00:27 once again welcome guys welcome to the HBL PSL season 9 so fantastic to have
00:33 you here Islamabad United in case you guys have just tuned in has won the toss
00:38 and they have decided to bowl first looking forward to it Sanam. Absolutely I
00:43 think it was an electrifying opening ceremony hats off to everyone who
00:47 contributed I think it was brilliant with the performances and the backdrops
00:51 everything was on spot and hopefully the cricket will be on spot too. Korki great
00:56 to have you back once again I think Pakistan is pretty much your second
01:00 home now. Yeah it's great to be back I think there's a lot of anticipation
01:04 about this year's HBL PSL 9 because of the players that are here obviously the
01:09 Calandres are back-to-back winners they're looking to go three and three
01:13 and like you say it's an electric atmosphere it was a great opening show
01:17 and I just can't wait to see this get going this tournament there's so many
01:21 games and so many great matchups looking forward to every single one. It's so hard
01:25 to pick a team that is looking strong in the HBL PSL because so many times our
01:30 predictions go often wrong you know you think that a team is looking good on
01:33 paper but they're not able to execute their skills on the ground Sana so any
01:38 any particular team that you're looking out for Calandres obviously is the
01:41 defending champions. I think you cannot write off Calandres and Multan Sultans
01:46 both of these teams have played excellent cricket in the last three to
01:49 four years so these two teams definitely at the top the third team would be
01:54 Islamabad United I think the key element for them would be the form of Shadab
01:58 Khan the captain because it's it's a format where the confidence of the
02:03 captain definitely trickles down to the team so his performances his form is
02:07 going to be crucial but Islamabad United looks really solid on paper. And
02:12 remember earlier we had the toss and Islamabad United won the toss and they
02:17 decided to bowl first which is an extremely interesting decision
02:21 considering the stats that we've got from this particular ground Lahore
02:26 Calandres will be batting first and they've got a strong bowling lineup
02:30 Islamabad United also very top-heavy let's talk about the teams now let's
02:34 talk about Lahore Calandres first Corky I mean again a team that relies on their
02:39 bowling a lot. Yeah they do and they've done it well over a number of years you
02:44 look at the stats there the way that they took take early wickets with the
02:46 three men but to me the Calandres what they've got right is getting runs on the
02:50 board and I think that's really important they're happy to have a bat
02:53 first stats tell you that batting first here and setting totals you know the
02:58 average throughout the whole of the PSL's been 177 last year I think it was
03:03 eight nine games 187 so it's slightly gone up but a lot a lot for me is on
03:08 that man on the right the captain I spoke to him a little bit earlier with
03:11 Shahin Shahafridi he's happy he feels good and he can't wait to go but they're
03:16 up against the team and Islamabad who I think have changed they brought in a
03:20 new coach and there's a lot of debutants. Islamabad United and Shahdaab Khan he is
03:25 their captain he was playing the ILC 20 as well his form son you spoke about how
03:31 crucial that's going to be but just just look at the top order son. Absolutely
03:36 their top heavy with Alex Hale's there Colin Munro, Azam Khan they've got so
03:42 many debutants two Shah brothers Naseem Shah you'll see him in action you'll see
03:47 Obeid Shah in action big pick for them Imad Wasim he'll be very very important
03:52 throughout the tournament but especially in the Lahore leg because spinners
03:56 generally favor the Lahore ground and like you said 26 matches have been won
04:02 by teams batting first out of the 40 games so that's that's an interesting
04:06 decision from Islamabad United to bowl first. Zainab there's a lot said about
04:10 stats and we obviously hammered by Mazhar who's brilliant a statistician
04:15 who tells you everything about what's going to go on and I think sometimes you
04:20 can actually think about it too much as a side I think you can go into a toss
04:24 thinking as a captain well we have to bat first if we don't bat first stats
04:28 tell you we don't we're not going to win the game and sometimes that can cloud
04:31 you as a player as a captain and speaking to Shahin Shah Afridi a little
04:35 bit earlier I talked to him I said how you feeling because there's a lot of
04:38 people talking about he's dropped his pace a little bit and he's not getting
04:41 as many wickets and I think stop talking about it I'm sick of hearing
04:45 commentators talking about Shahin Shah Afridi and his pace he's an excellent
04:48 bowler he's a good leader he's talking about this new delivery he's trying to
04:52 get where he's I'm not going to tell you what it is but he told me in confidence
04:56 he's trying to get a new a new delivery which hopefully he's going to show
04:59 tonight and I'll talk about it on commentary but it's great to talk to
05:02 somebody who I think has got better and better he's going to be a main
05:09 I think part of their team of how they win but don't ever underestimate the
05:13 Calandres they've come back to back but Islamabad look strong this should be a
05:17 great opening game yeah can't underestimate any team in the HBL PSL
05:21 Islamabad United though is a team that has heavily relied on statistics
05:25 remember the hashtag has always been the mark say which is why they've got a new
05:30 coach on board Mike Hessen let's hear his thoughts now he earlier caught up
05:34 with Aaron Holland well Islamabad United have a brand new blockbuster coach at
05:39 the helm for them and it's Mike Hessen the experienced a man who's you know
05:43 you've performed all around the world and now you get to grab Islamabad United
05:47 what are you looking forward to most in this new coaching role?
05:51 I'm looking forward to enjoying the PSL. I think it's pretty exciting. We've got a really talented squad and we've trained well over the last week or so.
05:59 Today's just a chance to have a bit of fun and hopefully put on a show.
06:02 Let's talk about the squad that you've assembled as well I know you're big on
06:06 analysis you're a mad statistician. I know your owner was very drawn to that when
06:10 choosing you as particular coach. Did I see three looking Nassim Shahs walking
06:14 around before? Yeah we've got three brothers obviously Nassim, Ubied is the
06:18 young one and Henain is the middle one so yeah when we got the three at the
06:22 draft there were a few eye-openers but I think over the course the the PSL
06:27 they'll just see how good they are. So exciting the prospect of the three boys
06:30 featuring for Islamabad United this year. Can we take another little look at your
06:34 roster as well the likes of Coloman Roy, Alex Helds we know that you guys are
06:38 known for your power hitting. What kind of branded cricket can we expect from you
06:42 guys in this edition of the tournament? Well pretty similar but hopefully some
06:45 street smarts as well and I think the likes of Emad Wazim in the middle bring
06:50 some experience. Haider Ali as well as although he's young he's a clever
06:53 player and I think you'll bring plenty of power through the middle so you
06:56 combine that with the likes of Fahim and Shutup you know Jordan Cox has got some
07:00 experience through the middle so yeah exciting.

07:23 is all about fast bowlers and then three brothers in one team it will be for the

07:32 can tell you they will fight hard between themselves I cannot wait to see
07:36 Obeid there's a lot being said about him he's got pace. Yeah he definitely does
07:40 have pace we've seen that in the under 19 World Cup as well the way he
07:44 performed and took those wickets so there's so much to look forward to in
07:48 this first game of the HBL PSL remember Islamabad United won the toss and they
