00:00 Hand in hand for a long walk, Alice Springs politician Josh Burgoyne revealing he's been
00:08 charged over a car crash six months ago.
00:11 For the first time today, I have now been charged with careless driving, causing serious
00:18 harm under the Traffic Act.
00:20 NT Police will allege Mr Burgoyne failed to give way to a car in Alice Springs on August
00:27 26.
00:28 That incident, as I understand it, involved a two vehicle collision at the intersection
00:32 of Stuart Highway and Norrisville Avenue, where the vehicle travelling outbound failed
00:37 to give way.
00:39 Two people involved in that crash did suffer injuries.
00:42 And it's important that as the matter is before the courts, I don't speak further on the events
00:47 of the accident.
00:48 Mr Burgoyne's wife with him and 38 weeks pregnant on the night of the crash.
00:54 If convicted, the shadow minister faces possible fines up to $7,000 or a maximum of 18 months
01:01 in prison.
01:02 WorkSafe NT also investigating the crash as the other car was carrying health care workers
01:08 returning from a remote community.
01:10 In a statement, WorkSafe said two health care workers were injured in the incident and were
01:16 treated in Alice Springs Hospital and that the occupant and actions of the other vehicle
01:22 is currently not the focus of NT WorkSafe's inquiry.
01:27 The charge comes just days after Labor's Attorney General was scrutinised over his ownership
01:33 of questionable shares.
01:35 The government's now returned fire on the opposition leader, Leah Finocchiaro.
01:40 I would like Leah to come out, show some integrity, show some leadership that she preaches and
01:44 front Territorians to answer the tough questions.
01:47 Josh Burgoyne says he won't comment any further about the incident now that it's before the
01:51 courts.
01:52 The case is scheduled to be heard here in Alice Springs in March.
