00:00 So about 9.30pm, NSW Police along with NSW Fire and Rescue and the Rural Fire Service
00:07 responded to a fire on Monument Hill. Initial reports suggested that there was a car fire,
00:14 however on attendance it was found that there actually was no car on fire, it was a bush
00:19 fire. So the RFS and NSW Fire and Rescue then extinguished the fire, burned out approximately
00:25 1 square kilometre of bushland. There was no need to evacuate any of the residents up
00:31 there, at this stage there was no damage to property in that location, however the fire
00:37 itself is of concern. Detectives and crime scene have attended and they've determined
00:42 that the fire is suspicious and that investigation is continuing with canvassing and the like
00:49 taking place up around Monument Hill. So again we do ask any members of the public that may
00:54 have been in that area on Saturday night around 9.30pm, any dash cam or any information at
01:00 all, vehicles or people of potentially suspicious nature that they can call, or the police station
01:06 or crime stoppers for that information.
01:09 What factors have led investigators to conclude the cause of the fire is suspicious?
01:13 Well I can't comment too much on an ongoing investigation, but at this stage our crime
01:18 scene officers along with the fire investigator from the Rural Fire Service have conducted
01:24 those inquiries and they've deemed it to be a suspicious fire.
01:27 Has anybody been questioned in relation to this?
01:31 Not at this stage.
01:32 Is there any specific streets or people that rent a specific area that should be I guess
01:39 considering if they saw something and getting in touch, like if there are any streets where
01:42 CCTV might be particularly helpful?
01:44 Or any of those surrounding streets, you know close in proximity to the top of Monument
01:48 Hill, that people can either walk up and down, the stairs that go up and any streets, lanes
01:54 that go in and around that area would be appreciated.
