00:00 A Japanese shipping line helped the Magsaysay Group of Companies
00:05 to secure the work of the Filipino seafarers.
00:08 This is what Sujin Kim reported.
00:10 A Japanese shipping line joined forces with the Magsaysay Group of Companies
00:17 to support a study for the Filipino seafarers.
00:22 Many decades ago, both Magsaysay and MOL had a vision
00:28 to invest in the development of Filipinos as world-class seafarers and maritime professionals.
00:36 Seafarers' job is still quite a tough job.
00:41 We feel that there's some difficulty to gather the really ambitious and capable person to come to our industry.
00:53 Graduates of MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy are guaranteed to get a ship after they graduate from college.
01:01 Half of them will be admitted to Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd.
01:05 Today, almost 100 students are graduating from Marine Engineering and Marine Transportation
01:12 here at MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy.
01:15 They are the first batch of graduates to be admitted to the school.
01:18 The president of the Japanese shipping line, Takeshi Hashimoto,
01:22 said that it is important for them to play the role of the Filipinos,
01:27 especially in their country, Japan, where there is a shortage of seafarers.
01:32 As a Japanese shipping company, we are suffering.
01:35 In Japan, the younger population is quite rapidly declining.
01:40 The Philippine seafarers are quite important to the human resource.
01:47 Even though the journey of the seafarers is not easy,
01:51 the Filipinos are able to face it and they are known for their perseverance.
01:57 Lovely Joy is the only one among six female graduates in her batch with more than 200 students.
02:04 Her determination to study hard will be the end of her career as a cum laude.
02:09 She also included the difficulties she faced during the COVID pandemic and the eruption of the Mayon volcano.
02:15 I was encouraged that this academy has its sure employment
02:21 considering that we have a lot of maritime schools in the Philippines.
02:26 Considering the many things we have experienced,
02:29 at that time we also encountered volcanic eruption from Taal volcano and then we had the pandemic.
02:38 Considering all of those, it is humbling.
02:41 The tuition fee for the academy is around Php 160,000 per semester.
02:47 At present, more than 6,000 cadets are placed in the ships that are sailing and are well-owned and operated.
02:55 Soojin Kim for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
