00:00 We are back here at Riviera Country Club where Tiger Woods just wrapped up his first round at
00:04 the Genesis Invitational. A bit of an up and down day for Tiger Woods today Bob. Who finished 1 over
00:09 72 Bob. Yeah I don't think we should really be that surprised. I mean he's playing against some
00:14 of the best players on the PGA Tour signature event and he has not been playing. You know he
00:20 hasn't played since mid-December at the Hero World Challenge. That was really his first competitive
00:25 golf since the Masters. This is his first official golf since the Masters and it's a not an easy golf
00:30 course. He struggled on the greens and I think the score that the score is actually pretty good.
00:36 One over par. It's just that there's so many other scores under par. It's a beautiful day,
00:40 good scoring and you know he's got some work to do on Friday. Now he mentioned in his press
00:44 conference that he's lacking sharpness and his ability to make adjustments on the fly. Where do
00:49 you think his confidence level is at right now? Yeah I mean he's used to this but there's just
00:53 no way to replicate at home competitive rounds and he can't he just can't approximate what it's
01:02 like to play golf inside the ropes with fans and adrenaline and competing against the best players
01:07 in the world. He can practice and he can work on his game but those things don't you know he needs
01:12 the reps and that's where he is so lacking at this stage of his career. He's not able to play as much
01:18 as everybody else and so when he comes out here he's already at a disadvantage and yet he's still
01:23 got amazing skills. He's hitting the ball great off the tee a lot of really good iron shots.
01:28 The short game is the part that's going to always be the iffy one because you just
01:32 you can't replicate the nerves that are necessary to be practicing with and at home and and we saw
01:39 a little bit of that today. He struggled on the greens and he didn't he was 0 for 4 out of the
01:44 sand. I mean that's that's a strong point of his usually he'll probably get better he needs to work
01:48 on it each day. You've covered Tiger Woods for a really long time and everybody's talking about
01:53 if you open your social media the shank on 18. That's pretty uncharacteristic of him. I mean
01:58 you know every pro has that happen to them once in a while it's just part of it and it's
02:02 it's embarrassing and as he even said the the the old the old mantra is the hardest shot in golf is
02:09 the next one after a shank. He had to hit a pretty tough shot after that and hit a really good one
02:14 but he said himself he couldn't remember hitting one from that distance. It happens sometimes with
02:20 chip shots or flop shots but not a long shot like that. He was 176 yards out after a perfect drive.
02:26 He just hit a great drive on 17 a great iron shot to the green and then he does that and he sort of
02:31 came out of nowhere. He he blamed it on some back spasms that he said he was having that's a little
02:36 just disconcerting to hear him say that but I guess we should probably not be surprised. He
02:42 doesn't always tell us when he's going through those things and the fact that he admitted that is
02:45 is just another thing that he has to overcome. Yeah round two is tomorrow. What adjustments does
02:51 he need to make to make the cut? Yeah I mean he's um he's got to be within the top 50 in ties
02:57 or within 10 of the lead. I would have thought that that task would be easier. He's put himself
03:01 in a bit of a hole there probably needs to shoot under par. Take care of the par fives. Don't be
03:06 quite as sloppy. You know he had he had six bogeys today. If he cuts that in half he's fine.
