00:00 Actually, in the school break, we didn't have any problem.
00:03 It didn't decrease.
00:05 What we did was we adjusted the current school calendar.
00:08 So we will now be ending by May 31.
00:12 That's our last day of the school calendar for this school year.
00:16 After that, the school break will start from June 1.
00:20 Up to?
00:21 Until June 28, actually.
00:23 Because our first day of classes...
00:25 July 28, sorry.
00:27 Because our first day of classes would be July 29, 2024.
00:32 This is for the next school year.
00:34 So what we did was,
00:37 at first, we were thinking about how we can speed up the shift.
00:41 But our learners' school days will be compromised.
00:45 And it will be hard for our teachers to teach all the competencies.
00:48 So as you can see,
00:49 the shift of our school calendar will be gradual.
00:54 Back to the usual April-May break.
00:57 So now, what we did was,
00:59 we will end by May 31,
01:02 but we will still start around July 29.
01:04 And then slowly, we will move it back until we go back to the normal April-May break.
01:11 So the school days were reduced?
01:13 For now, the number of days reduced in our school days is not that much.
01:17 If I'm not mistaken, the number of days reduced for this school year is only around 7-8 days.
01:21 We cannot reduce it immediately
01:24 because not all students will be able to learn all the learning competencies that they need.
01:30 That's why the shift will be gradual.
01:33 Sir, if we see the dates, it seems like the number of days reduced is big
01:37 because you moved back for a month.
01:39 -It's like that? -Yes.
01:40 -It's only 7 days. -It's like that.
01:41 But actually, when we counted,
01:43 we still have 179 school days this year.
01:47 So it's not that bad to lose.
01:50 Sir, if it's a fake implementation,
01:52 by what school year will you be able to move back?
01:55 Well, what we're looking at is around 2026-2027.
02:00 It's April, the last day of class.
02:02 Early April, April 2.
02:04 So we're already there.
02:05 But if you want to go to March, I think it will be more school year 2027-2028.
02:10 But of course, as you know,
02:12 we look at the adjustments that we can make with the school calendar every year.
02:15 We're looking at it.
02:16 But for now, in our projection,
02:18 we will end school year 2026-2027
02:21 in the first few days of April.
02:24 So we're already there in the April-May break.
02:26 But finally, why did the DepEd decide--
02:31 -Before, they always say that you're just a consultation. -Yes.
02:33 But now, you have a DO.
02:35 What was the turning point to decide?
02:37 That's what our fellow Filipinos really want.
02:40 As you know, there's a survey that came out recently
02:44 showing that really a majority of Filipinos want to go back to April-May.
02:47 When we got that survey,
02:49 we also thought that we should really have consultations
02:53 with the relevant national organizations,
02:55 our stakeholders,
02:57 including our teachers' unions,
03:00 our student organizations.
03:03 After that, we also went to the field.
03:05 We really had a consultation in the field.
03:08 And they're all--
03:10 Generally, everyone wants to go back to April-May.
03:14 We also have a study from the PNU that says the same thing.
03:18 So, because this is what people really want,
03:21 we decided that we should go back.
03:23 But we have to do it gradually
03:25 so that it won't affect us.
03:26 Because we're really in a learning recovery mode right now.
03:29 Thank you.
