00:00 I feel great.
00:03 Yeah.
00:05 So I started on the West End in a musical called Ghost the Musical.
00:12 And even prior to that, my education, I studied at the British Academy of Dramatic Arts with
00:18 the Oxford campus.
00:19 And we would come in on the weekends and see plays.
00:23 Actually I saw what changed my life, War Horse at the National Theater.
00:29 That was around the time that I was here.
00:30 And I thought it was so amazing, so much so, that was my summer of my first year of school.
00:39 I called the school and I said, "I'm not coming back.
00:43 I want to stay here.
00:44 I want to learn theater here."
00:46 And I didn't know Shakespeare, and so that's why I wanted to go to that program.
00:50 So you guys taught me the classics, and I'm obsessed with Pinter and all that stuff.
00:56 And so it's unbelievable, because at that time, the only thing that I thought maybe
01:02 if I could possibly get nominated for would be at Olivier.
01:05 So to imagine it be this is very moving.
01:09 Thank you so much for asking.
01:11 I think at the end of the day, you have to know who you are and know what you want and
01:16 what you stand up for.
01:18 And when choosing the roles, make sure that there are things that you feel connected to
01:22 and believe in and that you're working with other creatives that also believe and support
01:26 the same thing as you.
01:29 And then ultimately, at the end of the day, we just want to tell stories, right?
01:33 Beyond race, it's important that we just want to tell stories.
01:36 So I really believe as much as we try hard, there are some times where those moments don't
01:42 pan out the way that you do.
01:44 But I would say consistency is key.
01:47 Again, knowing who you are and what you want, because if you know what you want, this doesn't
01:51 even matter.
01:53 It's almost as if it's a mission statement or a form of activism.
01:56 The idea of me even being on a screen and something, what all of these things represent
02:01 when you see me matters a lot.
02:04 So that in and of itself is the win.
02:07 And then I think you don't do things about anything else than again, what you believe
02:14 in.
02:15 So it really is acting as a way of communicating, connecting with people for healing, for understanding.
02:24 And so if you stay consistent, even if you never get this moment, the right people will
02:30 know and the right people connect with you and you just stand strong and continue to
02:34 create great work.
02:36 Thank you.
02:37 Thank you.
02:38 We have time for just one last question.
02:42 These are so delicate.
02:45 It's really on there, huh?
02:47 Okay, I'm sorry.
02:49 I know you guys got it in like January.
02:53 That's absurd.
02:56 Listen, I think the industry is changing.
03:01 As in all things in life, things adapt, they improve, they change.
03:06 The biggest thing is make sure the stuff's getting seen.
03:08 Whether it's on streaming, whether it's in the theater, that's great.
03:11 But the reality is things are moving.
03:14 So the only thing I can ask for is that I continue to pick great pieces, that it gets
03:19 seen by people.
03:20 Some of the best movies I've ever seen has been while I'm on a plane and I'm scrolling
03:25 through and I didn't even see something and I moved to tears.
03:29 So the biggest thing I can ask for is that the stuff just gets seen.
03:33 I don't get too much into the minutia of it.
03:35 But yes, I get it and it's difficult, especially when you have independent movies trying to
03:41 break through or trying to get those box office numbers.
03:43 It can be challenging.
03:44 But I think it's really crucial to just really do great high quality work.
03:49 What's the last great movie you saw?
03:55 Oh, I watched, I don't know what it's called.
03:58 So there's that.
03:59 It's with Stanley Tucci.
04:00 It's an old movie.
04:02 I think it's Stanley Tucci, John Turturro and they're in a restaurant and they haveā¦
04:07 Big Night.
04:08 Big Night.
04:09 And it's with Tony Shalhoub.
04:10 I love them.
04:11 I would love to work with them.
04:14 Yeah.
04:15 The final shot with the omelet.
04:16 Unreal, right?
04:17 Unreal.
04:18 Dave Vine, thank you so much for joining us.
04:20 Thank you so much.
04:21 Thank you.
04:22 Thank you.
04:23 Have a great rest of your night.
04:24 Thank you.
04:25 Thanks for coming.
