00:00 The most romantic thing I've ever done is just pay attention.
00:03 Ooh!
00:04 Hey, I'm Katherine Newton.
00:07 And I'm Cole Sprouse.
00:08 And today we're going to let Elle...
00:11 Ask us anything.
00:12 Anything.
00:15 Any-thing.
00:17 - Okay, ready? - Yeah.
00:18 Oh, this is vain for me.
00:21 Which of my roles is your favorite besides the creature?
00:26 Wow, obviously, "Sweet Lettuce, Zack and Cody."
00:30 I mean, I watched your show like it was water.
00:32 Did you ever go to a live taping?
00:34 No, not that weird.
00:35 Yeah, we wouldn't have let you in.
00:36 No, but I really did love that show.
00:39 Who was the last person you were starstruck to meet?
00:42 I've been starstruck twice.
00:44 The first one was Clint Eastwood.
00:45 This is the only time I've ever done this.
00:47 When I saw him walking out of the Sunset Tower, I went, "Oh!"
00:50 No!
00:51 I gasped and I pointed.
00:54 He looked at me and he just went, "Ugh!"
00:56 Which I didn't realize at the time
00:58 was actually exactly what I wanted.
01:00 Like, you want the squint.
01:02 Like, you want the sort of gruff, like, Clint.
01:04 That was so good!
01:05 It was like perfect for me,
01:07 and I was buzzy about it afterwards.
01:09 And then I followed John C. Reilly into a bathroom once.
01:12 - That's awesome, String. - And waited for him by the sinks
01:13 because I really loved him.
01:15 - That's so sweet. - Yeah.
01:16 - Next. - Okay.
01:19 What's your most embarrassing on-set mishap?
01:22 I don't really have one, top of mind.
01:24 - I know, I'm really uncool. - Have I told you
01:27 one of the final experiences on Riverdale?
01:29 So we had a scene.
01:31 I was supposed to bust down this door.
01:33 - And the special effects guy was like, - This is good.
01:35 "Hey, we only have three door frames."
01:37 First time, busted through it.
01:39 Dust went everywhere, so it was kind of unusable.
01:42 Second time, hit the door.
01:44 The door frame fell, hit the camera on the crane.
01:46 Completely unusable.
01:47 Third time, he comes up to me, he's like, "Dude."
01:49 I know what happened.
01:51 We only have one more take with this.
01:52 So, boom, knock open the door, hit the floor.
01:55 I see a dead body of a milkman.
01:58 This is Riverdale.
01:59 And then I scramble backwards against the door frame
02:01 and I'm like, my elbows and my legs--
02:03 - Like that. - Yeah, like that.
02:05 - Like legs spread out. - Like I'm leaning back against the door.
02:06 Like I'm startled, "Oh my God, there's a dead milkman."
02:08 They go, "Cut!"
02:09 And I'm like, "Damn, I nailed that."
02:11 Look down, I had split my pants.
02:14 My whole genitals were just hanging right in center frame.
02:19 I mean, like, full on, dude.
02:22 I look down, I go, "Woo!
02:25 Are my balls out?"
02:28 It was one of the funniest events
02:30 in all seven years of that show
02:31 and it happened right towards the end.
02:33 I don't think anyone can ever top that story.
02:36 Okay, next.
02:37 What's the best advice you've gotten from another actor?
02:40 I was going through a weird thing publicly.
02:43 I was complicating it.
02:44 I was whinging about it.
02:45 I was complaining about the circumstance.
02:47 A person I'm very, very close to, who's an older actor,
02:49 just looked at me and said, "It's just your turn, man."
02:53 And it was so simple.
02:54 - And it passes. - And it passes.
02:56 And he goes, "Next week, it's gonna be something else."
02:57 - And sure enough, next week it was. - Isn't it funny?
02:59 - It was. - It was.
03:00 What's a role you auditioned for that you wish you landed?
03:02 There's so many.
03:04 We could be here all day.
03:06 I wish that I was Baby June in Gypsy.
03:09 I still want to be Baby June on Broadway.
03:11 But basically anything you've seen with somebody my age,
03:16 yeah, I went out for that.
03:17 One time I had the job, like it was my job,
03:21 and there was a backdrop like this,
03:22 and I was doing a chemistry test for the guy.
03:25 And we were supposed to kiss,
03:27 and it was so bad that I freaked out
03:30 and touched the backdrop,
03:31 and it came falling down in the background.
