Every 14th of February, the women's rights group One Billion Rising stages dance protests to call for an end to gender-based violence and show global solidarity for women and girls.

00:17 This year in Rome, 20 dancers and 50 students from the Dante Alighieri High School staged
00:22 a flash mob on the Spanish steps.
00:25 The organization is the brainchild of Yves Ensler, author of the Vagina Monologues.
00:30 It holds events in 190 countries, with often hundreds dancing together to the notes of
00:37 its anthem, "Break the Chain."
00:41 The organization invites one billion women to dance and connect around the world to demand
00:45 an end to the violence and show collective global solidarity.
00:50 An estimated 35% of women have suffered violence at some point in their lives.
00:55 In some countries, the number is as high as 70%.
