00:00 Garrington's property services has compiled data from around 18 categories
00:04 including air quality, crime figures, schools and proximity to open spaces.
00:09 Out of 1,429 locations in the UK, Broseley came 116th, making it the best place to
00:16 live in Shropshire. It came 118th for well-being, 178th for natural environment
00:21 and 358th for heritage and culture. The average family home here in Broseley
00:27 costs around £400,000. That's close to £100,000 more than down the road in
00:32 Telford which ranks 359th in the country. Shrewsbury ranked 797th while Ludlow,
00:40 which was fairly recently named one of the prettiest places in the UK, was
00:44 ranked 260th. So recently data suggested that Broseley is one of the best
00:49 places to live in Shropshire, in fact the best place to live in Shropshire.
00:53 How do you feel about that? Yeah I agree, it is lovely, it's very quiet, peaceful,
01:00 not much trouble, I like it. It was ranked quite highly in like access to
01:05 outdoor spaces, is that something you kind of appreciate about whereabouts
01:09 we are in Shropshire? Yeah, there's not much building, new builds and that kind
01:15 of stuff going on so it is somewhere that you could just walk in any direction
01:18 and just get lost in the fields, yeah it's great. It was also ranked pretty
01:23 highly in sort of like history and culture and stuff, kind of being so close
01:27 to the Ironbridge Gorge I guess is a bit of a perk, do you appreciate that kind of?
01:30 Never really thought about it to be honest but yeah just by looking at the
01:33 buildings around us there's a lot of history just in this high street alone
01:36 so yeah I do agree with that, it's nice. How long have you lived in the area? All
01:40 my life, yeah 27-28 years. Nice place to grow up in? Definitely, yeah definitely.
01:47 So you've seen the news, Broseley is the best? I haven't yet, actually I haven't seen it which is a
01:52 shame but a couple of customers have been in to say that there is an article
01:55 saying it's the best, I would agree with it, I mean Broseley is a lovely town, I've
01:58 been working in the town, born here, working in the shop here for 37 years,
02:02 we've lost some shops in the high street but I still think it's a very good little
02:06 high street, lots of services, you could do all your shopping in Broseley without
02:11 having to go elsewhere which I think is very good and not all towns can provide
02:14 that now sadly so yeah good, very happy with it. One of the interesting
02:18 things I saw was that it ranked really quite highly in well-being and so I
02:23 guess people's mental health, why do you think that might be? Broseley is a very
02:26 friendly town so if you're a stranger walking up and down the street chances are
02:29 somebody that lives in town would say hello to you and you'd feel quite welcome,
02:32 it's quite a small town so when we look after each other we have our
02:37 little problems but I think we also know you know how to look after each other in
02:42 the town you know and I think the Covid brought us back together again you know
02:45 but I think you know like again people have drifted apart a little bit from Covid
02:48 but I think Broseley is small enough to still be a caring community, it's a good
02:52 looking community, lots of community things going on as well you know we've
02:55 got good societies, groups in the town that give people places to go so it is
02:59 it's a nice town. Where have you come from? Fernbridge North.
03:04 What brought you to Broseley? Well my family, mum and dad, my husband's mum and dad
03:11 passed away and we just just decided to move here and I tell you what it's
03:16 lovely, lovely place, so friendly. I mean I lost my husband last year and you
03:23 know people have been so kind yeah oh god I thoroughly recommend it. What is it
03:30 you kind of like about besides the people being super friendly? They're
03:32 friendly and you know if you want anything doing you know, have you got any good side?
03:39 Yeah so yeah. One of the things it got rated quite highly for was access to
03:45 green spaces, is that something you appreciate? Yeah there's a lot of lovely walks, it's really nice.
03:51 So there's been new data out that's ranked a load of towns in England and
03:57 in Shropshire Broseley's taken the crown. Do you live in Broseley?
04:03 Yes I do yeah, I've been here about five six years now. What do you think of it?
04:07 Yeah well I love the area really, it's just right close to our own bridge, all the
04:12 walks and the rivers and that so yeah that's all good for me. Where did you come from?
04:17 Basingstoke originally, moved to Bournemouth for a little bit,
04:21 Shrewsbury for about half a year, then met the lady I'm with now,
04:25 fiancée, so moved to Broseley and it's happy ever after. Yeah she's a Broseley lady then?
04:30 Yes she is, well no because they all get a bit sensitive don't they from what kind of
04:34 area, but for me it's one of the surrounding areas so Broseley is.
04:39 What is it kind of your favourite parts about Broseley, what you enjoy
04:44 doing here? Just walking down to the river, down to the iron bridge part of it,
04:48 where you've got the little hub of shops and your butchers and your grocers
04:52 and your stuff like that and just all the walks around there really.
04:55 You appreciate the outdoors? Yeah massively, 100% we're always out in the evenings or in the
04:59 mornings walking and stuff like that. A lot of people we've spoken to today have
05:03 said how friendly the town is, is that something you've seen kind of reflected?
05:06 Yeah that's what I've found since I moved up here, obviously speaking how I speak
05:10 isn't the usual, the local twang, but yeah they're all good as gold so yeah good people.