03:34 And I lost the job.
03:36 They took it away.
03:37 What is the most absurd storyline in Riverdale?
03:42 We waterboarded someone with maple syrup.
03:45 That was pretty insane.
03:47 I think eventually the writers reached a point
03:50 where they were like,
03:51 "How are we going to jump the shark this episode?"
03:53 I wish everyone would have seen the table reads,
03:56 because all of us were laughing so hard in every table read.
03:59 But then you got to get on set,
04:00 and you got to take it super, super serious.
04:03 Who's the next Marvel character you'd like to play?
04:05 I'm already one of them.
04:06 Yeah, what about an ant?
04:08 I am Ant Girl. That's kind of the thing.
04:10 Can you like become an ant?
04:12 Yes.
04:15 You know, they asked me to play Ant Girl.
04:16 Yeah, they said you were busy, so.
04:19 I'm really happy that you passed, so I could do it.
04:22 I didn't pass.
04:23 I lost it to you.
04:27 You said you had a crush on Jennifer Aniston
04:29 when you were on Friends.
04:30 Which other co-stars did you have a crush on?
04:33 I dated a co-star for like three years.
04:35 Yeah, so you grew up, yeah.
04:36 Yeah.
04:37 I don't really, yeah, I don't really do that too often.
04:39 But Jenny, Jenny.
04:41 I call her Jenny.
04:42 I was truly, I was petrified.
04:45 Oh my God.
04:46 I was petrified ever.
04:47 I lost all my ability to say my lines.
04:48 That's so cool.
04:50 That's never happened to me.
04:51 Didn't feel cool to me at the time.
04:53 Felt horrifying.
04:56 What's the cringiest thing you've ever done for a crush?
05:00 Oh God.
05:01 Come on, you have to have a couple.
05:03 In high school, it was the girls ask guys dance.
05:07 You know, the winter formal is.
05:08 I was homeschooled.
05:09 Right, well, girls ask guys.
05:10 So I wrote my essay and I asked him to proofread it before class.
05:15 And he was like, what?
05:17 I was like, yeah, just read it, read it.
05:19 And I wrote like, the first sentence was,
05:21 will you go to formal with me?
05:22 I'm like going to be sick thinking about it.
05:25 And he was like, OK.
05:28 And then he called me that night and was like,
05:30 I can't go out with you because when I'm next to you,
05:33 you make me break out in hives.
05:34 [LAUGHTER]
05:37 It was probably a lie.
05:38 He was just trying to get out of it.
05:40 I love that.
05:40 Oh, man.
05:42 What is the most romantic thing you've ever done for someone?
05:45 I've been trying to get him to tell me this for days now
05:49 on this press tour, like trick him into talking about--
05:51 The most romantic thing I've ever done is just pay attention.
05:55 Oh, ladies.
05:58 Yeah.
06:00 Cole Sprouse.
06:02 What was the most surprising part of filming with Post Malone?
06:05 Oh, Posty.
06:06 You filmed with Post Malone?
06:08 Yeah.
06:08 What?
06:09 He DM'd me on Twitter and was like, I was on a plane
06:12 and I watched "Blockers" like seven times.
06:14 Yeah, my manager was like, I think
06:16 Post wants you to be in his music video.
06:18 And I was like, yes.
06:19 I was on Twitter.
06:20 He came out with this song called "Zack and Cody."
06:23 No.
06:24 It was "Zack and Cody."
06:25 And it was clearly a play off "Zack and Cody."
06:26 So I reached out to him on Twitter.
06:29 I love that song.
06:30 And I said, hey, dude, wouldn't it
06:31 be funny if we did a video where I was in all of your tattoos
06:35 and never got a message back?
06:37 That would've been a really good idea.
06:39 He's still one of my favorite artists ever.
06:41 I hope one day I'll say hi to him
06:42 and be like, I was in your video.
06:44 Do you remember?
06:44 And hopefully he remembers.
06:46 What's the last show you binge watched?
06:48 "The Bear."
06:49 "The Bear."
06:50 God, he's good.
06:51 The whole cast is good.
06:53 Yeah?
06:53 I love that show.
06:54 I just watched "Fargo," the last season with Juno Temple.
06:56 I haven't seen any of "Fargo."
06:58 The last season was so good.
06:59 Juno Temple was so funny.
