00:00 But it does give us a time to pause, reset, and look at where the landscape of the NBA
00:08 stands, including in the MVP race.
00:11 Now, the Philadelphia 76ers on a slide without the reigning MVP, Joel Embiid, who now has
00:18 missed 20 games this season for Philadelphia, officially disqualifying him from any postseason
00:26 awards or honors.
00:28 That would be all NBA teams, and of course in the MVP race as well.
00:33 You can only miss 17 games.
00:34 They hit that 65-game minimum out of the 82 in a regular season to qualify for MVP consideration.
00:42 And it's kind of a shame, Donnie.
00:43 He's going to miss more even after the All-Star break with that left knee injury as well,
00:49 because the numbers and the efficiency that JoJo was putting up this season for Philadelphia,
00:55 unlike anything we really have ever seen in the history of the NBA.
00:59 Yeah, and by the way, some of that silver lining we talk about, now nobody ever wants
01:04 to see an MVP get injured, but if there is something that you can point to towards the
01:08 playoffs is Joel Embiid can rehab that knee for the rest of the next two to three months
01:13 here before the playoffs begin, if the Sixers make it in.
01:16 Maybe he's rested and ready.
01:18 Now granted, to be a big man, you know, 7-foot tall, 270, 280 pounds, it does take you some
01:23 time to get back on the court and get those crazy skills that Joel Embiid has right back
01:28 into the fold.
01:29 Now that could be a downside, but how many times, Ben, in the past couple years have
01:32 we seen the Philadelphia 76ers try to make a playoff run and be like, "Oh, Joel Embiid's
01:36 face is smashed.
01:37 His knee hurts.
01:38 He's sick tonight.
01:39 You know, tendonitis."
01:40 We've seen it all pop up on him.
01:42 Maybe this is the one year where now that he knows he can't win the MVP, he's not going
01:46 to rush back.
01:47 The Sixers will take their time and he will be better off for it once the playoffs begin,
01:51 because the one thing that we do know is here, the past couple years haven't worked out in
01:54 the Sixers' favor, because why?
01:56 Joel Embiid hasn't really been 100% for any one of these playoff runs.
02:00 There's a chance that he possibly could be 100% for this playoff run, and I'm willing
02:05 to let it stand here.
02:06 You just need to pile a couple victories up.
02:08 The one they led away last night, you're supposed to beat the Miami Heat in that spot here.
02:12 Hopefully that doesn't come back to bite them, but from my point of view, it actually might
02:15 be a good thing that Joel Embiid can't win the MVP, because he's not going to rush back
02:19 then.
