his repeated request and suggestion to respect the national anthem by playing
00:47 it at the start and finish of the speech.
00:50 However, the DMK government reportedly ignored the request.
00:54 The government called a meeting of the House for the traditional governor's address to
00:58 the Assembly on 12 February, but it ended up in not a very expected manner.
01:04 The governor stated, "I convincingly disagree on factual and moral ground with many of the
01:09 sentiment in the address."
01:10 Therefore, Ravi claimed lending his voice to those components of the government with
01:15 which he disapproved will be a travesty of the constitution.
01:18 Thus, he ended his speech with a few words on the House, and he hoped the conversation
01:23 with the House is fruitful and beneficial to the people.
01:27 Shortly after expressing his disapproval with the government, Ravi concluded his statement
01:31 and extended his greetings in Tamil to Speaker M Appavu, Chief Minister M K Stalin and legislators.
01:38 Reportedly, the Tamil Nadu governor has always had disagreement with the DMK government over
01:43 a variety of issues.
01:45 The CAA, to the national anthem and other ideological differences, the list is quite
01:50 endless.
01:51 But this incident has simply raised the alarm over the RIF as it has just come out in the
01:55 open.
02:02 "I have been asked and advised to show due respect to the national anthem and play it
02:11 at the beginning and end of the address has been ignored.
02:19 This address has numerous passages with which I convincingly disagree on factual and moral
02:30 grounds.
02:32 I lending my voice to them would constitute constitutional travesty.
02:41 Hence, with respect to the House, I conclude my address.
02:49 Wish this House a productive and healthy discussion for the good of the people.