07:01 You've worked with some pretty big names, like Vince Vaughn,
07:03 Leslie Mann, Paul Rudd, and Reese Witherspoon.
07:06 Which A-lister were you most nervous to work with?
07:08 Ooh, you probably.
07:10 I was definitely worried.
07:11 Don't ever forget it.
07:12 I was worried to work with you.
07:14 Probably was worried to work with you because I wanted you
07:16 to think I'm cool.
07:18 I don't know if they're going to think I'm cool.
07:20 No, you're really cool.
07:21 You know what?
07:22 They're adults.
07:24 I just wanted to be friends and be cool.
07:26 But you and I already were friends.
07:28 Doesn't matter.
07:29 You still wanted to be cool, friend.
07:31 I still wanted to be cool.
07:32 Which celebrity has been your favorite to photograph?
07:35 Which celebrity?
07:36 I mean--
07:38 Anybody in the room?
07:39 I think either you or Charles.
07:41 When you and I shot, it had such a direct lineage
07:44 to what we're doing now.
07:45 It did end up kind of influencing--
07:48 The Smodey a lot.
07:48 --the tone you and I personally took, outside of Diablo,
07:51 outside of Zelda, to what we did.
07:53 And then Charles, because I'd always
07:55 wanted to shoot Charles with a bunch of dogs.
07:58 You love dogs.
07:59 He loves dogs.
08:00 I love dogs.
08:01 You love dogs.
08:02 I just think it's fun.
08:04 Which celebs do you think have the best fashion?
08:06 I think Cole Sprouse has the best fashion.
08:08 I do actually really appreciate your fashion,
08:10 because I feel like you look like yourself,
08:11 which is very hard to do.
08:13 I do look like one other person.
08:16 You're--
08:16 Identical twin.
08:17 --a person in the world.
08:18 I really like Billie Eilish's fashion,
08:20 because I also think she always looks like herself.
08:22 I think that's what I am into, when
08:24 you don't feel like someone's just wearing an outfit.
08:26 You feel like it's just who they are.
08:29 Which Gen Z fashion trend do you love?
08:32 I don't know those.
08:33 What's a Gen Z fashion trend?
08:34 Maybe like--
08:35 Yeah, what's some Gen Z fashion trends?
08:36 I think you like Gen Z fashion trends.
08:38 I was going to say like a chain.
08:41 You love a chain.
08:42 I never-- when have you ever seen me in a chain?
08:46 He wears a chain.
08:47 I've seen it.
08:48 I saw it.
08:49 With the tank top look and the blazer and like a little chain.
08:52 Oh, a little chain.
08:53 Yeah, see?
08:55 A little chain.
08:56 Oh, of course.
08:56 We're moving on.
08:57 What's the best gift you've ever received from a co-star?
09:00 Nicole gave me a t-shirt that said, America's It Girl,
09:03 Katherine Newton.
09:05 And it's hilarious.
09:06 I've never worn it.
09:07 But I still--
09:08 You should.
09:09 It's still the best wrap gift I ever got.
09:11 Yeah, you kept calling me America's It Girl.
09:13 America's It Girl.
09:13 It was great.
09:14 I'll take it.
09:16 What was the best one you've ever gotten?
09:17 I mean, KJ gave me some really incredible records, actually.
09:21 That's nice.
09:21 Which was really sweet.
09:22 KJ's a great gift giver, actually.
09:25 All right, KJ.
09:26 OK.
09:27 I gave you a lot of things, but--
09:28 What's your go-to cry in the car song?
09:31 Why is that my question?
09:32 Because you're a little cry baby.
09:34 I don't cry in the car.
09:36 I cry in the movies a lot.
09:37 Oh, airplanes for me.
09:39 The airplane movies really get me.
09:41 I think the hardest I've ever cried on a plane
09:43 was two glasses of red wine and about 45 minutes
09:48 into Coco, the movie.
09:50 I think that's relatable.
09:52 I watched Top Gun over somebody's shoulder.
09:55 And that made me cry.
09:55 I love doing that on planes.
09:57 I'm just really interested in what
09:58 other people are watching.
09:59 I had a guy catch me once, and he turned the subtitles on.
10:01 He was very sweet.
10:04 Oh, that was it.
10:05 That was it.
10:06 This was Elle's Ask Us Anything.
10:08 Catch Lisa Frankenstein in theaters.
